Art Process: Drawing, Exploring and Finding New Ideas
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I share a little of my art process when creating something new. I like to draw and explore with different materials and approaches, think through doing… gradually unpack an idea. Get stuck in and see where it takes me.

Well I love that kind sentiment! Thank you x
These process videos are SO HELPFUL!! Learning to freely experiment, and to not be precious about the outcome, and not be worried about using up “too many” materials. It’s a necessity! Very freeing!

Giant vase - you're not kidding Helen! 😂 Your quick paint sketches are full of life and immediacy. I like the big belly of the vase. If I was painting it I would exaggerate the belly! Great idea to use the cut outs as stencils to look through. Thank you for showing us that art is a process and not just creating a work of art from the outset. ☺x

Thank you very much Bonnie. I like my work when it combines looseness and precision, a combination of chaos and control…but that’s not everyone’s preference, I think its good to think about what you like in your own work and do more of it..whatever that is! Love Helen xx

I really like to see how you work on a picture with each step. I am self-taught and go through similar processes and sometimes think that I am not okay with it. I also need to have the picture finished in my mind right from the start. Thank you for your contribution.❤

Hi sweet Helen ! Once again you took me on a cloud ride with your art and bubbling energy !! You look absolutely lovely surrounded by your art and all your exquisite treasures from your parents ! You have inspired how to incorporate my favourite things in my art and sometimes when I am sharing them with my friends they recognize these pieces from my home ! Drawing my personal things is making me appreciate what I do as I feel a connection with the piece I am drawing instantly since it is something I treasure ! I still strive to get better but don’t get discouraged as much as I used to because having that little special something in my drawing makes me want to try more new ideas and that is all thanks to You dear Helen ! I thank you sincerely and lovingly and wish you and your husband the best of health, happiness and love in your life. I send you warm hugs and love…..Lorraine 🥰🤗❤️🙏🏼🎨

Such a joyful video....I love your looseness in this and am taking notes. I do find that the more relaxed a drawing is, the more "alive" it feels, so I'm aiming for that. I thought your B&W drawings were stunning :)

Such a prolific and talented artist. Revisiting your classes and I'm happy that my daily practice has seen my skills grow. The repetition of patterns and shapes has led to me developing my own style by using some of our cultural symbols. Now Im exploring colour and enjoying it immensely. A new channel by Sonia Britton here on KZread has been really inspiring too. Thanks for your ongoing inspiration. I'm self taught and I'm enjoying playing with my art supplies and ideas. ❤

Such a lovely way to appreciate your treasures.
Your joyous art has inspired me as I have convalesced from a leg injury and spurred me on to explore pattern and design in my work with greater decorative freedom than I dared, before seeing your wonderful work. I wonder if you know of a book called "Art Forms in the Plant World", by Karl Blossfeldt. It is something of a classic go to as a source for artists and designers and consists of wonderfully clear close up black and white photographs of flowers, leaves, buds, stems, seed pods petals etc, that offer a dazzling variety of forms, shapes and patterns to draw inspiration from. Good luck with the exciting new work you are embarking on.

So beautiful and inspiring! I’m so glad I found your channel - it’s lifting me up 🎉😊 Thanks for sharing your positive energy! I was wondering if you use to work on loose sheets to glue them into your giant sketchbook later (rather than working directly in your sketchbook)? If yes, I’d be interested in your method to glue them without having them buckle or fall off. Thanks again for sharing your work and process ❤
@HelenWellsArtist
7 ай бұрын
Oh that’s a lovely response thank you. I do often glue them in. I just use the glue I have to hand, perhaps a good stick glue or matte medium. Because a stick glue is less wet it’s less likely to wrinkle…xx
