Arsenal are not a selling club, will take time to reverse that perception in the market. I think next summer we will have leverage. Nobody really wants an overpriced ESR Eddie Nelson etc. they’re bargain buys because they’ve barely played and when they have they’ve looked average

The value of players depends on what someone is willing to pay not what fans think they should .

Saying Arteta doesn’t trust ESR is such an overreaction. He was injured quite a bit in the first 1/2 of the season then when ESR was finally back we were in the title run in with no cup games. So it would be way to risky to throw in a player who’s barely been fit all season when we’re going for the title. We need to give ESR 1 more year to prove his fitness. If he has a good pre season then stays injury free then he will definitely get games!

@@braxtonmay391 trouble is Odegaarde and Rice currently occupy what Arteta appears to see as his best positions. Both of those are pretty much always available. I’d personally like to see him used on the left again like when he first broke through, still faces stiff competition though.

I’m lucky enough to be going to the Europa league final tonight! Can’t wait to see Xhaka play and hopefully a few new Arsenal players if we dip into their squad this summer!

Ramsdale, Nketiah, Nelson, Smith-Row, Vieira, Tierney, Lokonga and Tavares should go if they aren't going to play. Replace them with players who will get minutes to take the pressure off those who always play so they remain fresher.

Fitness is his only issue really. I don’t think he’s had a preseason for the past 2 seasons. If he stays fit then Arteta will definitely use him more.

Hi Charles, Hubert from Texas. I think we should be looking at Ademola Lookman. The winger for Atalanta. I think he would be a fantastic addition to our squad. He’s a fast winger, strong and a fantastic dribbler. He also scores goals which is a very important part of a good attacking side.

Hi Charles, I would aim for three or four signings at most, with the most pressing an attacking winger and/or a striker. I think the outgoings will be Ramsdale, Nuno and Nketiah for sure, with a maybe for Nelson, and would definitely have a look at Sambi when he comes back before selling. ESR, Zinchenko and Jesus in no way I would release, along with Viera. Quality depth is needed and you wouldn't get much better on the market at the moment compared to alot of the squad already. It would be ideal to loan as many of those players out and get their valuations higher similar because some of the fees that are being quoted for our players is crazy. Look at what Chelsea demanded for Kai and Mason at the time when they weren't starting. We need to put ourselves in the same position, with it seemingly looking like their lack of playing time has hurt their valuation, I don't really think there is a downside. Most teams will know the quality of players like Reiss and Eddie, I think if they had a locked down starting position in a mid-low level club in the prem they will have a great opportunity to really increase their value. The smart move would be to target the newly promoted sides or sides and offer them the loan chance. BTW Rambo was a premier leauge team of the season keeper, he should be $60m+ imo. May sound crazy but its the market were in Arsenal's got to play hardball. We gave Leno away for pennies, can't do that again.

Thanks as ever Charles. On selling players, I think the key thing is to have a flexible approach - because ultimately you can only sell players the market wants to buy. Obviously within this there are untouchable players (we all know who) and ones that are clearly in the unwanted category - Tierney, Tavares, Lokonga etc. But if, for example, there’s offers for both Vieira and ESR - you go with the better financial deal for the club. I’d prefer to sell Eddie, but if there was a massive offer on the table for Jesus I’d do it. And it’s got to link to who you might bring in too. One reason I can see Zinchenko potentially leaving is that you could bring someone like Hato in to replace him. I think if you go in with an inflexible approach, you miss out on a lot of the best opportunities. For example, if we had a strict ‘get your business done early’ approach, we wouldn’t have signed Odegaard…

We talk a lot about cover for Saka, but I think having adequate cover for Odegard is just as important. He looked a bit leggy in those last couple of games (his assist on the weekend showed this) and it seems like Arteta doesn't trust ESR or Viera enough to cover for him. Havertz did play right 8 while Ode was injured this season, but I don't think that's the best option as Havertz is needed elsewhere too

We can beat teams 6-0 or not score at all ! *THAT* is the problem, we need a natural goal scorer who will clinically finish when we are _desperate_ to score - that is not Havertz...

Interesting summer ahead. I'm looking forward to seeing what arsenal do. We could see over 10 players go (including those on loan like Tierney and Sambi) if Arsenal can find teams willing to offer the right financial package for Arsenal and the player.

I think MA is very much against moving Zinchenko on. He's a player MA targeted, he's the best option for inverting on the left and a player that Tomi and Kiwior cannot match with inverting, Timber could be more of a sub and rotation option for anyone on the back line, he doesn't need to play left back, he's much more versatile than that. With our coaches he can be the number one rotation option across the back, covering for injuries and need for rotation in any of those positions. So far Timber has played in the following positions CB 166 RB 49 LB 12 DM 2

Charles, thanks for all of your great reporting and content throughout the season. Not saying anything really new here, but I think where we came up short was in being not quite as good as MC in being more reliable and clinical in finishing. I know we were tied for best goal difference with them, but I believe we had several more games than City where we scored nil (e.g., Newcastle, West Ham, Aston Villa). I don't think the Villa games killed us per say (they were a top 4 side), nor that we may have been conservative in approach at City, it was the West Ham (particularly) and Fulham defeats. So I agree with the position that we need to try to improve that as a priority, whether it is in the middle and/or on the wing. Also, one comment on our second goal, I'm wondering whether Oliver let it stand as he thought it was marginal (Jesus's arms were pretty tight at his side and not making his body bigger IMO) and did not want to let a call like that be significant in the title race (I don't know whether he had any awareness of the City score).

