Ғылым және технология

Yep if you remove the battery you cut the power to the phone and it cant be tracked. All phones now have build it batteries that can not be removed. Simply powering down you phone does nothing and it can still be tracked because it is still receiving power.

I think this is awesome for the ability of the user. Given yes the limitation of not being able to use apps on iOS or Android would be a downfall but me personally I would use this phone with my other phone. The Linux phone would just add to a programmers or software engineers experience with it being mobile. Plus I like the fact that it is open source. This has major ability and usage in the right hands. Great video! I enjoyed this.

  • @APyralis

I agree. A phone like this is quite smart, it builds in pretty well all the features people looking for privacy are looking for coupled with a removable (and thus exchangable) battery?! Sold. Keeping two of those spare batteries charged is easier than carting around a 20,000mAh battery pack. I was floored by the switches for cutting out bluetooth, wifi, and the camera - always wondered how Google knew my travel habits while my phone was in airplane mode... because it's not really. I've also seen Windows and Apple devices boot up Wifi to "check" or even download OS updates when the device was not connected to Wifi. The loss of creature comfort apps is probably its largest hindrance. Price is subjective, and those who are privacy minded will find a way to pay for it. The middle-ground option certainly seems like the easiest and widely available course of action. Apple has been using sandbox environments to protect from malware and such, why can't deGoogled Android do much the same when it comes to using Google services like Maps? Not a programmer, don't know... but seems like a shoe-in.

I had no idea that batteries wasn't removable anymore! When did this happen? My friend gave me his old Samsung Galaxy S5 that I'm using now when my other phone died. I miss the keys though, I don't like touchscreen.

It's a great idea and I hope it works out for them. I'd be interested in one, especially for it's expected longevity. By now, there should be ads in the second hand market for it. Let's see what these sell for, that should be a fairly good indicator of whether it's catching on.

The battery warnings say "laptop"... The software doesn't use GPU or Video Acceleration... And the drivers are still heavily in development. In my opinion the Pinephone from Pine64 is in much better shape (plus it only costs $150 or 200 depending on the model you get).

Open Source would not mean a competitor would immediately rip them off. The client free source would allow checking and the open server would give the surety yo describe. But a defined interface from client to source (i.e. source code to app), would allow probing of the server to see what leaked. Not quite the same.

There is no such thing as online security, never forget that though one can lessen the intrusions, so various defences are defo not all a waste of time. Cheers.

@Edmond Schwab it's a bit more complicated. Linux isn't technically in any way derived from UNIX (as in the original UNIX operating system), it just uses similar interfaces and as compatible to the POSIX standard. Most people would call it unix-oid or *NIX/UN*X. macOS is similarly not really derived from it, though as I understand it shares a considerably closer relationship to UNIX (and it's not really related to Linux at all beyond that common inspiration).

Been about 6 years I think for me. What I'm working on now is quiting youtube comments. Reading and responding but if I don't read I won't respond. It's nothing but a prideful self-righteous beastly thing.......any video any topic .....you got beasts fighting and murdering each other...... How about this one? No different. Someone said....... when asked? They did because they are exactly what I said above. Truth? It's deleted by the KZread. Comments and accounts. They wiped out one of my accounts and I didn't mention a single person's thing.....name number .... Nothing. They just didn't like what my comment said. Didn't even mention google or youtube in it. They lie and say your a threat and made attacks or broke their rules. Here is a literal quote for anyone who had their account taken down ......they have the right to delete ANY comment or Chanel FOR ANY REASON.. Literally what is says. ANY reason and it no reason at all......So yes.......if it's something they don't like ......they can wipe it out because they don't like it. Social media was easy....... I will get to the point where I don't read comments at all anymore. Nothing but a negative experience anyways. Every single damn video in existence you got the same prideful garbage and wars going in. Incredibly sickening. The brain dead spineless people deserve to wear masks for the test of their lives.......ready to go along to get a long in an instant........flee from any kind of persecution.......the people have ZERO power and they NEVER had any power to start with Gonna get worse and worse from here but even debatable. More people talking to robots isn't gonna help the matter. Greed never stops. Privacy being raped.......it won't end......can't end.....never has ended. It will go on until the nations are utterly destroyed just like it's always been and why EVERY nation that ever existed.......ceised to exist because they were evil and deserved whatever came.

