Armor Weathering with Confidence - Full Seminar at IPMS USA 2023 National Scale Modelling Convention

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This presentation was given live, 4th August 2023, at the IPMS USA Nationals in San Marcos, Texas. This discusses my weathering procedure, which I use as a general guideline to achieve confidence that I won't have bad reactions during weathering. Nobody likes ruining their finish!
We also look at the full step-by-step process on two models, to demonstrate that not every step is required on every model, and to show what products I like to use for weathering.

DISCLAIMER: I am not paid to promote any specific products or brands; I just use the products I find work best for me through my experiences. There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

    Some of this seems pretty basic, although I do like how you broke your steps down, pointing out what techniques require a gloss coat, and which do not. This is important knowledge I don't hear discussed much. There are two things I think a modeler should do in order to up his game. First, get out and look at the vehicles. There are many aspects that are apparent IRL that don't come through well in pictures. Things like road wheel rubber cracking, scratches and worn paint around hatches, rain streaks, ect. When you see a vehicle outdoors IRL you will always see rain streaks. You can hardly see these at all in pictures. My second recommendation is to always use a picture when weathering. Never go by the seat of your pants. Never ever ever.

  • @Panzermeister36

    @Panzermeister36

    10 ай бұрын

    Thank you for the comment! I do agree...I always find a photo or two to guide my project. Otherwise I find I use too many different techniques and the model's finish becomes too much. I hope that with all these 3D-printed accessories, we do get some designs with realistically cracked rubber. It's hard to achieve convincingly by just hacking some molded plastic off the wheels!
