I have been in the hobby for 8 months now, and this is, BY FAR, the best video explaining the setup and binding of an airplane. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with we newbies to the sport. I just purchased my first PNP plane and now have the confidence to install my first receiver. Looking forward to your other videos.

As a complete beginner this type of video is a massive help in understanding the process. The Bigfoot seems to be a good choice for a novice. Thanks for explaining what I thought would be a more simple process, as when I eventually get going I will at least understand some of the terminology and my eyes will not be rolling around with the instructor. Thank you so much!!

Thank you for doing this, I have had this plane, a Spektrum AR620 receiver and a DX6e transmitter for almost a year and still haven't flown it! It's a bit more complicated that I imagined but I still want to take a step up to something like this Bigfoot before the batteries take a crap. The RTF model I have the most fun with is the electric, foam Boeing 787 airplane. It flies so good and will take a beating, that I choose that one to fly because I can fly it right in my neighborhood, I do touch and goes on the street and I fly it at night with the optional, under-the-wing light kit. The range on it is also very good and so easy to fly.

You should take the prop off before binding because you do not have a throttle cut yet. And electronics can have a mind of their own at times. Which means that the prop could spin while plugging in the battery. Once you have bind the plane and have throttle cut enabled then this wont be an issue anymore.

Sadly the brushless motor I have is beeping at around 60bpm, and I can't make it spin, I set throttle on channel 1 and when I plug in a servo it works perfectly. They charged me nothing and I told them that I had not purchased this receiver from them, They said that did not matter, its Spektrum and they back Spektrum!!! I was out only 5 bucks in the end. They explained its an occasional bad solder that breaks free or shorts out after use, They said its very rare.

Here writes a very beginner, about to make the big jump from F949S 3-channel Cessna to big foot. After a year of having the Bigfoot hanging beautifully, it’s time has come. I’ve got a Spektrum DX8 and AR8000 which I am now quite familiarized with. My dummy-beginner question: how well does Bigfoot takes crashes? And how important would it be to install a stabilizator. I do have good feeling now with correcting problems but still want to be less stressed by knowing that after a “hard landing” it will not be destroyed. Any experiences? 🙏 thanks!!

I have never crashed my Bigfoot but she is quite rugged. Do your self a favor and do not put that AR8000 in it. Put an admiral stability plus in her. It has excellent range and is less expensive that a good stabilizer too. And It has an excellent built in stabilizer with level recovery. It also has compatible range to spektrum and will bind to your dx8 no issues. Here is a link and follow the web sites (same page as purchase) video tutorials on how to set it up. www.motionrc.com/collections/rc-aircraft-receivers/products/admiral-rx600sp-6-channel-dsmx-compatible-receiver-with-6-axis-stabilizer

Great video. I just got my Bigfoot and the invoice says PNP with installed Vector. I have a Spektrum DX6e and I thought I could put a AR620 receiver and bind it to my transmitter which your video show so well. However, does that mean I cannot use the Vector stabilization system? To use the Vector system, do I need to get a compatible transmitter for the Vector Stabilization system to work? Or, do I just set the plane up as you have shown with the AR620 receiver? It did not come with an ESC. What do you recommend for that? Thanks so much for your help. Your videos are the best!!!!

  • @FatGuyFliesRC

    @FatGuyFliesRC

If your Bigfoot is a PNP then it has a ESC. If not you need to get on the phone with Arrows. And yes you can most certainly use the vector with the AR620. that's an ideal setup no need for anything else. There is a one page sheet in the manual that will show you how to easily setup the vector with ANY receiver! And if for some strange reason you end up with no ESC at least a 40 amp preferably the stock one sold with the PNP Bigfoot.

@@FatGuyFliesRC Thanks for the reply but I do not want to mess with the as3x/safe so I will disable those and use just the vector for stabilization since it is already optimized for this plane. But in order to connect the 8360 to the vector I need to know is the 8360t a PWM reciever?