This summer will be the first time we can really see what Edu is made of when it comes to selling players. In the past our players had very little value, now we could get some decent money for them

last summer was already new for saling department, 1st time we sold players who weren't unwanted at the club and it immediately positively effected price tags. I think money for Balogun turned out to be perfectly fair, Xhaka -arguable, but decent buy european numbers

I feel like Poch needed another season. They had a good turnaround at the end of the season and looked like they started gaining momentum. Boehly wants to emulate Arsenal's success and strategy but isn't willing to give managers the time to build a squad. Personally, as much as I don't want Chelsea to be beating Arsenal again, The Premier League needs more teams that are able to take points off of Man City.

Hi Charles, I think you're right in the hale end trio are at a stage in their careers - 24, 25 years old and really do need to be playing regularly. I really hope we get some money for Partey, his wages off the books free up 10 million a year and as much as I'd like to keep him, it's too much for his reliability record - the DM for me is where I can picture us spending the big money on someone who can come in and improve the 11 immediately, who though, I really don't know. Other positions up front, wide player, defender in that order of importance I predict will be more youth/potential types with the aim of improving the squad overall and on those that are leaving. 100mil in sales, ideally more, but I think they'll be some more loans. Promote Nwaneri to the cup squads, 80-100mil DM, 50mil Sesko, 40mil Simmons, 30 mil Hato (loan back if Zinchenko stays is the only way I see Ajax agreeing) and I'll be very happy with that. Everyone mentioned should be sold. Would love Tierney to stay, but his fitness is an issue, plus he struggles to play an inverted role. He's an old school defender that may be suited to clubs like Everton, Newcastle and maybe even Brighton.

ESR vs Fabio Vieira? Really is that even a question? Just me looking at the list. I would keep ESR vs the option. ESR has delivered more and the injury record is nearly the same. If one is getting rid of a player vs the other to me it’s a no brainer.

Am i wrong didn't Ramsdale sign a long term contract if we cant get something respectable + 10mil if strengthening a potential rival then why not use himfor cup games i umderstand Rambo deserves to play 1st team ball, but considering how much other teams sell 1 season wonders for, 15 million is disrespextful to both club and player.

If you can put the transfermatket values against the player names they can prove a helpful yardstick to discuss sales of these players rather than arbitrary numbers at the top of our heads

Who else thinks going kinda big for Mainoo and Palmer would be surprisingly good investments? Not only do we hurt direct competition but we fill areas we really do need to add quality in depth. Mainoo could be developed to be a Rice and/or MO8 cover in the 8 role while already proving he can handle the EPL. Palmer would push ( I don't believe take over but good competition) Saka on the right along with potentially being able to cover MO8 as well as Saka. Chelsea will be getting a new manager in while ETH position isn't solid either... We also have UCL football while both of them will be watching it on TV otherwise. We have lost key players to them in the past... Revenge would be so sweet. More so if they provided the trusted depth to help us not only win the EPL but UCL.

Tbf, one reason to keep viera over esr is that since esr is an academy player, his sale will count as pure profit under ffp, allowing us to invest more than if we only sold viera instead. Viera’s also a baller imo, was doing so well before his unfortunate injury.

Personally, i'd love to keep smith-rowe, think he offers so much in terms of driving with the ball and linking up play along with arriving in the box. Agree that veiria was doing well until his injury, but he's been back for ages and hardly featured.

Charles you do such a great job but with all due respect, let's put emotions aside. We must cash in now on Smith Rowe, he's showing flashes but this is a business. The future is now, no time to waste, that's the difference with a Real, City etc... We need quality now

Charles if we were to sign 3/4players this summer who would you like for us to sign, taking into account realistic price and availability etc. I would love Diomande, Hato, Frankie de Jong and Sesko. Could realistically sign them all for around £200m, let go of Ramsdale, Nelson, Lokonga, Eddie, Tavares, Tierney, Partey to bring net spend down closer to £100m. If Partey goes I would add another midfielder to that list ( Onana or Zubamendi)

I think that until we win the title we can’t be signing squad players or project players (like Sesko). We need to be signing players that could potentially push members of our starting 11 out or push them to be better.

My take on Arteta not fully trusting ESR, Nelson, and Nketiah is due to them not having the mentality of sensing how important the moment is. While all three of ESR, Nelson, and Nketiah have talent, each action in a game can make or break a season and a moment of mental lapse can lead to a negative moment. Arteta can't risk giving them more game time due to this.

