Mariah's voice was quite deep to begin with and has gotten deeper as the decades have passed. Mariah has a wide vocal range, from deep to high pitch - a lot of pop songs favour high pitched notes, but it's harder for Mariah to hit those very high notes now. This applies for both male and female singers

Here’s the thing. Mariah has ALWAYS had a lower set voice. People think that just because she sings very high apparently means she has no lower register???? Yes age does play a part but lambs know that sis can sing LOW lol. To be totally honest, I don’t listen to Arianna’s music like that. She doesn’t seem confident in her voice the past couple of years which I think could be bc she’s getting older but at the same time she went to the airy/whispery side of singing early on in her career which I feel in a way could’ve weakened her voice bc her first two albums she was for sure (still is now but in a different way) a powerhouse like she used more of her chest voice back then but not much now.

Mariah is singing within her comfort zone and that’s okay. I do miss the days of true remixes, where the originals are either reworked or extended, with feature. Remixes nowadays feel more like bare minimum padding onto just the original track.

I heard that Billboard changed the rule in 2000s to ban a remix sounding different from the original one to chart or sth. Therefore, if an artist wants the remixes to help the chart performance, the remixes have to sound similar, leading to the remixes situation nowadays. Such a shame tho

I actually liked it. I think when the first released it Mariah did sound different, but if you're using apple music turn off the Dolby Atmos and it sounds much better. Even Mariah posting the clip on her own page on twitter and instagram her voice sounded better. I've even seen people like it the more they listen to it. Cause I've been seeing more positive comments now vs the release.

Tons of people were complaining how whispery and thin Ariana’s vocals were on the original… and I kinda think this proves it. Someone belting in comparison drowns her in the mix. I don’t understand why she never went into her full voice even for the final chorus at least. A bit unprecedented when her previous singles had vocal acrobatics.

Shes a light lyric soprano its easier for her to mix and use a whispery tone. Ive watched countless videos on aris vocals and i can safely say her BELTING range ends at about Eb5 whereas from E5 and above she uses mixed voice which is similar but 2 completely separate things. Mariah is not a light lyric soprano and she had a different way of teaching. She mostly BELTS waaayyyy up into G5(in her prime at least) but she really struggles with her mixed voice which is why her live chesty range end at G5 while ari can go to B5. Belting is way harder than mixing but done properly it sounds amazing. While with mixing its easier to go higher and sound lighter but more muffeld Note mariah utilized her whispery tone quite almost always back in her older days shes still got it but its not that easy for her anymore. Songs like butterfly/Fourth of july/bliss etc is just mariah whispering the whole time

to be honest i was expecting Gaga on this remix it would fit perfectly.

I think we have been waiting for them to collaborate for a long time and this wasn't what we expected or wanted. Those voices together should be on a slow song or a well-thought-out song with a crazy build-up to the bridge of the track something for us to remember another timeless track. This felt rushed and with not too much thought still nice, a lot is going on in the track, but somehow still leaves you feeling empty.

Mariah is a legend and I have the upmost respect for her but baby, this remix was bad like really bad. Mariah was way too loud in the first half and the lyrics in second half were nonsensical like she ask ChatGPT to come up with something real quick. Interesting, I think you should go listen to some of Mariah dance mixes….its a fun record…. they were enjoying the moment. Mariah brought more fullness to the song to be in contrast with Ariana…because Mariah could have just did her whisper voice….she wanted to bring more of her house voice to the song. This tone isn’t off course for Mariah….songs like “you’re mine” has a very similar depth in tone as well. Go listen to caution too you will hear that. Nothing sounds different if anything her voice sounds healthier than recent years

I agree. Musically and technically, there’s nothing wrong with Mariah’s voice or tone. I’ve seen people claim she sounded strained or flat (?) which doesn’t make any sense at all. I think people are just not used to her older voice because they’re comparing it to her younger voice, which was crystal clear. Her older voice is definitely quite unique and more raspy but cutting and resonant at the same time kind of like a saxophone. Maybe it’s an acquired taste

If yall have ever heard a Mariah house remix this is exactly what she does. She belts her ass off to bring the energy. Ari chose a more subdued approach but if she asked Mariah to be on the song she knew Mariah was gonna bring it.

I think she’s playing more into her range.. she knows she can do the high notes very well. I think she’s playing the lower octave of her voice. It’s usually to preserve the sound quality of the higher octave.

Yes like a ballad or a mid tempo with great lyrics pretty melodies over a piano and harps instruments with live strings Mariah smooth buttery tone low luscious notes all the way to her sky high bird, like whistle register for background, harmonies and powerful belts to blend in for those dramatic effects, she loves to give Ariana light high belt blending with Mariah‘s belts, added with her soft head voice mix with Mariah soft airy tone with the under tones of Mariah deep low register for the low octave similar to meltaway that’s what I envision

I love it tbh the deep tone is so special and just the whole spectacle of these two giants doin their thing makes me want to join in at the top of my lungs in the shower/car so mission accomplished to me

I had a lot of thoughts about this remix. But not without first stating how much I LOVE these women. 💛 I think the first chorus should have been Ari solo; bring Mariah in on the second verse. Mariah's voice was a big contrast to Ari's more delicate tone on this song for sure. The intro was IT. Again, love them both so so much.

I think they both ate personally. I think there’s a little editing on Mariah’s voice In the chorus that was a little jarring to me at first but after a couple listens… the adlibs, whistles and riffs/runs are just so 🤔 EDIBLE 🔥🥵🤣

That's her voice! Have you people even heard Mariah sing? She sing sing! Not just whisper here and there! This is HOUSE MUSIC! Mariah KNOWS HOW TO MAKE HOUSE MUSIC! All Ariana did was whsiper and Mariah brought that energy that was missing!

As i am a strong mariah fan and a lamb for life but mariah voice on here just sounds unpleasant and her verse was boring they should have expanded her part and her singing during the bridge just wasn't good
