Artist Feature: Alanna Baird

Enjoy the delicate artistry of Alanna Baird that celebrates the beauty and complexity found in nature!
“I am inspired by the intertidal zone of my shoreline. There I find gifts exposed by the receding water, the tiny creatures, who inhabit this shared littoral landscape, offer up their remains,” said Alanna.
Harvested directly from the ocean, Alanna works with seaweed to draw the stem structure and create 3D shapes. She’s using clear filament and tape to doodle the shape. When she completes the work, Alanna takes it back to the sea.
Alanna recommends clearing your 3D pen of material as soon as you stop. She also suggests having an Exacto knife and scissors nearby. She recommends keeping plastic in a clear, dry place to keep moisture away. Clear packing tape works well to create patterns from traced objects, while masking tape and foil covered twist ties help secure more complex structures until you finish them with the plastic.