Tierney, Viera, Reiss, Tavares, Lokonga, Zinchenko, Eddie. E.S.R still 50-50.

Arsenal should really focus on shipping some bit-part players. English squad players can fetch good money. But as an English club, I would replace these outgoing members with home grown players. Other than that, Zinchenko, Elneny, Cedric should be sold..

Charles, Would you agree that if one between Vieira and Smith Rowe had to go 100%, then it surely has to be Vieira? I like him as a player, but if I had to choose, then Vieira it is. Both of them haven't gotten any play time and Arteta seems to not trust them. However, when it has come to it, he has chosen Smith Rowe to jump in for 5 minutes if needed in this last part of the season. We surely can't lose both of them, especially if Partey goes. An argument for selling ESR is the FFP element as he’d count as pure profit (academy player) - allowing us to invest more

Why would you worry??? Even if poch stayed they're still never going from 63 points to 90 points or more next season. It takes many seasons to reach that level and there's no guarantee they will even get to that level as you see man utd and newcastle finishing 3rd and 4th last season and doing worse this season.

Anything less than £25m for Ramsdale is a nonstarter. He's top drawer and has a long-term contract. We should not panic sell. Nketiah, Nelson, ESR, Nelson, Lokonga, Vieira, Tavares, Soares, Elneny and Tierney need to go. I would convert Jesus to a winger to compete with Saka. I would also push Zinchenko into a defensive midfielder position. We then need to bring in Benjamin Sesko or Isak from Newcastle. If we can keep Ramsdale and Partey, I would keep them. However, if they leave we will need another keeper to compete with Raya and a good midfielder to replace Partey.

⁉Hey Charles. Love your podcast. Where do you see Jakub Kiwior playing next season? With Timber fully fit it and Saliba/Gabriel playing almost every game, it seems like Kiwior will not see a lot of minutes next season. Curious about your opinion. Thanks.

I really can't see Mikel leaving for another team until we've won the league and champions league or at least given it his best shot. Then as I was writing this I realised the marketing opportunity that is Alonso's Madrid vs Arteta's Barcelona and I was a bit sick in my mouth.

Hi Charles, love the content as always! What are your thoughts on Lookman at Atalanta? Not the flashiest of names at winger but has had a very solid season for Atalanta playing out wide on the left. He scored 9 goals and had 6 assists in Serie A as well as 2 goals in the first 30 minutes of the Europa League final (as I’m writing this haha). Might be a bit reactionary considering I’m watching him play unbelievably against an invincible Leverkusen team currently, but just seems like he might be a little cheaper than other names we’ve been linked with and could definitely provide much needed cover for Martinelli and Saka without the massive drop off we currently have. (Edit) - Make that 3 goals in the final and 15 goals in all competitions haha

I've never rated Nketiah and personally he should of been sold last season! The only player I'd hate to see go is ESR! But he won't get into the team. Like I said, Eddie needs to go this window, or we'll be stuck with him for another season and will have to give him a new contract so we can get a decent fee for him!

Tavares, Lokonga, Nelson and Nketiah definitely should leave. Regarding Ramsdale, Tierney and ESR, I would like them to stay, but if they're not going to play, then it might be better for them to leave too.

I think Eddie has to be sold and if I'm ESR I want to be sold. Also Reiss Nelson should want to move on. I'd sell Vieira before ESR. And yes Tierney, Tavares, Sambi are sales. Zinchenko, well maybe in January. We need to maintain squad quality.

ESR will stay next season that for sure ✔️ Arteta is better than us what he see every day in training. All we need patience and trust the Manager and His back room staffs then Edu. They all will speak and listen together and they all already know. What target are they looking at ? The owner will listen to them 100%. I can’t wait for next season.

I _REALLY_ don't want to sell ESR, but if somebody comes up with £60m+ then I understand it. We have to sell Ramsdale, Nketiah, Lokonga, & Nelson (I like Nelson but _perhaps_ not quite good enough ? Arteta doesn't play him). Can we manage to offload Tavares & Tierney for something ? I don't know, they are always injured. I don't want to sell Partey, rotate him with the new No.6.

Zinny and Jesus have to stay and be squad players. They are more than capable of contributing to the team but we have moved beyond them in the starting 11. If Partey wasn't in his last year and ao injury prone I'd be saying the same but if an offer comes in then he has to go sadly. Should get at least 100m for Rambo, ESR, Nelson & Eddie and then Lokonga, Tavarres and Tierney should bring in a bit more. No reason why 150m income isn't the target including the sale of Partey and that should go a long way to securing 2 top starters for the squad (a midfielder and forward) and a defender to beef up the squad and a backup goalie.

I’m on the ‘sell ESR’ side of this debate. If, as some suggest, smith-rowe gets another chance next season to prove he’s not a sick-note and it doesn’t go his way with injuries, he loses value, just likeJack.
