Greenwood's THERE WILL BE BLOOD was DQ'd because of the use of Greenwood's 'Popcorn Superhet Receiver' and 'Bodysong' and works from Arvo Pärt and the Violin Concerto in D by Johannes Brahms.
a movie i thought i saw, then realized I actually saw it when i watched it again
Villeneuve seriously saving science fiction and getting it back on the map with bangers back to back from this to then Blade Runner 2049 is insane to after that made Dune, truly is the GOAT right now along aside Nolan and Ridley Scott
This whole movie I was wondering when Hawkeye would pull out his bow and arrow but I got pulled in by the beautiful cinematography.
I love science fiction that extends science (language enables thinking) into science fiction! It turns movies into adventurous exploration. (I agree that you have to replay the time sequence in your mind to get the full picture - just like a real life).
Haven’t watch Arrival yet but it for sure on my watchlist now. Thanks guys keep up the good work👍

Dew it!
Arrival discussion leads to Dune discussion not just because of Denis but because Louise is a Kwizats Haderach and they touch on very similar topics.

SHE IS THE SHORTENING OF THE WAY
Densi a modern day 🐐 fr. If only we had gotten Dune 2 this month 😔
If arrival had an origins movie it would be called “chill bro I’m leaving now we have time”
Came for the movie poster contest, stayed for an intellectual analysis of a modern classic

I love this film and the director is one you want to do all the projects right now.. that said, these non linear time subjects always have the paradox stigma because Louise would have known about all of this and already knew what to do if she, in the future knew the language and could experience time non linear??? It's such a brain buster but it's like she would have already been in the know of all of this because her future self is? Maybe would have made more sense her being in an insane asylum at the beginning because of her abilities?! Haha my brain hurts I'll just enjoy the movie for what it is damn it. 😅
Such an amazing movie. This is a movie that I wish I could watch for the first time again. Dennis is a genius.

10/10 Villeneuve movie!!
House favorite of ours. The soundtrack too - I play it often when writing
Arrival is one of THE most beautiful films ever created!
This will always be a favorite film of mine. A true masterpiece through and through. Thanks for the wonderful deep dive, Raiders! 💖

38:09 I like the fact that Col. Weber is clearly not some meathead, but one, as someone who's pretty level-headed, who appreciates intelligence. He can be somewhat abrasive, but he's right to note to prof. Banks that he needs to dumb down and condense her findings to digestible information for his COs, who, as this film points out, can probably only think in the language of aggression and escalation. 42:22 I teared up a bit when I saw that scene the first time. It's so humanistic (speciestic?) and beautiful! 49:00 It was absolutely criminal that Amy Adams wasn't nominated for the Oscars Best Actress.

Amazing breakdown! Loved it!
Been meaning to watch this! Keep getting tiktok videos of it 🤣🤣🤣
Commenting from the boys episode. Love the pod! Need that infinity war poster 😆
Your description of Louise's "choice" is a controversial one among the more scientific, cosmologically-minded set. Even the author of the novella doesn’t believe in free will but instead insists on everything in what we think of as the future being as fixed as everything in what we think of as the past. It was the screenwriter and director who insisted on a "choice" for its dramatic value. Villeneuve's treatment of "Arrival" is, I think, best seen as a dress rehearsal for his "Dune": in the latter (which Frank Herbert did write with a kind of "many worlds" universe in mind), Paul DOES have choices that CAN determine which potential future paths will come about, but gaps in his ability to fully anticipate the future end up making him a prisoner of "fate" like everybody else. (BTW, I'd hold on a final assessment of "Dune": it's half a story from the first book so far and you won't get the full modern Greek tragedy of the Atreides until he makes at least "Dune Messiah" (to cap off a trilogy) and, arguably, "Children of Dune", for the tetrology.)
Commenting for the contest!
I bought the Blu-Ray last month and I've watched it twice since then. Definitely one of my favorites!

Top 3 Denis film🔥
Great review. I need to watch this movie again, I forgot how good it was. I’d be curious to hear a review from both of you on Spielberg’s, War of the Worlds 👽

Would love to do that one!
I think villeneuve deserves more appreciation, he's very underrated for his movies like Prisoners and Incendies, i mean those were some masterpieces he gave.

I think right now he’s actually incredibly adored by the film community. Average audience may still not know his name like a Chris Nolan though
You guys are seriously great with these breakdown discussions.
