Art Tatum Inspired Guitar Runs 🔥 Pentatonic & Dominant 7b9 🎸

FREE 'Rethinking Jazz Guitar' course: bit.ly/RethinkingJazzGuitar
Art Tatum is the undisputed king of jazz piano, famed for his virtuosic speed which has yet to be matched. How can we emulate this style of playing on the guitar?
By moving five note patterns which outline certain chord degrees through the octaves we can emulate the style of runs performed by Tatum, Oscar Peterson and Monk. In this video we'll look at applying this idea to pentatonic runs as well as dominant 7 b9 runs and discuss application of these sounds. Good luck with it!

I never really thought of it that way, but you are exactly right of course! There are a few diminished ideas of Art's that I'm still trying to get down which I'm sure you'll enjoy once I finally get around to filming them. I hope all is well with you! cheers

Cheers Charles. Do have recordings of yourself playing complete songs and solos, you maybe composed yourself, on Spotify for instance? Greetings Hans!

Hi Hans, I don't really have any recent recordings other than what I have uploaded here on KZread. I struggled with my playing confidence in the past as well as working full time, but I feel I'm really starting to get 'my thing' together and am definitely excited to get something setup in the not too distant future. I'm particularly enjoying the small trio format with bass and horn/singer at the moment and that is certainly something which I would like to pursue soon to allow me to take harmonic control of an ensemble. That excites me. Cheers, Charles
