Armored Core: Verdict Day Really Surprised Me...

Ойындар

After Armored Core V, the series was left in a very familiar spot. ACV had a great foundation gameplay-wise, but just about everything else outside of that was flawed. And just like I said only a couple videos ago, the Armored Core games have a long history of improving upon the base game massively in the expansions. It ended up being more than true with For Answer, so will it still hold true with Armored Core: Verdict Day? Well, let’s talk about it.
Full Armored Core Series: • A First Timer's Journe...
Armored Core: Verdict Day is a mech action game developed by FromSoftware and was published worldwide in September 2013 by Namco Bandai Games for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the 15th installment in the Armored Core series and a direct sequel to Armored Core V.

Don't forget you're not just doing the seemingly impossible feat of beating a NEXT with a regular AC, you're beating a NEXT with a junkyard frankenstein AC stitched together with glue and tape by post-apoc nomads and is smaller then the ones in 1. Be proud.

Technically gen 1 AC are smaller to equal size of gen 5. With field objects like cars that seen in the games gen 1 AC are considered around 3.5 meters tall. 6 meters if you compare it to one of the only human you meet in project phantasm. Gen 5 by official artwork are 5-6m tall. Doesn't change the fact they are held by duct tape but it's actually surprising since gen 2,3,4 and 6 are 10-11m tall.

Actually, there were "prime" 5th gen AC's, during the Great War, the period after FA, when the League were fucking off to space. The AC's in V were shit compared to them, and the canon AC is comprised of entirely new parts made.

Yes, that Is basically what happened, after the Kojima particles literally dissapear from existence and war just got More agresive the corps decided to instead of using NEXTs to fight go back to normal ACs and also because of the diference of Time (at least more than 300 years) betwen 4 and 5 almost all NEXT tecnology was destroyed and nobody cared about storing it because since Kojima particles dont exist anymore they can't build one And then when the towers appear APARENTLY (because the game dont say anything about it) the fundatiom find enought tecnology to """repair""" a NEXT and stuck some Kojima particles inside that probably we're inside the towers, anyways you know AC story Is like a puzzle so this Is just how i belive everything hapenned with the bit of info the games give

I'm glad you got to experience the joy and terror of fighting a NEXT in what is basically a suped-up normal, Chole. Speaking of the N-WG/IX, its name is literally NEXT-WHITE GLINT/9! As in, not only is VD's final boss a cobbled together ACFA White Glint model (2nd phase shenanigans included), it's also a reference to nine-ball. Like wise its pilot J, i believe is stated to be a clone of various pilots from the past, Joshua O'Brien included, who if you recall is the 1st white glint from AC4 and final boss of that game. And to top it all off, the final boss music is a remix of remember, the most popular osts from ACFA, most noticeably played during the 2nd playthrough alt mission Defend Line Ark, where instead of fighting WG with Otsdarva, you team up with Anatolia's Mercenary (ACFA's White Glint) against Collared's rank 1 who in turn brings Fragile with him!

Although Armored Core 6 is really good. Verdict Day still remains my Favorite AC Game. The AC Designs, The Lore and the Movement were the best for me. (AC6 is a close second with Gen 4 third) Though for the Multiplayer I believe the reason it died so quickly was during the time Verdict Day launched the PS4/XBOX One was right around the corner along with balancing issues. Although the Japanese side of Armored Core loved it I think if Verdict Day and Armored Core V were PS4 launch titles I think it would be more successful

In addition to my last lore comment, the fact that the final boss is a White Glint NEXT, the spirit of motherwill arms fort being present in the multiplayer, and J himself being a spliced together clone with Joshua O'Brien dna included in the batch strongly implies that the 3rd ending of ACFA "Destruction" is the canon ending for ACFA. With Strayed (the player) going on one last rampage and killing the surviving LYNX pilots who were the only ones who had a chance to stop you, your handler included who left after being disgusted with your bloodlust after destroying a cradle. After this Strayed heads off to the rest of the cradles to give them a good ol' killin' too, meaning that theres a equally strong possibility that the Towers everyones fighting for along are in fact the Cradles and the lack of NEXTS is Strayed's doing. Really makes you wonder why the Dark Raven (AC5s PC) is so revered/feared instead of a LYNX who is stated to go down as the greatest monster in human history...

