Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Follow along, start to finish, as Art Jewelry magazine associate editor Jill L. Erickson demonstrates how to add color to copper metal sheet by building up layers of colored pencils. It's easy once you know which products to use - you can draw directly on the metal!

Like any other technique, It can be done well or not. I have used this as an "inlay" effect on pieces. First, I create a fine matte finish on the areas I'm working. Then, , I will add a very thin layer of water-based texturing paint. Once that's dry, then I can use pencils, inks, whatever. With pencils, the trick seems to be a very light hand and layering.

ClassyGeek: The copper form was textured, then patinated and painted with gesso before we started the coloring - we put that information in the caption on the first screen, but it might have scrolled by too fast.

Curious, why bother patinating if it's going to be covered up?

Wow, throwing a lot of shade in these comments. And as to how 'juvenile' the technique is, google the artist Deb Karash and tell me again how cheap and juvenile the technique is. While I wouldn't base a project on this video alone, it's a basic intro from years ago...do some (virtual) legwork and find out more, or take an artist's workshop. All y'all want it all for free, when artists spent years developing and adapting what was a new technique. smh.

Seems like it would chip first time someone wearing a drawn pendant leaned forward and it knocked against a table edge or something. No?

I agree with the previous comments, where is the copper, and I do not need information on how to use colored pencils, I need to know the steps to prepare the copper for the gesso, and what type of gesso.

Jennifer Price It's a way to get color into your jewelry designs without using stone. I have seen jewelers mount pieces of colored metal to silver or more copper and it is lovely.

Ya. Kind of agree. I thought they would heat the pencil to create enamel. I can just pencil on paper - lots cheaper.

The video is 12 years old, people didn't think about reveal shots back then - they were more intent on showing you the process.

Not such a good idea. I think it looks amateurish and cheap. Maybe other applications would look better.

Copper sheet? What copper sheet - unless you painted over it before you started this vid. And if you did then why say it is a tut on coloring copper sheet? Misleading.

What is the point of using copper at all if you won't see a single bit of it? If I were to make something so juvenile, I'd make the base of polymer clay or resin. Texturizing it would allow you to use the same process you used on it at a cheaper price since you don't see the copper anyway. Not to mention the fact your end result looks like something a child would make in art class, and get a failing grade, is fairly pathetic. I'm unsubscribing from you now. You are a ridiculous publication.
