Originally, the lazarus pits didn't resurrect on their own - it was a combination of herbs & potions combined with the pit. I like to think the "special herbs" used to heal him were the same ones Al-Ghul's priests used on the pit.

Indeed. I like how the entire setup builds it up, and then Ra's is so not bothered that he doesn't pick up a weapon. And the again, it build to a doomed comeback. Perfect use of the traditional hero-villian setup. Shame they couldn't keep it up and have Ra's just give Oliver respect to run his city at the end of the season, without ever coming close to losing.

Exceptional Writing. This scene almost covers all the moral paradoxes that needs our reevaluation. Ra's Al Ghoul's psychological torment after killing his first man. How he tries to justify the killing by convincing himself it as a defence to protect his family. How he strengthens his justification and builds a strong moral compass over time to a point where he never questions it's flaw, and kills a man, and prays for him after killing, as a duty bound to his own impeccable moral principle, placing himself at much morally superior position than the one he's just taken the life of. This almost makes you question your own moral code and makes you want to take side of Ra's himself.

Disappointment Department Of course he did, I never said he didn’t. But Ra’s is one of the best fighters in the DC universe who doesn’t have a super power. Ra’s is one of the few guys that would still lose to Batman but have him walk away with some critical injuries. Remember Ra’s knows everything Batman knows because he taught him. However Batman is easily one of the most clever and intelligent characters in DC next Lex Luther if we’re going by comics. Ra’s is a badass though and if we’re doing a top 10 fighters list in dc based on hand to hand combat Ra’s is in there.

Not to mention Oliver killed ras with same method ras stabbed Oliver and pushed down the mountain. This shows Ras even wanted Oliver to kill him with ras' own method

Ra's monologue is perfect, I always come back to this video.

This scene is majestic... They purposely made the viewers judge and falsely believe that Arrow was going to be a winner because of age and body build... And that moment where Ra's has control of the fight SINCE THE START, and it starts degrading to the point that they give you the breath of hope when Arrow seemingly gets the upper hand and then takes it away when he is killed... That is good directing right there. Sadly, after this point in time, the show never could deliver better. This was the same as the Thawne's reveal to Cisco in the Flash. Both majestic moments that the shows have not been able to reproduce.

both, almost exactly, predictable for those who know a slightest bit of the comics. Whilst a 'real twist' would be to have Ivy do exactly what she does in Gotham Sirens when she realises Batman led her on (i.e. go from an anti-hero to destroying everything around central part in 12 seconds), it's the twist that should be the genesis of either hero, and then they don't let it BE a defining moment, because next season it should be forgotten entirely, as that makes writing easier.

CW needs to remember the point of these shows is the heros, not their friends and girlfriends

The music towards the end, which reminds him of everybody who is loved truly, was sooo soothing and relaxing. Let me be honest, I watched this video over a thousand times, because of this music..❤❤

I gotta say, I really found Ra’s line about replacing evil with death to be incredibly interesting. Death comes for us all, it’s inevitable (even in a show where they have a Lazarus pit). While I don’t agree with the use of the death penalty, I do agree with it in concept. Some people have done so much genuine evil that replacing their evil with death is the better choice in my opinion. Of course our world is flawed so applying this concept tends to be twisted and wrong in many ways, but in a just world I would have to agree that replacing evil with death is the right thing to do.

This is one of Arrow’s best fights, but my god is it noticeable how much they switch out the Ra’s actor in this fight scene.

as soon as Ra's said " ill take your blades from you" I would have dropped them swords and fought with my bare hands

Forgive and have mercy upon him... Excuse him and pardon him... Make honorable his reception... Protect him from the punishment of the grave... And the torment of fire. Best Dialogue in the whole show

Idk I really liked this season because of Ra’s Al Ghul. The actor who played him was phenomenal. This was obviously the best episode of the season.

When you try to go up against a hacker:

Ra's Al Ghul's combat in this episode was outstanding. People may argue over petty details like how muscular Matt Nable is (or isn't), but he threw down hard in this fight. His movements were so swift and precise, and he made it all look so effortless. Haters gonna hate, but I thoroughly enjoyed this.

