Nail Jazz Changes Without Knowing Scales! It's All On The Page🎶

FREE 'Rethinking Jazz Guitar' course: bit.ly/RethinkingJazzGuitar
Master soloing over your favourite standards without knowing any scales! Not clickbait, it really is more manageable than you might think. Let's discuss...
By taking a chord tone based approach to soloing we are already highlighting the changes in a 'vertical' manner. By adding to this any additional notes which the composer used in the melody over the chord we are guaranteeing their approval and that the notes will work. This combination of chord tones and melody tones creates hybrid scales which can be used to nail the changes every single time. Remember to look at all examples of a certain chord within a melody to look for any additional melody notes used elsewhere in the piece. This is a great way how to play over standards. Good luck!

@@CharlesHarrisonMusicTuition Hope you are doing well, Harrison! Chord tone soloing was an essential element of the classic jazz that led to bop. Shame that so many of us were introduced to modal theory first. Cheers, Daniel

I completely agree, scale based soloing is so trendy and I believe it stops people using the far more useful information on the page. Learn to understand the page then the scales will follow. It doesn't necessarily work the other way around!! If you're interested you can sign up for an upcoming free two week course which I'll be launching around the end of May. It'll be focused on all the things which I believe to be important but are often overlooked in super flashy guitar magazines and websites.
