Thanks for the review, I think I may have the first edition which could have a lot less digital emphasis. I'll have to look, could be not the same book although the title was the same. I seem to remember lots of drawing "problems" to try at the end of each chapter, which I used quite a bit.

Was it the same book? And if so was it as focused on digital or a bit more in traditional art?

Looks like a good book. Kinda funny that a book primarily on digital art wouldn't have a digital format though!

@RonaldandData That and the fact that the high prices of their books doesn't give their buyers the incentive to share it. Even I would reconsider sharing a $40 book for free

looks very pretty but i don't think an average beginner like me can learn anything from it. for light and shadow, they are showing us Caravaggio painting lmao, how the hell are we supposed to learn anything if examples are that hard

That's just an example, there's much more info on light and shade in that book using basic geometric shapes. It's good to see can be done, and Caravaggio is the "master" of a form of extreme light and dark modeling for dramatic emphasis. You have to start somewhere, the key is just to start. You can find basic light modeling exercises in many good books on drawing in libraries to understand the concept, then start setting up still life for yourself to draw from..... it's always best to draw from life when you are able.

I'd like to look at it but not buy it. I've spent the past 5 years getting rid of stacked up books... going clutter free, or trying to! Maybe I can find an e version.