I've been exposed to "comic books" all my life. And that resurrection was the worst. As I said above, penicillin tea? Come on. They couldn't sneak Oliver into a Lazarus pit or something? Or steal a sample?

rewatching Arrow after all these years and this scene is still peak TV. It's like everyone decide to make a scene straight out of Game of Thrones the atmosphere the acting was top knotch.

This is one of those moments in tv history i can't stop rewatching.

What amazes me about this scene is that as Ra's prayed for Oliver as he drew his last breath, Oliver somehow remembered every word of the prayer for when he killed Ra's at the end of the season.

Interestingly, these are common Muslim prayers, i.e. to ask for the deceased to be spared from the Punishment of the Grave and the torment of the Fire. Not the best pronunciation by the actor, but a thoughtful choice by the writers.

i did not expect this but its one of the most badass fights i ever seen without hollywood bias.

This episode brought tears to my eyes

In its early days, this show was truly something special. The only complaint I ever had about this scene was Oliver’s choice of weaponry. Dual wielding is obviously not his strength and he is too smart to not know that. It was immersion breaking to see him make such a poor choice.

Detail of Oliver’s scars getting red from the cold is so nice, too bad they couldn’t fix the camera angles so it’s not obvious as hell Ra’s is a stunt double

The chorography here is excellent.. Ra's had some pretty slick moves.

3:20 Admit it, when you first saw this episode years ago you thought Oliver was about to get the upperhand and win. Typical Hollywood cliche, hero fights and doesn't land a single hit, but wins the fight at the very end.

A great fight with an almost perfect ending. If Oliver had died that day Arrow would be remembered as masterpiece.

@@deathstroke5218 Actually he kinda knocked out Merlin then Merlin came back and whooped him. Only because at the top Malcom was more experienced at fighting than oliver was. But now through training with Ra's he can most definitely whoop malcom ass.

Definitely one of the greatest episodes i've seen on TV.

I love the music they use for this scene. Serene yet tragic

Most striking for me is the photography. The cold. The snow. The cliff and the bare bodies against the rock and the blades sharp steel. Got to be one of the greatest fight scenes ever.

My personal cannon is that Ra's was training Oliver as a weapon to take down Bruce Wayne.

Ra’s al Ghul was so underrated in this show. Yeah his death at the end of season 3 was a bit crap, but he was an absolute badass on screen. The words and confidence he had whilst talking or fighting Oliver here was insane. Head of the demon is a savage!!!!! Just toyed with him then made all us fans shocked by stabbing him

Matt Nable was actually a badass in real life too - as a young man he played a couple of seasons of professional top grade NRL in Australia - was a hard man by all accounts.

Man this scene was like early GoT level fun for me to watch, just everything about this hit perfectly, it was so great that when Oliver went back to his normal setting around his normal friends, I knew it could never match up. The prayer of safe passage was the cherry on top, though personally I felt he should have addressed it to Kalahira. (Cookies for knowing THAT reference)

I remember watching this and not being able to submerge myself in the fight because of Ra's CLEAR stunt double getting so much camera time! CLEAR AF CAMERA TIME LMAO

First 3 seasons were great, next 2 were watchable, afterwards I've never seen a show become so bad. It got bad when everyone knew he was the Arrow, and when the B team came along.

@@RandomGuy285 Depends on how you grab the blade. Knights used to sometimes grab their sword by the blade and kill the enemy with the pommel if the need arose. If Ra's has enough practice (which he certainly does) he could slow the blade as he grabbed it with the correct part of his hand (that's not what is shown on the show though, the actor grabs it the wrong way).

If Arrow ended on this fight alone, it would've been immortalized as a GOAT series.

This scene is so damn slick. I never watched a single episode of Arrow. I know only of Ra's Al Ghul through Batman begins. Now, I think I'm gonna go back and look at what I am missing. Thank you for these tid bits you online...You got my like and sub.
