So the aiming circle essentially aims the howitzer for you i assume? 1. Set aiming circle to magnetic north. 2. Zero it to save bearings. 3. With reference to bearing set the aiming circle to desired indirect target with given mills. 3. Save the target angle by zeroing the red angle meter. 4. Since the target angle is saved by the red meter with zero, use the black meter and orient it to the periscope. 5. The new readings on the red meter indicates the periscope, use the new red meter reading on the periscope itself (independently of course) 6. You essentially replicated the arrangements of the aiming circle with the howitzer and all you have to do now is... 7. Orient the barrel until the periscope faces the aiming circle and account for error.

Pretty much yes..here you see visulaized: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKh_t8SzZt28nNI.htmlsi=1D_TUEVeIHe8gbdT In reality you have to compensate for magnetic declination too...

Really nice videos of how to use real world artillery systems but can it be that the rangetables of the gun are a little bit off ? I did some testing and while the aiming circle really worked well the range is always a problem. The shells fall shorter then described in the range table.

Thanks for taking the time. Well I have the problem with this mod that it is way too accurate for my taste. You might share your calculation, do you compensate for base range and elevation difference?

@@gezalesko3813 The problem lies on my end. I completly have overseen the right rangetable in the editor and did use the ace one. I did try it again with the right one and everything did work as expected 👍

How will it be calculated if there is a high mountain between the target and the artillery?

you need to use the biggest charge with high angle shot to go as high as possible the highey point called apex is calculated with this equation: h=(velicity x sin elevation)square/2g but projectiles go high anyway on high angle shot so there must be the the himalaya in between to relly be a problem...

@@gezalesko3813 thanks for your answer. I wonder one thing, are those who do the artillery calculations doing all these calculations in their heads? .is a notebook and pen enough :D

@@ubersoldat1939 It depends on the computerization level of a system. No computer: all calculations by hand from meteorological to ballistics. Today they are fully automated and integrated, no calculation whatsoever needed: you select the target on the integrated electronic map or enter coordinates, select the mission (salvo, shell type) and go. ITC mod in ARMA3 pretty realistic if you want to get familiar with modetn systems.

@@ubersoldat1939 it's a very team oriented process. The Forward Observers, the eyes of the artillery, call the coordinates of the target as well as the shell needed to the FDC, the brains of the artillery. The FDC use computers to figure out how the guns need to aim, how much powder to use, what shell to use. Then they send that info to the guns, where you know what happens next. But the Forward Observers will see where the shells land and make corrections, starting the process over again.
