The trick with counting this song is that it's "fast five." The fives are in the 16th notes. So time signature is 5/16. Or you can just think of it as quintuplet time, so that the pulse is "in one."

Lots of flamenco music employs complex time signatures, in particular the Siguiriyas where some measures are for example 6/8 and others 3/4

This is so unbelievably musical. I’m addicted to the groove and fascinated with this level of rhythmic playing. If anyone has any suggestions I’m all ears. Of course I’ve started working with Ari’s published educational material on the subject.

its 5 definitely, the thing that throws away is that they do subdivision in first part of the melody which is exactly half. and Ari is doing hihat 1 2 an (3) an (4) an 5. Kick on 1 and snare on (3) an Well it looks easier on paper, did my best to explain :) lol

it's actually in 9/8, on the album the intro starts in 5/4 then switches with 9/8 with the same feel as blue rondo. Otherwise correct :)

Yes it is in 5/4 for 2 bars of the song but the last 12 bars are always in 3/4 !!!

7:50 what's to bet half of the people don't understand jazz and just go "whhooooooooo yeahhh!!!!" when everyone else does because they suddenly recognize a 4/4 pattern and rhythm.
