We are aboard the Norwegian Escape on a transatlantic or repositioning cruise from New York City to Rome.
Our ship has arrived in Lisbon, Portugal on day 10 of our European vacation.
We are excited to see this port for the first time and explore Lisbon. We booked a shore excursion called Scenic Drive of Lisbon. Our plan was to take the shore excursion then walk around the center of town. We thought we would have time to do both. However, the timing of the excursion did not go according to plan. We were delayed by many hours of waiting before we were able to start exploring Lisbon.
We wanted to taste the local food, but we had no time to visit any of the restaurants or cafes in port. Since we are photographers, we chose to take photos. Let's say we were hungry during port days.
In hindsight, we should not have booked a shore excursion at this port. The Scenic Drive would be a good option for those who prefer not to walk too much.
Next time, hopefully there is a next time, we would just walk and explore Lisbon by foot to the center of town along the water.
After this excursion, we decided to prioritize what we wanted to see the most in any of our future ports and make sure to do that first. It's hard to pick one thing to do when it's a bucket list location. We realized, we don't have much time and we can't see and do everything by cruising.
I am traveling with a first time cruiser with so many questions especially when it was our first time taking a shore excursion. We were both very confused and hungry.
Next, we will be arriving in Cadiz, Spain. We are excited to see Cadiz for the first time.
