Artist John Olsen and the 'Children of the Brush': Part 1 | Australian Story
John Olsen is one of Australia’s most successful and acclaimed painters. At 93, John still heads into his studio every day to paint.
But while John became the "darling" of the art world, and each award celebrated his genius, his "obsession" with work also often cast a long shadow on his family.
Daughter Louise Olsen would move into the design world and co-found an iconic company and son Tim Olsen would find his place in the art world as a dealer and gallery owner. But Tim’s complex relationship with his father fuelled an addiction to alcohol that would almost bring his life and work undone.
Children of the Brush is the first of a two-part story offering an inside look at one of Australia’s great art dynasties and the complex cost of fame.

Sad the collateral damage to his children. It doesn't mean his art was worse but the shadow remains on damaged lives.

I thought the same thing at first - but seeing more of his work (in the film only, unfortunately) I am revising my opinion. Hope we get the 2nd part to this docu. Also think that this shows how driven you have to be to succeed and perhaps more importantly how self-belief is everything!

He's a genius as well? Probably should have been a scientist then.
A dog can only be a dog if he doesn't have to do the dishes, the cooking or pay for the paint.
John Olsen art is terribly boring, so generic in 20s century art movements. He even acts and dresses like ,,real artist,, But Australia needs some art heroes to built national identity. And his kids are embarrassing. No talent as well.
