Artist Interview: KG Subramanyan | Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2014

KG Subramanyan, b. 1924 in Kerala.
Lives and works in Baroda, India.
KG Subramanyan studied at Santiniketan with artists like Nandalal Bose, Ramkinkar Baij, and Benode Bihari Mukherjee. He has also been a teacher at Visva Bharati and at MS University, Baroda.
KGS's work has been exhibited at art fora across the world, including the Sao Paulo Biennale, 1961 & 1971; the Tokyo Biennale, 1964; and the Menton Biennale, France, 1976. He has written extensively on Indian art and is the author of Moving Focus, The Living Tradition and The Creative Circuit.
In this video, KGS speaks about the thought and style of 'War of the Relics', his painting exhibited at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2014. The painting also expresses the anxiety of the artist about the strengthening intolerance in today's India, and how this is inhibiting the development of serious thought and art.
