How Amy didn't get an oscar for this always boils my blood. She gave the best performance by an actor of 2016 and the academy gives it to Emma??? I love Emma but she doesn't come close to the talent that Amy has or gave in this film. This scene always brings me to tears

@@MFM230 I know this comment is a year old, but they were referring to Emma Stone, who won that year for LaLaLand. For what it's worth, I think the newest Emma film is actually pretty nice; it's not remarkable or revolutionary but really enjoyable.

I remember being in the theater when Jeremy Renner said “you were married?” and a couple of people in the theater gasped. I immediately started crying because I realized that the girl wasn’t in the past but the future.

I don't recall now how many times that I have watched the entire movie; I imagine it will be roughly equal to the number of times that I will watch it in the future. One thing is constant. I will continue to be enriched by the viewing experience. These short film clips each give me a reminder of just what an incredible film this is in total. Villeneuve is masterful in his direction. The music is transformative. The cinematography is surreal, and the acting. Oh, the acting! Those who have written that this movie deserved consideration for "best" in so many categories are on the mark.

This is where she starts - just starts - to realize that as she learns the heptopod language, she's also starting to perceive time the way they do, in a spherical fashion (since they think not in terms of linear algebra but three dimensions). This is a part of one possible future, but all possible futures lead to the same inflection point at the other side of the sphere - the death of her daughter from a rare cancer. Amy did a fantastic job with getting pathos out of a scene both deeply weird and deeply tragic.

I don't know all you feel or think, but I had a niece who died when she was two years old. I was so angry at God. She was a marvel, she couldn't talk but she could communicate, and have peace, and show pain, and patience. And then she was gone. I was so angry at God. I thought and thought and prayed, but couldn't pray for protection, i didn't believe in it. For years. Then i thought of Christ's death. If God had just sat in heaven and said 'you messed up, now you hurt,' i would have stopped caring about good, or God, i would've just said 'well nothing matters, that much is clear,' 'it's a big random universe and there's this tiny spark of life on earth and it's not worth troubling over, joke's on us.' But God sent His own Son to hurt with us. That helped me. I knew that whatever reason there is for my niece dying, it wasn't because God didn't care. He hurts with us. That's what i understand.

@@Mannaggialtubo She accepted her suffering. She knew that she could not decide because her fate was already set; she had to have Hannah in order to be the changing force within the alien crisis. Although Luise had no idea who Hannah was for the most of the movie, these flash-forwards guided her. I see this as her sacrifice. She was this selfless because she knew what was coming. Ultimately, there is value in all of life, even the life short lived. It is up to you to decide. Most people do not choose the emotional difficult action. Or it is not a selfless sacrifice because she just played the role in the story/destiny that was put on her (I mean Luise, not the actor Amy). Ultimately, she had to carry Hannah and see her die in order that the alien language can save humanity and the aliens themselves. I cried in the first scenes as Hannah died. And I cried again as it was apparent that Luise was this loving that she suffered. But maybe this is too far fetched for you.
