So you are looking for a new 2WD short course truck but unsure what to go for?
Well there are two main options to consider in my opinion and they are the Traxxas Slash 2wd and the Arrma Senton Boost 4x2!
But hang on you may be thinking why Traxxas and ARRMA when there are also some great options out there from Team Associated, HPI, FTX and Maverick?
True those guys do have some great options too but when it comes to parts and aftermarket support nothing beats a Traxxas or an Arrma! You can walk into any LHS and you will find the bits you need.
They are two of the biggest names in RC especially when it comes to bashing which is why today we will be focusing on these two!
We will take an in depth look at each of these trucks today and hopefully by the end of this video you will be able to decide which one you may want to go for!

    There is no way to go wrong here- both GREAT trucks. I started YEARS ago with a brushed 2wd Slash... now I have many trucks/cars. We mostly do pavement driving- so my current favorite is my Traxxas Bandit VXL- its a BEAST- REALLY fast, fun to drive. Rustler 4wd is great(my fastest car), 4wd Slash is my best dirt car, and my Losi Minis are amazing- really good starter cars. I'd just say get what you can afford, start the hobby- it's FUN!

    I appreciate the video, I am looking at the Slash & Senton for a beginner's purchase. I watched your other videos on the Senton and they were informative. But theres something cool looking with that Traxxas Slash. I like the ability to have better control over the car, as well as speed. I'm going to do a little bit more research on the 2, I do like that parts a readily available for both. Right now, I'm leaning Slash.... thx

    Just ordered a senton 4x2 a few days back. I already have a track setup slash 2wd and a Granite 3s blx for bashing. I was in search of a possible candidate for making a rally build and thought the senton would fit right in. I'm planning on keeping it 2wd and going brushless, so I'll have to figure out a way to keep the rear end a bit more planted (battery relocation?). Awesome video, take care!

    Not sure how the senton is i have a slash and ive been always impressed with the durability and handling no matter how much power i throw at it, this thing has been through everything, ive had it for 5 years and it started just as this one, just a stock brushed slash, eventually made it brushless for some power was a great basher and took everything i did to it as a 9 year old, after a year or 2 got bored of bashing it and stuck a $250+ castle setup with a lcg chassis and drag raced it and it took it amazingly, its been like that for a while but just recently around a year ago ive converted it to a racing machine on clay. It has a hobbywing quicrun 120amp esc, turnigy trackstar 13.5t motor, budget $50 power hobby servo, aluminum hubs front and rear, jconcepts hf2 body, the lcg chassis, flysky radio, proline screw on body posts, and it takes it all, after all these years ive never even broke a arm, and now im 14 and this truck is still teaching me new things to this day, never driven a senton so i cant say much about it but ive had a 3s typhoon for about a year and no complaints about that either, just strip something in the rear diff every once in a while but i bash it hard.

    I think the Slash has been around longer than 2008. I do remember Robbie Gordon (an American racer both in Baja - so dessert trucks etc as well as on road racing) being sponsored by Traxxas and then shortly after wards Traxxas Slash brought out bodies featuring his nam / and paint job copying his actual race trucks. He’s also raced in the Dakar rally hence why you sometimes see bright orange Slash shells on social media. The Slash was inspired by the TORC™ (THE Traxxas Off-Road Championship™) again a series sponsored by Traxxas - specifically the Pro 2WD class. The Pro 2WD class specifies rear-wheel drive trucks purpose built to fly over jumps and rip full-throttle through the turns. The handling of the 2wd slash is to replicate the real life short course trucks and how they handle / behave. If you search vids of those you’ll see the Slash in a new light. I’d def recommend checking out Ultimate RC’s video on the 2wd Slash where he explains the wayward handling is done on purpose. The real life truck isn’t a smooth track specialist but designed to go off road, lean a lot etc. It’s worth noting that if one wants to, one can get a low center of gravity chassis to help address this as not everyone likes the wayward handling / not everyone can get used to it…in America they race these but I suspect many use the LCG chassis for this exact reason. It’s also worth noting the shell has been designed to give a parachute effect - rubbish for speed runs on the ground as it is so draggy, but in the air the scoops of the wheel wells help to act as a parachute thus making the truck hang in the air - its more for the look but it does help controlling the car in the air. Right about the back catalogue. Many have turned the Slash into crawlers, Monster Trucks and even +100mph speed machines (way before the off the shelf RTR speed machines became popular). Def a great machine and brilliantly easy to work on for newbies as everything is well laid out and easy to get to. Just glad I got mine for under £200 and that included turning it brushless about a year after first getting it. It’s a bit sad that the new bodies dont feature the paint jobs and decals of the actual real life trucks they’re based on but then I guess Traxxas may not sponsor individual drivers any more , but more so sponsor off road races. Still its worth checking old Robbie Gordon videos / Short Coure Truck Racing, the TORC series to give you an idea of what the Traxxas Slash (and since then other makes) based their truck on.

