@@lumpyspaceloki5075that’s just the trailer, plus making it dramatic makes people more likely to watch it. Anyway I prefer the English version, it allows you to take in all the visuals without having to constantly look at the subtitles to understand what they are actually saying

The voice acting is so much more befitting for a cartoon in the original Japanese too. American voice acting for huge studio films is always done by Hollywood actors and it completely removes the sense of magic.

I don’t understand Japanese, which is why I watch the UK version. That way I can take in the visuals without having to look at the subtitles every 5 seconds to understand what’s being said

I feel a sequel would just ruin it honestly. Maybe a prequel though with Sho’s mother as a child as it’s mentioned that she also saw “little people” when she was younger

studio ghibli always makes such compelling trailers and this is no exception. An amazing directorial debut from Yonebayashi Hiromasa, gives me high hopes for the future.

スピラーの指の数え方が二進法だと知って、今更ながら衝撃を覚えてる 初見の時はしぐさや指の形が独特過ぎて微笑ましかったけど、実は相当頭が良いんじゃ 二進法なら5本指で31まで数えられる。スピラーの差した指は「22人」（小指を下位ビットとする）

You should read the books The Borrowers which inspired this film. The Borrowers is set in England though not in Japan

I think there was a translation hiccup "I don't think every human bean is dangerous." Last I chequed we were not in the Fabaceae family.

One of the rare animes that made me tear up in the end. Studio Ghibli always delivers..

The UK version is fantastic. The JP just as good. However, I only had to watch the US trailer to start hating it. I mean, Sho's voice is way to mature. He's 12! Plus the music in the trailer plays a track completely unrelated to the film unlike the UK and JP with Cecile Corbels original tracks. I love the music so much I bought the album. Rant over :)

hi, the ending was very sad.... I didn't sleep full night thinking about sho...whether he recover his health or not...whether he ever met Arrietty again or not..please let me know whether there is another part of this movie? I desperately want to know what happen after she left sho..

In the English dub, he survived. But the Japanese and the UK dub, I'm not sure. I think there were rumors his operation was not successful.

One thing that the crew of Ghibli Studios learned before Hayao Miyazaki retired is that the characters in Ghibli movies never come out the same way they started. All the characters tend to go through a drastic change, be it physical, psychological or emotional. Someone can die, their perception can change, but one thing that's always consistent through all Ghibli Films is that the main characters tend to learn and grow from these events that change them. If everything ended perfectly, that wouldn't be the realistic ending they want, and the world they immerse you in would lose it's fantastical nature.

It's amazing how different the feel of this trailer is to the English dub one. The magic and tone of the movie is much stronger here, the other trailer just feels distand and one-dimensional..

In Australia we got to choose whether to see the Dub or Japanese sub they were both an option at the theatres.

深い緑と色鮮やかな夏の草花、虫の音色、水、液体の表現が素晴らしい✨(アイビーの葉っぱが可愛い！) 翔との淡い恋を角砂糖で表現？してるのが良いですね！

When I saw the US trailer and that Disney was involved I was worried: "Ghibli Studios, what have they done to you!?" Then I saw this and thought "puh It's all good now"

I watched it today. A very beautiful and soothing movie but it succeed in making my blood boiled at the housekeeper. Also the ending left me with mixed feeling, but I'll take it as an open ending tho. 10/10 ❤️

CGI films just feel cheap nowadays. Literally every good film has to have a crappy CGI “remake”. Of course there are good CGI films like Pixar films

@alphamone Really? I understand Japanese, but there is no pun in the use of human here. She just literally says "I don't think every human is dangerous." There is a pun in the use of "the Borrower" though. In the Japanese title, it is called "Kari Gurashi No Arrietty", meaning "the Borrower Arrietty". But in Japanese "to borrow" and "to hunt" are pronounced in the same way. So when she borrows something, it sounds as though she goes to hunt something. So there is a pun there.

Never knew that Sho is 12 yrs. old, I thought he and Arrietty were of the same age...now I know

I'm not Japaneese but I like this version better.

I say Ghibli did A WONDERFUL JOB. However, if it wasn't for Disney, we would hear the REAL UK DUB. THE ONE THAT STARTED AT ALL.

Same (sort of) since I watched it at an after school film club at primary school, but I had already watched the Pokemon TV series which I only realised a couple years ago was an anime

I first saw the movie in chinese a long time ago and I was really touched even if I was just a kid (I know no one cares)

@goupanddown I am not sure why the subtitles say “human bean”. It sounds like someone mistranslated and everyone started using it because people use that mistranslation as a reference. If there is an underlying pun there, I would also like to know what that is.

The ending was terrible. 1) Arriety leaves Sho alone right before he has to have heart surgery (he already misses his family) 2) They leave for no good reason because they could live together (Sho's aunt seems interested in those little people + Sho is friends with them anyway) It does not make sense at all

When "Arrietty" comes out on Disney DVD or Disney Blu-Ray, I expect to hear that it will have the UK dub included, or else I'm not buying it. The UK dub of "Tales From Earthsea" is on Disney DVD, but ARRIETTY??????!!!!! The UK and Australian release of "Arrietty" had the UK dub, but Disney didn't go with it. And by the way, who finished their dub first? THE UK!!! :) THE UK WINS!!!! Sorry Disney, but you came too late.

@Wolfwindru Even though I'm not Japanese, I have to agree with you. I actually recognized the type of drawing style thing of this from Ponyo and Spirited Away, it was a coincidence to me that it was the exact same studio thing that made these videos. I actually had to watch the English version for both, I have no idea what the Japanese ones are saying, but I like the Japanese ones where I have to read the subtitles better.

I love the true version!!!! I don't really like Brigit Disney voice actor!! However on the bright side, it shows in theater which give and oppourtunity for more people to love anime!!! To love the movie and hopeful watch more movie by the same studio

THAT'S WHY 'ARRIETTY' (RANK #9) WAS BEATEN OUT OF THE BOX OFFICE BY "THE VOW" (#2) AND "SAFE HOUSE" (#1) THAT OPENING WEEK.

I think we all agree that JP ver is way better just quickly compared the trailer

@TheReelBitsOfficial It rings a bell as a pun for me, I believe that it is a translation of a specific Japanese pun, I think that it was explained in Azumanga Diaoh, either the anime, or ADV's release of the manga.

I get so annoyed seeing the US one in theaters with it's added pop music and off dubbing. The music in Ghibli films is always beautiful there is no substitute.

Not exactly. You may want to compare some dubs, to subs. English dubs often change dialogue to make it more Americanized. Adding words when in the Japanese version they character never said a thing.