Some details regarding the story: The Tale of the Dark Raven is that of ACV, and the Dark Raven is the previous player The fact that you also fight the NEXT on the Wreckage of the Motherwill also adds to the flavor The NEXT (you probably know this already) is called NWGIX/v, which stands for NEXT White Glint 9th version (there's that funny number again) Another important detail is how ACV is a retelliing of the first AC games, and make it a point about the Cyclic nature of the games' wars and "Great Destructions" The Towers are the Cradles You may have also seen the "Raid Bosses" as well, which consist of Lady in Vortex (who's one of the previous characters from 5 uploaded into it), a Suped-up Exusia fight from 5 (both versions fused into one, attacks-wise), as well as _Motherwill and a Stronger NWGIX/v._

The online for Verdict Day back when it was new was something special. Tank builds, lightweight shotgun builds, Karasawa one shot builds, builds that equipped four shields and just wanted to kick you, using the target gun and having someone equip the giga missile to ruin an entire team. On top of that there are the online only boss fights which include a rematch with final boss of AC5 and White Glint, hardcore mode which put a fun spin on a hard mode, being a mercenary for another team and doing it enough to be asked to join the Reaper Squad and ruin other players days. Heck people even do UNAC only speedruns of Verdict Day which is rather nutty to think about. Verdict Day isn't my favorite AC game but in terms of improving on the previous game it's one of the best in the series and the memories of playing it when it was new are some of the best I've had in my life. Glad the series is alive again.

Some interesting details to nerd people up on this one. Blue Magnolia is a descendant to Franny in 5 with Evergreen Family. She spread her wings and took inspiration for her own more free side from Rosarie as their emblem similarities might suggest. Blue Magnolia is voiced by your operator in For Answer, Serene Haze, or Ciliegio/Kasumi Sumika (AC4). In both games she confronted the player in her own AC with a flower in the emblem and theme. Her character is practically a reincarnation of FA's operator in this sense. Upon careful inspection you can find traces of arms forts and the Cradles in maps of Verdict Day. With online mode, you and a team can face the Spirit of Motherwill in Verdict Day in a less mobile state.

Just go in with dual rifles and a kinetic missile then wait until he using Assault Armor and he will go down easily. For 2nd phase, just glide boost constantly and keeping him in range. The rifles and missile will take care of him.

Personally my favorite of the lot, everyone else likes to rag on gen5 though. =_= Also tuning can actually make a huge difference for some weapons, for example in regards to range tunes certain Rifles such as kinfolk and isonokami would outrange sniper rifles that were tuned similarly. Not practical in any real way since the isonokami had horrid bullet speed and the kinfolk had horrid fire rate being an in-between rifle/Sniper-rifle in the first place but it let you fire regular rifles at 450~500 distances without the damage decay.

The craziest part of the N-WGIX/v fight is that not only is it a NEXT, but it's the equivalent of a super NEXT with its Primal Armor. Its Primal Armor makes it become invincible to all damage, but the side effect is that it needs to be purged every so often. First time I beat this fight, my UNAC clutched it after I died, and now, after I have fought it so many times and refined my skills in the fight, run in solo with a light AC design so I can just dodge all his attacks with massive energy regen. On a side note, the fight is way harder playing on 60fps than it is 30fps. I'm pretty sure you take double damage from some attacks at 60fps, so beating it is quite the achievement.

Gen 4 offered a speed and power fantasy other AC games don't really have. AC4 is relatively simple compared to most other AC games, however, so if you are having issue making ACs in 4/FA, it won't be any better in V/VD. But I still prefer Gen V for its aesthetics, gameplay, levels, kicking, and wall jumping.

In terms of plot I think I prefer VD but characters are about equalish. Fighting a NEXT at the end of VD was so dope but terrifying considering now you are basically a Normal unit in that boss’ eyes. Being a White Glint copy along with the Kojima particles kicking in at phase 2 to make it a timer made it more terrifying. I wish the Reaper Squad was expanded on a bit more

I think Ultimate weapons are cool. I think they were called Grind weapons under development in Gameinformer magazines. The way the HUD turns read and says warning implies that you're overloading your AC's systems as soon as you equip the weapon. I don't think any other Armored Core game does this.

No mention of Verdict Day's challenge modes? When you beat the game the first time you're able to start the campaign over with some really insane rules like penetrating hits doing double damage or repair costs going through the roof. On the subject of repairs, you can use the original "damaged" frame parts to massively reduce repair costs in exchange for low specs.