    Ok, So i own a slash 2wd, very modded running 3s, and also own a granite (conv to 4wd) also running 3s. And in my experience, the granite is the more durable truck by a decent margin. There's been times where the slash has crashed travelling between 25-35mph ish and crippled the suspension. However landing the arrma on the front bumper after a 20ft drop after a jump is fine and it drives off freely. In my opinion, if u r looking for a 2wd car to drive as 2wd, the slash wins all day, the aftermarket parts options are unmatched by any other rc car. HOWEVER, if u are looking for a general basher, the Arrma boost range cannot be beaten.

  • @VestedUTuber

    @VestedUTuber

    5 ай бұрын

    Ok, I want to know how you managed to crash an SCT in a way where whatever it hit bypassed the body and hit the suspension. To note, I'm not saying the Slash specifically should be more durable than the Granite, I'm saying that full-bodied SCTs are typically more durable _in general_ than open-wheel cars due to the body acting as a crash bumper. I have a Losi 8IGHT 2.0 and a Losi TEN-SCTE, about as close as you can get in regards to platforms short of grabbing a L8IGHT and doing an SCT conversion on it, and I've had more breaks with the beefier 8IGHT 2.0 than with the TEN-SCTE. Granted, that's comparing one or two breaks to zero, but still.

    Separate esc and receiver means nothing mate all down to the gearing on these brushed setups with the 12t motors. Both in the 20-25mph range I would say. Slow speed sometimes turns people away which is why i didn’t include the speeds. Way more to these trucks than speed which again is something I wanted to promote as you have to see beyond the speed limitations, cheers mate 👍👍

    Alot of ppl are gonna say the slash because its been around for over 10 years. So the senton you can upgrade to 4x4 for $50, but the slash you would need probably $200+ in parts (basically a whole new truck) to make it 4x4. Smart move Arrma.

  • @VestedUTuber

    @VestedUTuber

    5 ай бұрын

    Only thing I want to say is that what ARRMA is doing isn't the norm, and there's a reason why we don't do things like that. A longitudinally mounted motor can induce torque steer. Now, the base-level equipment these cars have won't have much of an effect but once you start upgrading them it drastically increased the effects of torque steer. A 4WD car can handle that but in a 2WD car too much torque steer can cause the car to become unstable under hard acceleration. As a result the Slash doesn't need to be upgraded to 4WD to handle more power, but beyond a certain point the Senton does. Still, as far as modularity and parts support goes, ARRMA's choice to make a 2WD version of their 4WD SCT platform by simply omitting the front driveline is a smart move. It'll bring cost of entry down since that means less tooling going around, and it makes it easier to find parts.

  • @VestedUTuber
    @VestedUTuber5 ай бұрын

    "When it comes to parts and aftermarket support nothing beats a Traxxas or an ARRMA" This... is a self-fulfilling statement. If you want parts support for other brands, buy those other brands' cars and get your buddies to do the same, hobby stores aren't going to carry parts there's no demand for. Associated, Losi and HPI used to be up there alongside Traxxas and ARRMA for parts support, but various circumstances (many of them caused by Traxxas's tendency to try and choke their competition out of the market through litigation and "percentage of total sales" dealer quotas) have since chased those brands away. In short, the fact that only those two brands have such widespread parts support is actually a bad thing, not for the vehicles themselves but for the hobby as a whole. It's created an effective duopoly in what used to be a very diverse market.

Both have telescopes drive shaft, but the dlash are more durable the granite will withstand but the plastic is more soft. The transmission on the slash my hold even 4s without breaking. Senton you need to add some weights on the rear to increase the grip. The other problem with Senton the aftermarket parts are more expensive vs slash

You get durability right out of the box where as Traxxas needs further purchases of upgrade parts to bring it to an Arrma stock grade. In the end, it costed me more $ to upgrade my Traxxas vehicles than just buying an Arrma that is rugged right out of the box. This has been my experience of course. The slash is a classic super durable RC short course truck. Hard to believe the design is near 2 decades old. Makes me wonder why it took so long for other brands to catch up. The slash in its many forms must be the best selling rig for traxxas. That said, it is time for traxxas to revamp the slash with at least a more scale body and features like the 1/7 scale trophy truck. And arrma, make a TT body that is at least not hideous. The Mohave is one of the best basher around but it is so ugly you are missing out on sales. Humans are so visual, many buyers don't think about just buying a body and making the Mohave perfect, they just buy the best looking rig and are stuck with a poorly designed chassis. But live and learn, both of these rigs are high quality and durable so you can't go wrong. But that isn't always the case.
