Arsenal’s Christmas NIGHTMARE & ‘Cold’ Palmer Breezes Past Luton | EP 63

Спорт

How do Arsenal recover from a poor run of form over the festive period? With players returning from injury, what is Pep Guardiola’s best XI? Who had a surprise meeting with David Beckham over the Christmas holidays?
Gary and Micah also discuss whether VAR is now actually encouraging diving, rather than preventing it.

As a Rangers fan, we had Bassey for 2 years. He didn’t play much the first year and he came into the team the 2nd half of the season we got to the Europa league final and he came from nowhere into that team on that run and was unreal. Still very raw, but physically an absolute monster. Comfortable at left back or left sided centrehalf. He’s not the best on the ball but at our level was more than competent but maybe found out at a higher level. He got slaughtered at Ajax and made a scape goat there a bit but they were in a mess at the time. We all knew he would go to EPL and do well. Great guy as well, great to see him doing well

The thing about pep is that all of his guys will get game time. Every single player has gotten pretty good amount of time if they are healthy and available. Pep's rotations have been nearly perfect. It must be easier as a more rotational player that when you come in you don't necessarily have to put in a masterclass to win, a win if pretty much guaranteed regardless of who is starting for them

The assumption that highly rated players should transition into management roles or even punditry more successfully than the less well known players and, therefore the latter have to work harder (as Micah said) is mainly based on other people's expectations. All these roles entail very different skills sets. This is the main reason for so many failures and disappointments.

Could be a cop out but I think teams undervalue how much midweek european games take it out of you. Arsenal were at full steam for 80% of the season last year and this year they haven't really bolstered their squad and they're in the champions league, it's not surprising they've come a little unstuck at the Christmas period. Honestly I think it's one of the best reasons we took the europe conference seriously, playing in Europe in midweek is just becoming routine for west ham now and it has had less of am impact on our weekend games so far, obviously the level of competition is nowhere near europa league or champions league but I think the routine does help.

It's very aggressive that Gary praises forest but sarcastically many times bc he doesn't like the claims of fans who are quiet right. I'm not a fan of Nottingham and I honestly don't like them, but the treatment that Forest receives from this podcast is consistent, often insulted. In this case the "STORY" is apparently that Man U played badly and Forest is just an anecdote around that, particularly on MOTD. If fans complain, they are needy and are rewarded with sarcasm. This video excerpt sums it all up,

Players "dive" because the ref never gives a foul unless the player goes down. That's why players exaggerate contact, not because of VAR but because it's just an subconscious action they've always done. Let's not forget legends like Ronaldo, Drogba, Gerrard, Lampard and many others exaggerated contact on a weekly basis.

@@user-zm9xf7mo4pthis is the issue with internet arguments, you read what you want to read. I never defended diving, I was responding to Gary saying players are going down more often easily because of VAR. My point was that players have always done it long before VAR existed and the argument made back then was because refs never gave fouls unless a player went down. Actual diving like Drogba against Lehmann is pathetic and should be cut out, which it is because you can now get a retrospective ban for doing it. The difference with the debate they're having is they're not debating feigning contact, they're debating exaggerating contact which is a massive difference. Feigning contact is cheating, which the Villa player didn't do. He exaggerated the contact because he was fouled.

Gareth Southgate must call Livramento up into Euro squad. PERIOD. It is a must and no reason for Southgate to snub Livramento unless Southgate want to see Livramento get into Scotland squad and that will be Southgate traitorous act before he step down which will be remembered. I don't get what is inside Gareth head, why the h*ll Henderson, Phillips and Maguire always get into the squad even they are not performing good enough?

There's a lot of RB tbf so I doubt he'll get called up unless there's injuries. I still think he should go for the LB position cos that's probably where we're weakest and he's his enough to play there imo

@@someonealreadyhasthatname1052 I mean we need to tied him down because he will be much needed in World cup 2026. Walker is no longer young and i don't think Walker can still perform at the top level in 2026. And sorry i don't rate the other RB as better than Livramento because as a modern fullback, player should have a good pace, dribbling, attacking positioning, one on one defending, and defensive awareness. Trippier, Trent, James have the above mentioned weakness but not Livramento because Tino is a modern fullback.

Arsenal's such an odd team. When a pundits an Arsenal fan it's a thing. He's a major pundit on Sky, why not stick his colours to the flag like the rest. It needs balancing out.

So, all season pundits have been saying," Well, there was contact so it's a penalty," to now, when Liverpool got one (and Dubravka even admitted there's contact), "It's a dive. There's contact but it's a dive." I understand that it's soft, but we've been getting this all season from every team going, and NOW it's an issue because Jota went down when he could have put the ball into an empty net in a game they were already winning? Hah.