Any idea how to replace the rudder servo

  • @FatGuyFliesRC

Yes, take wing off. Disconnect rudder servo from receiver. tie a string around that servo wire. go to bad rudder servo. disconnect rudder servo from rudder and remove control arm of the servo. Use a pair of needle nose plyers and remove servo like you would a bad tooth,(grab servo on either side and rock back and forth) when bad servo breaks the glue seal carefully remove the servo and allow lead and the STRING you tied back at the receiver to pull through the new opening where you removed the bad servo. Untie string and make sure you either have a new servo with a long enough lead or use a servo extension (probably have one from the old servo setup) Tie the string to your new lead with possible extension (make sure extension connection is secure , use tape if necessary) and feed lead back through to the receiver and connect to receiver. install new servo in the same orientation using trusted glue (I suggest hot glue) and reattach all the hard ware. I FORGOT!!! TEST THE NEW SERVO BEFORE YOU INSTALL!!! If you dont have a servo testor hook the new servo loosley to the rudder servo port on the Big Foots receiver. Be mindful of prop if you dont choose to remove it while working on plane. (you really should) Then fire the plane up and try the servo that's hanging from the receiver , if it works with rudder input your good then.

A buddy of mine bought a FMS T28 V2 DXe 6 and a AR620, Does the AR620 have basic safe mode and can he bypass the reflex V2 and just use the AR620???? Thanks for the info on the binding and radio set up, These radios get very confusing to me and you made it a lot easier to understand 👍🏻✌🏻

No the ar630 is just a non gyroed reliable receiver. That is a great choice receiver to use with the bigfoot where in one of the vector or Reflex gyro modes the gyro can be turned off. If you wish to yank out the gyro system then plane will fly just fine without it and use the ar620 only.

Thank you for your excellent series of videos. You tell it how it is and you really know your stuff. At my RC flying club in England (we operate from a WW2 B17 airfield) a few of the guys have tried my FMS Super EZ and they really like it but wished that it was bigger. May I ask your opinion on if you think the Bigfoot would be a suitable choice? Thanks' again Ron Spencer

The EZ from FMS is one I never owned so I cannot compare. all I can say is this is my second Bigfoot and If it finally dies and if they are available I WILL buy another one. It is on par with the E-Flite Timber just a heck of a lot cheaper!

  • @FatGuyFliesRC

Yes with the Vector system and a NON gyro Spektrum receiver like the ar620. The Spektrum receiver is controlled by the Spektrum transmitter. The Gyro or in this case the vector system controls AFTER the spectrum receiver. With the RTF version of this plane the stock transmitter (handheld radio) and the Arrows Receiver (radio in the plane) are not compatible with the Spectrum equipment. The Vector system or GYRO does not care what system you use to control the plane . Its purpose is to either self right you, optimize your flight, or turn the gyro off and you have full non optimized control. I hope I did not confuse you.

@@gigadodo00 Be careful, does your new plane have retracts or flaps also? because YES that port will have power but you do not want to overload your BEC in the ESC. to much at once can cause a signal loss at the wrong time. with strobes your better off with a seperate dedicated 2s lipo with a led conroller.

@@FatGuyFliesRC thanks for the info. I just checked my ESC and the BEC it's rated for 5V/5A. My plane does have landing gear and flaps as well as position lights, but wanted to add strobes and a landing light. Guess I need to figure out my max load. I have a adjustable digital power supply, could I just power the receiver through the batt terminal actuate all the servos and monitor the max current load? Thinking this would give the amount of margin I have to power the extra leds and light controller.

@@gigadodo00 Check the pull on those strobes . but you will still need to power the receiver from the ESC. I am afraid directly from the battery may fry to receiver. perhaps tie the new lights into the existing lights and then check every thing on a watt meter while under power with cycling the flaps, and gear upside down on the stand with the prop off of course. then move way back and put it into a range test with all that going. If you have no signal loss and loss of function then I would say your good to go.