The main story, the stuff with Chief, is super solid if you do a little digging and the order missions retell the story of King Lear with an Armored Core coat of paint.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the game, though could you say if you enjoyed it any more or less than ARMORED CORE: for Answer? Armored Core: Verdict Day was the first AC game I bought, and it was a pretty rough place for me to start playing the series. Not that playing previous ones would help at all, I'm just not a fan of 5th gen. It feels like there's so much trial and error. I almost have to exclusively use powerful weapons just to bust through enemy defenses. If I would use anything below their defense, the fights drag on too long, I take more damage, run out of ammo, and have a high ammo cost. Mission areas are so small. I regularly fly out of bounds. Bosses are regularly far out of bounds. Thankfully AC6 remedied the mission area problem with solid borders. Oh, thank you FromSoftware. Praise the Sun. Plus, scan mode is really annoying. I don't like that I don't get the full potential out of my AC without constantly switching to scan mode. Is my flying dumpster AC powered by a screaming 1.6L I4 engine? Or is it powered by a hamster running on a wheel? They couldn't possibly make this a game mechanic in AC6:FoR as that would pull too many people out of the action like it did in this game. Another annoyance is how many microtransactions there are for the game. I never bought any, but they're holding back on the game's potential with the awful pay wall. As for the final boss, back in time I was regularly grinding him for money. I'm trying to figure out what build I had to not take so much damage. Maybe super light. The two things I do really like about AC:VD are One: the music. The industrial music is so noisy, fuzzy, and messy. I love it. One of my favorite soundtracks. Two: I really like the characters The Foundation, and Reaper Squad's leader J. There's so much mystery to them. I want to know more about them, and they're both excellently voice acted. Many years after playing AC:VD I bought ARMORED CORE: for Answer, and that game GREATLY improved my opinion of the franchise.

@@lesslighter You can argue that they're all similar because they have stun, but I feel like saying that is a bit facetious. In every single game prior to ACVI, stun was simply just a certain number threshold you had before a weapon would stun you for a small brief amount of time. This was simply a weapon mechanic to keep the slow firing, high damage weapons in check. It wasn't a meter at all, there's never been buildup before. VI stagger is an entirely new mechanic, and the entire game is build around it. Stagger is now the primary stat to focus on for legs and weapons, it can buildup, it's the key factor in balancing weapon types. None of this was a thing prior to ACVI.

Ah, Verdict Day. My first AC game, which I was not prepared for at all. Still, I did managed to beat it and you are right, the game's economy is brutal. Also, good tip, since you get multiple Ultimate Weapons from the last mission, sell them. Where, I will say this that you got some wrong. Humanity did not go underground. Since funny enough, the pollution from Kojima Particles was finally dispersing and disappearing for good now. Now with that tidbit out of the way, time for the full back story. So part one, Armored Core V Before is a sequel to the ACV's story. It was here that a few things that happened. Chief and Carol fought with the our character, Fran and Rosary post game. And funny enough, Chief gave our character the nickname, Dark Raven. Another is that DR, Fran, Rosary meet a man named Isaac, a weakly sick man who was under the care of deserted Men of Honor soldiers. Along with meeting a man named Ceasar. Here, the five were at one of the illusive Towers, which was telling its goals. Though during the escape, Isaac stayed behind, mostly busy ranting how humanity is a mistake. Venide would be form after their leader and AC Pilot, Ceasar, came back from the tower. Rosary and Fran went their separate ways. Rosary returning to the Men of Honor and reforming it as the Sirius Corporation. While Fran went to make the Evergreen Family, and supposedly was pregnant by our Dark Raven, though that's up in the air. Isaac was later transformed into a Phatasm, an human conscious turn AI. As for our Dark Raven, we do not know whatever happened, unfortunately. Now for the story in Verdict Day is well explained in the game, which is good for you and me. And yes, 100 years had passed between both games, correct. Though one things I'm surprise you did not note was Magnolia "Maggy" Curtis, who is granddaughter of Fran and maybe Dark Raven. She was a skilled pilot that would her grandparents proud. But she then had a run in with J, the leader of the Reaper Squad. This led head to be handicapped for two years before the start of the game. And the reason she joined with the Reaper Squad is due to the offer of Designed, if you remembered the Human Plus of Gen 5. And to pilot her AC again. Hence why she betrays you and force to fight her. Another thing to note is that the Foundation Man is hinted to be Isaac. And like Navi in AC Nexus, no one of the three factions bothered to meet with the Foundation other than been given the UNACs. Which later bit them in the ass when he triggered the virus that on purposed attacked the Three Faction. The whole Verdict War wasn't because the three factions Venide, Sirius and Evergreen, went to war. It was Isaac's decree that Humanity is unworthy to live and he gave the verdict as extinction. So while not calling you out, he still want you dead. Now for the final boss. Oh boy. I think you read the comments already. The final boss being a NEXT. And yes, it is indeed White Glint, though the Body is Type-Lahire and the Legs are 063AN. As for the name, N-WGIX, it is indeed NEXT-White Glint 9. Though the "nine" can mean a lot of things. From Nine Ball to the rank that White Glint had in FA, or 9th model. And a fun fact, you are fighting with the ruins of the Arms Fort form Armored Core For Answer, Spirit of Motherwill in the background. As for the pilot, J. Again, you may have been spoiled. It is indeed Joshua O'Brien from Armored Core 4. Now you are wondering "How does that work?" The answer is simple, if you read the artbooks. He is a Cultivater, or clones basically. Somehow a piece of DNA was saved from Joshua, which led to the creation of J. And a theory some have when Isaac/Foundation Man said that J "fought countless battlefields", suggest that J played virtual realities of his friend, Anatolia's Mercenary, and Strayed from FA of their missions. So in a weird way, AC4 and FA are games in VD. And another fact, though grim, the way J died in an explosion is the exact same way Joshua died in AC4. Oh, and a kicker about Black Glint, the final boss, Chole? That is a weaker AND stripped down version of a NEXT. You got your ass kicked by a weaker version of a NEXT for 2 hours. Let that sink in. Okay, not for the online tidibts. Shockingly, it's alive. Though barely since AC6's release killed VD's dying player base even more. Though you can still find matches in both 360 and PS3, though you have better chances on the latter than the former. I recommend joining the official AC server to organize online games. One thing that that the online had, with ACV, were online raid bosses. Yes, you heard right. As for the bosses, there is a video out there with all 7 of them. One being the Lady in Vortex, which is said to be Angie from ACV's Order Mission with the Zodiacs. Another being Exusia, which has both versions from ACV. And yes, there are two versions in that game, though one is a online boss and the servers are dead. The VD versions has both move sets. The final two online bosses that are noteworthy is a rematch with Black Glint and Spirit of Motherwill. For the rematch, you sadly do need to destroy the VOB for phase 1. Then for phase 2, Black Glint has dual energy blades that can easily kill you. As for Spirit of Motherwill, while not completed like the Death Star 2, even with 4 5th gen ACs, she can be a challenging bitch. Well, hope you liked what I had to say. Good thing Verdict Day explained the story more well and I did not had to focus too much on it. Though the back stories is just a headache. Along with crazy shit that you probably did not expect. Anyway, hope you enjoyed your time and can't wait for AC6 review. EDIT: One more thing, if you re read this again. You do play some missions set in ACV again in VD. And they all hint the game indeed took place in the ruins of the USA.

