For those of you whom do not know/realize why "The Old Man" is there, it is because he represents the "father-figure" within the community that is Arrested Development, and while he does not sing, per-se, and does not really dance much, he is there because it is NECESSARY for him to be there, as their "father". God, why can't there be so many more groups like this in today's world?

One of the very few music groups that if not the ONLY one that exemplifies RESPECT for the elderly. Whether he sings or dances is totally irrelevant the bottom line is he's there PERIOD. AND BTW CULTURAL SENSITIVITY AND RESPECT GOES A VERY LONG WAY! To the superficial folks who thinks it's all about what you do or do not see in a performance, trying actually listening to the message and comprehending what is actually being said. Arrested Development were definitely an Innovative group of their time that not only kept it REAL and brought cultural diffusion within the industry but also delivered powerful messages, and positivity.

I don't think this was live. They pre recorded that performance and the crowd watched it on screen. They piped in fake applause. You have to remember the early 90s and 80s were basically a part of the 50s and 60s as far as race goes. They still had black specific music awards in the 80s.

Baba Oje was the group's spiritual adviser. Arrested Development has never a group to have the simplistic idea that a group member had to play an instrument or be a vocalist. Prior to when he had a stroke, he would dance and perform spoken word in the group. He was an activist for the homeless, a military veteran, a world traveler, and avid roller skater, which can be seen in the GAP commercial he was featured in. He passed away in 2018 after battling cancer.
