Thank you fir mentioning that the Fatal Fury animes (the first 2 anyway) were TV specials, because they were, not OVA's like what Viz Media and Diskotek Media/Eastern Star tend to think.

I remember getting one of those sample discs for KoF 95 in a gaming magazine; I only knew of Street Fighter and MK so the idea of lesser known titles never occurred to me, and it blew my mind. I was a huge SNK and Masami Oobari fan after that. When I was a teen I lived near a small game studio in TX that did localization for SNK and got to play in their arcade. I was too young to actually work and they moved once I got of age unfortunately.

This movie was so bad that it made Tekken look good. The story of Art of Fighting writes itself. As a kid, I thought the game was based on a Steven Seagal movie. I thought Robert Garcia was the Steven Segal character... 11:41 Fem Fatal? King was supposed to be passing as male in the first Art of Fighting. Strange that they set this game in New York instead of South Town. It may have helped them if they established a connection to the Fatal Fury anime.

I mean, this basically is the story of the first game just with an added jewel subplot. Even if you take out and just did plot points only from the game, that still wouldn't fix most of this movies issues.

Another great video, and thanks for giving fair play to the ost. A shame it's stuck to such a slog of an OVA because it just captures a vibe like anything else.

I'm one of the few people who kinda likes this movie, but I do realize it's not a masterpiece. I'm probably not as big into 'The Art Of Fighting' as I am other fighting franchises. Which explains why I never called it out for it's flaws. That being said, I think the 'Fatal Fury' movie, and it's OVAs were better by comparrison.

I remember when I was eleven, are Wal-Mart had an MVS unite with Art of Fighting 2 on it. I had a great time playing that game!

I’m gonna give SNK this. Compared to Capcom, they have Done so much more with the preservation of Fighting game characters in their King Of Fighters games compared to Capcom! They Excel with not just bringing back one of two characters, but 6 or 7 of them! It is undoubtedly one of the major strengths of SNK! Their IPs, cause from time to time, they always find a way to make it to future consoles!

IMO, I feel like some people get hyperbolic when it comes to the lower end of video-game-to-anime adaptations. As a fan of AoF games, yeah, this anime was disappointing in that it didn't stick closer to the game like the SF2 and FF anime (Ryo seemed to have gone all City Hunter), but other than that it was just OK. Not a 45 min I regret. For me there was nothing ridiculously stupid or cringy about it (but then, I wached it subbed only). I'd rather see a film adaptation of a game/comic/manga I like end up like what's considered the "worst" anime adaptations like this one, rather than as bad as it can really get (i.e. the live action KoF, SF2, Chun-li, and Dragon Ball movies).

I mean, it pretty much was the legend of Chun li and DragonBall evolution. An adaptation that made changes for the sake appelaing to wide audience, only for it to turn away dedicated fans. The only thing it really has over those movies is that it's animated and incredibly short.

This Ryo is clearly based on the AOF commercials at the time. And the jacket with the gi is based on actual character art for Ryo, so while this is not as accurate as the game is still drawing from the game ethos.

And agreed, I have a soft spot for this one, even as a major fan of the series. There's no major "crime" here. It's a it could have been better situation but frankly some other adaptations where not as fun to me.

Lol I would see this tape at Media Play all the time and pass it up. When I saw this thumbnail I was like, “Oh, was it actually good?” Then I watched the video, “oh, lol”

Nick Sullivan also voiced Ferio in the Rayearth OVA.

This was a great and fun anime

i somehow espected the movie to be related to the manga but the manga is know to follow the game plot, i dont know much about the manga being that there´s not transletions for the manga or much on the original source.

Key kid, stay outta South Town! Low effort comment.

The baffling thing to me is: How did they get so much wrong? The game's Story Mode LITERALLY spells everything out for you! (Assuming you can beat it, which I can't...) You don't even have to put in a quarter to know the basic premise! Not-Ryu and Not-Ken have to scour South Town to find Not-Sakura (okay, Yuri existed first...) and save her from a host of bad guys like Chinese Vega, Chris Farley, David Spade, Evil Guile, Crackhead Balrog, and Not-A-Pimp-Named-Slickback, before the whole "I Am Your Father" plot twist. (That's Lee, King, Jack, John, Mickey, and Mr. Big for those that don't get jokes...) But no, they make... THIS!!