I'm not going to go keyboard warrior about AC:VD's final boss being the hardest fight you've played. I haven't played VD, so I cannot comment further than what you've provided. I would like to say your comparison between LR and VD highlights something for me that I've been saying for a long while to other people: a hard boss fight is only that; it does not mean the game is hard. A truly good, well-made, and challenging _game_ is one that demands you to use every resource at your disposal to their maximum effect. A mission that is also an endurance test that pushes the limits of your resources, those are always the best AC missions. If a game has you go into a boss fight fresh, we have to consider what all else is at play. Does it have weak spots that are difficult to hit? How hard does the boss hit? What resources are you juggling other than your own health and ammo, if any? Is the AI an input-reading scumbag? Those are the kinds of details I'd like to hear you expand upon because these are the things that tell us if the challenge is real or artificial. For example, if the boss simply a bullet sponge, then all you have is a DPS race. That's not real difficulty by any measure. It just drags out a fight. What do you think?

  • @lesslighter

    @lesslighter

    8 ай бұрын

VD's boss isnt even a bullet sponge however you waiting for the assault armor to trigger is one of the annoying parts of that mission, the thing is that J can be 2 shot by the strongest pile (you basically have enough ammo for 4 bunker shots to finish the mission in 2-3 minutes) bunkers you have in the game mastering being able to use the CE blades is a feat on itself

I had so many times i couldn't see enemy projectiles when i was fighting and it was just a mess of effects on the screen. My stats and the enemy lock on stats are all over where im shooting and it was obnoxious. Scan mode being the only way i could comfortably see my stats is ridiculous. Ill say this though. Alot of what this generation tried was incorporated into 6 much better now that ive played both to compare. Like how scanning works, the weapon swapping, certain movement actions, and the center hud were all redone and much better in my opinion. The music of verdict day though is absolutely godlike. That will always stick with me.

Verdict day made me like AC5 and it's gameplay a bit more than the last one. What I didn't like was how the shields only deflected one damage type and was weak to others. The weapon arms were nice and have their uses but the changes done to the Ultimate Weapons were terrible. Not only did they keep the annoying broken television visuals, but they made it so that after using them you completely run out of energy. Still great game though especially the UNAC system which is really deep and helped me visualize how to program path finding for ai in Unreal Engine.
