Was extremely interesting to learn about them. The - Army Astronaut - Combat Diver - Military Freefall - EOD Badges have to be my favorite.

YES...The Air Assault Badge! Earned mine at Ft Campbell, 1996. Wish I could have attended Pathfinder school, however, my unit didn't require the use of Pathfinders. Very few soldiers in my unit went to Air Assault School. The Air Assault Badge does not get the respect, it should get. Sling loading training came in handy.

Got mine in ‘97 at Fort Campbell. Tried out for the Pathfinder unit there, but sucked at running.

I showed up at basic training wearing the basic airborne wings. First NCO to see this tried to get in my face. I simply said “prior service”. Then I produced the DD Form 214 showing on first tour I graduated the course. Then, they took pride that one of their trainees was already Airborne.

How would you go to airborne before going to basic training? Not calling you a liar but I have never heard of this. The Army doesn't make you retake basic training from different branches. I had to go through Marine boot camp as a prior Corporal in the Army though.

I am always proud of my CIB and my Parachutist Badge all first awards. Getting those two are always the hardest and always the firsts to remember them for the rest of my life. I can only be a young soldier once to proudly earn them once at the cost of my life. Both of these badges have almost cost me both injury or death to get them as a soldier. I proudly keep both...

Interesting and well presented. Interesting note about Foreign Badges, reminds me of a fellow a knew of who was a US NAVY EOD NCO early in Iraq War. He was assigned to a US ARMY unit for most of his tour, and was awarded a US ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL. He was authorized to wear both the Army and the Navy Commendations, at least in those days.

You can wear both awards. I have an was authorized to wear awards from Navy, Army, South Vietnam, and German Military. The awards from Germany had to be authorized by Congress,

My father was a Para from 42-57. When he joined the CDN forces he had to qualify for his jump wings. The instructor asked him how jumps he had. “About 750” he said. “You should be teaching the course” was the reply.

The Army decorations on the uniform gives Christmas trees a run for there money…

I, have the basic Airborne badge, the Combat Action badge and the Master EOD badge all bought at the PX and not earned in 20 years of service.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge in this video. I have a sweet friend named Mike who has served in the US army or law enforcement throughout his years. Someday I may get to say hello to him again.

I learned something myself on this presentation. However you kinda skated over the EIC Badges and the Distinguished Badges. I have the bronze EIC for pistol but did not earn enough "leg" points to obtain the Distinguished Pistol, which requires 30 "leg" points total. It generally it takes a number of years to obtain the actual gold distinguished badge. You are limited to shooting only 3 (competition bullseye) "leg matches" a year, fired with a accurized service weapon of .45 caliper. The trigger pull is set at 4 lbs, and the ammo is issued at the time of the match and must be .45 caliper hard ball (combat load) fired at bullseye targets. This match is separate from the normal pistol competition matches. The slow fire is shot at 50 yards, single handed aiming. The timed and rapid fire sequence are shot at turning targets located at 25 yards. Also, the pistol is held by one hand while aiming. The top 10 percent of any group are awarded "leg" points after the match. The person who scored the most points in the competition is awarded 10 "leg" points, with all others receiving 6 "leg" points. The person must (over time) acquire at least 30 "leg" points to be issued (you can't buy these medals at the PX) the medal. They come with a set of orders authorizing you to wear the medal . "For expert display of marksmanship skill with the service pistol (rifle)". One other medal in this group not mentioned at all. On the far left of the distinguished medals was the International distinguished badge. For that qualification you must place: First, second or third in some international rifle or pistol event such as: Olympics, Pan American Games, or World Championship. Then you are issue the International distinguished badge with no other qualification needed. I chased the badges for 4 years while I was assigned to an Army Marksmanship Unit. The best time in my life. My only assignment was to show up at the range and practice with our unit and then shoot pistol matches every weekend. We traveled a lot and were TDY the whole way. It was such great fun, everybody got along. I wish I could go back and do it all over again, but I can't . I am of course long retired but still shoot at targets but no longer compete. However.... you never know. I might show up one of these days. hi. Mike Malloy

Realized how mush stuff is on the Army Uniform when i graduated Jump School at Ft Benning. Being a Marine i graduated in my Wool Greens which is pretty plain, but Army Soldiers looked like Generals with ropes, badges and all sorts of stuff.