The nail in the coffin for me was when I saw people I knew...... Trash people really close to them openly. and if anything is mentioned about people it right away becomes personal instead of trying to improve. But overall I think comments on KZread is worse than social media. Not to get into comments and stuff as much is definitely going to take practice. It's sad that that's what I'm seeing as the solution...... Just slowly removing yourself completely. notice no matter what the video or subject is it always becomes a personal attack instead of giving your thoughts on what the subject is. Things like you didn't graduate high school because you have a different opinion than me. and if you stick around with it you actually start doing what you hate and becoming that. I'm not afraid to admit that that's what happened to me. You start doing what you yourself hate because you're involved in in the middle of it. I don't believe there's anyone that strong enough to overcome that. You just literally have to remove yourself. Like if you were with people that were hard into to drugs or whatever it is just a matter of time before you become that. Oh well........ Maybe that's why humanity has been given so much time....... To prove that they just can't do what's right consistently. And people even know this but they still can't change. The snake eating its tail the circle of death...... Symbols are everywhere and yet people still don't change. Eating yourself to stay alive just doesn't work. As soon as anything is exposed it's always a point the finger and blame someone else game and personal attacks. I should be able to write this down and give what I see but really you can't. If you give true words it attacks who and what people are instead of learning from it.....it literally becomes a childish personal game. Eve blamed the serpent and Adam blamed Eve. Men have their weakness and women have their own weakness. Both parties are guilty.

Worth noting that Linux (along with the PostmarketOS project) will allow the lifespan of an android device to extend until it physically breaks. That being said, Librem 5 has a different ethos to the Linux philosophy. (the same could be said about the Pinephone) basically allowing developers to grow the software and improve open hardware. Once it's mature, these phones can be environmentally friendlier. Anbox kinda works now, so even if you're missing some Android apps, that is a workaround for things you simply can't live without.

Nice video one small detail tho the "i" in Linux is pronounced like the First I in information not like the i in ice cream. The reason us ( As I'm shore you knew) Linux was originally made by a Fin ( Linus Torvalds) and that is the way they pronounce I in finland ( well probably a tiny bit different but thats the way I've heard hime say it on several videos so I'll go with that). Hmm linux desktop you say, so ( out if the box) dise it run x11 if wayland.

@TP-Force There exist Linux tools for making an Android distro for PC and few phones and the Raspberry pi aswell. The problem is that phones don't use standardized hardware so likely no Android driver exist for parts of your phone and often the manufacturer, put in bootloader locks. However on the phones where it has worked, there are distros which can just be installed. A good place to look is the "Cyanogenmod", which uses a custom kernel and all other parts can be chosen, so you can opt out of all Google software if you like. I did this to a Huawei Y5 some time ago and besides having 4.8GB free of 6GB memory, as there was no background services, standby time was 16 days on a charge, but I needed to install apps as .APK files without a playstore, but the phone was faster than an octacore high end phone.

@@Tore_Lund You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Google owns Android, but it's still open source. Android has nothing to do with XDA. Edit: I just wanted to elaborate. Android is a project created and maintained by Android, Inc. which was aquired by Google, LLC. I'm not sure if Android, Inc. is still a thing or if Android is now provided directly by Google. Anyway, Android is developed primarily by Google employees, but there is some code written by AOSP contributers. AOSP contains no Google products/services, but Google services are normally pre-installed along with any manufacturer specific bloat ware. Android is not like "any other Linux distro". It uses the Linux kernel and that's about it.
