Artist books made with baby board books and gelli prints inspired by

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

#gelliplate #collage #abstractart
These books are a little more intricate to create than you might think.
This is inspired by ‪@DrewSteinbrecher‬ who is the artist i associate with this style of art. I particularly like his graphic bold shapes
You need a board book, glue, thin papers, scissors and sand paper. Also a craft knife and cutting mat if you have one.
The board book I use in the video has flaps which can be used as pockets or tuck spots.
I hope you enjoy.

Covering board books is very satisfying, isn't it? Your book there with the extra flaps is giving me ideas for inserting some into the board books I have.

You know me apple, why just do a board book when you can do one with flaps 🙄😂. I’ve got 2 boxes filled. Some of them have other interesting additions. Not sure how usable they’ll be…but I need to give it a try.

I agree with you that making them is the most fun. I don’t journal myself, but I love creating the books, and I give them away as soon as I can.and on to the next!

Hi Sue, I think there’s those that make and those that use. I think the book itself is like a painting. About 5 years ago I was in Aberdeen as a tourist. There was an artist book display in one of the university buildings which I went in to look at. This was before I knew such a thing existed. I would soooo love to attend it again and really look at, and enjoy, it properly.

Great idea! Those books are the best base for such pretty print and so coordinate collages ❤

Thanks myriam. It’s my first time doing them, I don’t know what took me so long. They’re robust to work with. I think the edging is a bit more intricate but they make the prints look very smooth. ❤️

Hi Gretta, thank you so much!! I’m not sure what to do with them, but they’re a lovely way to use some gel prints to look back on for ideas.

Lovely project! Definitely added to my list, as I am overloaded with prints. I’ll be checking out the thrift shop for the books.

Thanks Lydia. They should have loads of them cheap. I always end up with loads when I buy a big batch of second hand books to sell.

I love yours too Christy. You only do 1 a week don’t you? They’re very time consuming to make (and at least 5 times as long to edit 🙄😖).

@@quirkyqueens I have been doing one each week. How do you edit your videos which is different than mine? I’d love to hear if there is a way which is less time consuming. Yours are always great.

@christyhartman I use a software app called splice. I pay £14 a month for it, but it only works on the phone. It’s what I’m used to so I can’t rate it against others. It has good transitions I think to make video smoother. It has a lot of features I don’t know how to use…and don’t want to!!!!

I once heard to lightly sand a board book so the glue would stick. But you don’t seem to be having a problem.

I think my glue stick is pretty good. Plus I was quite generous with it (most unlike me 😂). Glues probably improved since then. Plus I stuck to thin paper, thickest was printer paper 80 gsm.

Loved following your video and making my little book. I have a question though...I use acrylic paint and my pages stick together, what if anything do you use to keep the pages from sticking (maybe some sort of sealer?) I've tried matte medium, alene's matt fixative, any thing else might work? Thanks ahead of time. Sandy

Hi Sandy, I find some acrylic paints a bit sticky too when they’re dry. I find after a few days the stickiness dries out (like it cures) but it needs to be left open to do that. I find standing the board book up with the pages left open for a few days will solve the problem (hopefully). I find my acrylic paints behave better some days than others. I wonder if temperature plays a part 🤔🤓 I’m really glad you liked the video!!!😁