I earned my parachutes badge in 74 and Expert Infantry Badge in 76. I was at Ft. Bragg NC..3/335...Blue Falcon...Airborne All The Way!

There are no soldiers on active duty with more than 2 CIB or CFMB awards. The CIB is only earned by Soldiers in infantry or SF MOS. Senior and master parachutists also need to grad jumpmaster school. All special skill badges (Ranger, airborne, etc.) awarded by the VN government were rescinded in the 80's. At that time, foreign badges of any type were no longer authorized on the BDU type uniform.

The only way somebody could have three CIB's are those that were in WW-2, Korea and Vietnam. No current active solders can do this. You would be over 90 years old if you had them.

@@shrapmagnet : It could not be the GWOT. The average length of a career in the US Military is 23 years. The GWOT started in 2001. The Korean War ended in July 1953. That's 48 years difference. The maximum length of service is 35 years. 1950 + 35 = 1985. The GWOT started in 2001. Remember September 11, 2001? That would make a term of service of 51 years. Nope not gonna happen. Please don't argue. I spent 7 years active US Army service.

If you served in Panama, and/or Desert Storm, an 11B soldier is qualified to wear the appropriate award in reference to the CIB. example: ( Panama,1or1st award,- Desert Storm,2nd award.)

@@JeromeAJodis Not true. Just Cause (Panama) and Desert Storm both fall under "VN and other operations"- 1 March 1961- 31 March 1994. 1 per customer. The next period began 18 Sep 2001- "to be determined". If a 11 series or 18 series Soldier was awarded the CIB during "VN and other operations" and qualified for the CIB again post- 18 Sep 2001, he would be authorized the second award (CIB w/ star). Look up the regulation.

Very informative! Question: Is there a Radio Operator skill badge for WW2? My father was trained as an Auto Mechanic in Fort Normoyle, Texas and was trained as a Radio Operator 766 at GHQ in Australia, but he also mentioned in Georgia assuming it was at Fort Benning.

CIB, EIB and Parachutist Badge. Not too bad for 4 years of service. 89-93 Have to say, the EIB was the hardest to earn. Airborne school was just over coming fear. CIB was just luck of the draw. But those were the days before the liberals got that hands on the military.

They told me go army surplus for metals. After getting out nam. Got them later from st Louis

That's a lot more than I remember from when I joined the Army in 1973.

If you joined The Infantry and they sent you to Fort Polk and Tiger Land one of the first things you will learn is the history of The CIB because mostly all of the people who will be putting you through hell will be wearing one!

I never got the grasp on the Jungle Expert Tab. I attended Jungle School Training as a Door Gunner in Panama in the 1990s. The instructors said, we were authorized to wear the Jungle Expert tab. I got transferred to a Combat Support Battalion (CSB) when the Aviation Unit was inactivated. The Battalion Sergeant Major of the CSB unit, had a fit, when he saw me wear my Jungle Expert Tab (Which, we wore in my Aviation Unit). That Battalion Sergeant Major of the CSB unit, said I wore it, to make soldiers in his unit look bad. So I had to take it off my uniform. smh

need help in proper placement and wearing of a miniature ranger special forces basic parachutist and EIB along with mini medal awards on a tuxedo for a formal military event

My DD214 shows Expert with M-14 and M-16 and think there are different bars authorized for those? What companies would help and make display of my medals, ribbons and awards? and last question how do I find what unit awards I can display (think we got several while in combat in Vietnam 1967-1968 9th Infantry). Each weapon had it’s own bar. As well as grenades, The bars were worn attached to the corresponding level of Qualifying badge.

Request a video on USAF badges, which are confused with skill badges. But they are equivalent to branch insigina of the Army.

You have the master aircrew and senior aircrew badges mixed up.The second badge you identified as master aircrew should be senior aircrew badge. Likewise the senior aircrew should be the master aircrew badge. It should go as aircrew, senior aircrew, and master aircrew badges. Keeping you straight that’s all!

