Cantinflas was wonderful in this movie. A favorite book and movie when I was young.
❤I loved this movie when I was a kid. We were always traveling somewhere by car in the 60s with my parents and this movie reminded me of the fun places we went. I haven't seen it in over 50 years.❤❤❤
Cantinflas was probably the main reason this movie got a lot of box office money and he literally only gets one word in the trailer!!
Theres so much nostalgia to this movie. Back when travel was unusual and exicting and there was less globalisation. These days most people associate travel with boring waits in airports, cramped flights with 2 feet of leg room, bad food and delays.

Major production colour films had been made well before 1956. If you weren't aware of it, both "Gone With The Wind", and "The Wizard of Oz" were released to the public in 1939.

There was color In old movies if the producers could afford good film, which they could. Tvs were in black in white because they were cheaper for the public.
This version is wonderful and very true to the spirit and detail of the book. Fobbs is perfect here as the calm and unflappable upper class gentleman who is often willing to delay himself in order to help someone in need yet still lives a life of perfect routine. His valet is also very funny in a different way. The film has great comedy, a slight mystery (is Fobbs the bank thief?), romance, action and a few scary sequences (The India Saiti part is really dark). All in all though it carries itself off with such a sense of fun and life. It's a real celebration of world culture as it was in the 1870s, it also has an optimistic feel that the world is shrinking and life is getting better for people. It's one of those films you just walk away from smiling.

@@RS-28407yes it wasn't as complimentary about America when he gets there, everything is very brash and big and loud and Fobbs as the perfect gentleman isn't in his comfort zone.

I understand movies are movies and books are books, but I find sad that after 150 years we still don't have a serious, faithfull transposition of this book as Verne wrote it.
@VernusFilm
Exactly! All the adaptations of this multi-layered adventure drama story by Jules Verne are extremely superficial and have only been made to make them as fun and easy as possible. An excellent animated series was an exception, but I think there would be a huge potential for a really serious but still fascinating adventurous story.

@@VernusFilm I recently read there is an other one coming, starring David Tennant (which I love), but I didn't get very well the setting, seemed to me that it will be setted in the contemporary world. Not sure but again, it won't make any sense, cause today you can go around the world in like 25 hours or something, so, I don't know... it's sad, we are asking too much maybe.

was surprised when I read a synopsis of the book to learn there doesn't appear to be a hot air balloon anywhere in the book; just a lot of railroads and steamboats. Then, I notice in the trailers that the balloon doesn't seem to have a heat source; not sure what makes it fly!
It novel was included in my syllabus when i was in school. this is reason, i am now fond of reading novels.
