@@Asherbird25 OP can tell me if I’m wrong, but this “Double Turing Test” would mean that neither you or the other, _real_ person know who the AI is, so you both have to figure out who is real and who isn’t. This would lead to both people having to act as human as possible. Then, I think, the AI would be programmed to behave like a person and send messages without prompting. Does that make sense? Both real people would be in the same situation, not knowing who the AI is, while the AI tries to behave like a human.

The Turing test is very specifically _not_ supposed to be a measure of sentience, which the original paper states directly, it's instead a substitute for the indefinable concept of "thinking", by providing an objective milestone. Chatbots have been passing turing tests for years anyway.

For those who don't wanna look over his channel: The chinese room was an experiment where one completely non chinese speaker and one native chinese speaker were put into 2 rooms, the chinese speaker would send instructions and questions to the non chinese speaker and the non chinese speaker was given another peice of paper to respond and a dictionedy for chinese, at the end of the test the non chinese speaking person still didn't understand chinese despite answering/doing most requests correctly while the chinese speaking person was shocked the person on the other end did not understand chinese and thought they knew it natively That's why it gets brought up in this discussion, because an AI is just copying us, it's got no understanding of what it's actually saying so it cannot genuinely comprehend emotion, wrongdoing etc.

Why not? If we keep building our society based on the notion that we are special, we'll be I'll prepared for a future in which we are not. I think any sentient being, be it artificial or organic, should be given rights the protects them from harm.