I had the EIB

I made the mistake of not getting my DD214 corrected at Ft. Lewis when discharging and they didn't put my CAB. I could care less but the VA seems to not give me the correct rating without them. I received 2 in Iraq but I believe you can really only be awarded 2 from 2 different campaigns, is this right?

Can only receive one for service in Iraq or Afghanistan due to them being under the global war on terror.

Since it is an ID badge ( and rare) it does not have a class rating like Army skill badges.

The only army in the world that i know of that you can buy your medals and ribbons in the P X.

The CAB did not come into existence until Operation Iraqi Freedom, it is not retroactive to Operation Desert Storm. The CIB on the other hand is a second award period between Desert Storm and OIF/OEF. So there are NO second awards of the CAB authorized yet, it does not matter how many tours are completed in OIF/OEF.

those are parachute insignia backgrounds, red for example indicates an artillery unit, different airborne and special forces have different flashes ..when worn behind the parachute badge it indicates active airborne status in that unit or branch.

So how do you determine when to wear ribbons in rows of 3, as opposed to rows of 4

It is really a personal choice

In what case would a CIB be awarded a second, third, etc? Does the recipient have to see combat in a second theater/operation? Are Iraq and afghanistan seen as 2 different theaters in the same "war on terror" ? Were the rangers awarded the CIB after Mogadishu?

The only way somebody could have gotten three CIB awards is if you were in WW-2, Korea and Vietnam. My guess you were a young 18 year old Private in WW-2, a buck Sargeant in Korea, and, a Command Sargeant's Major in Vietnam.

The Military Mountaineer Badge is technically a National Guard badge, similar to State issued awards. It falls under AR 670-1, para 22-13 as a State issued badge and is not authorized for wear in uniform except as provided in DA Pam 670-1 for ARNG Soldiers in their State status.

Only the US Army has these badges. When the US Air Force separated from the US Army in 1947. The Air Force brass was bound and determined not to have a bunch of awards. So much for badge elimination. The Air Force now has a bunch of skill badges. Still not as much as the Army. The one to watch is the new US Space Force. They are developing a line of unique badges too.

The President's 100 badge was shown with the Jungle Warfare School badge. That school was in Panama when I was in. There was a Brigade sized unit at that time. Now located at Fort Polk.

Old soldiers move slow these days because they’re weighed down by their massive balls.

Greetings Sir. While I respect your site and opinions and how you lay out the service awards and badges, Please do not associate the EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and ESB (Expert Soldier Badge) as similar and on the same level of training and respect. The EIB has too much history and respect to be breezed over and compared with the ESB. A not too happy badge protector...Thank you.

It's spelled Schutzenschneer. I got one while training with a German Mountain Regiment in the Alps. I also have a French Commando Badge which, back in the day, was only authorized while stationed in Europe. I also have my EIB, which was only one of two top tier badges you could get during peacetime, the other was the Expert Field Medical Badge. The was no stinking Expert Soldiers Badge back then. But, then again, I was a peacetime grunt so no real valor there.

@@thomasmotherway8169 i qualified with a rifle was a 33 handgun was a HK 45. We shot the MP5 9mm. And there version of the Saw. We also got to shoot main gun rounds out of the Leopard 2

The G3 rifle (HK91) the MG 3 machine gun (basically the old MG42, the old WWII machine gun rechambered to 7.62 NATO. The third I can honestly say I do not remember. It was more than forty years ago. The MG3 was a blast to shoot. About twice the rpm as the M60s we carried. It was in Bad Reichenall down in the Alps. The 231st Mountain Infantry Battalion (Gebirgs Jaeger). I was in the 1/26th Inf.(1st Inf. Div. Fwd), Cooke Barracks, Goeppingen.The post no longer exists.

They love their badges...they can’t cover their uniforms with enough bling.

If you can read those ribbons on the uniforms you will be quite impressed with their service all over the world. The Badges on the uniforms are difficult to earn and reflect elite units!
