I can clearly remember where I was in 1971 when I first heard this piece early one evening on BBC Radio 3. It was an unforgettable experience.

So great to see Lyda in this, and what a performance!

Being interested in Astrology I found Martha Argerich was born with Jupiter sextile Pluto and Robert Schumann was also born with Jupiter sextile Pluto and both were born in the star sign of Gemini No wonder Martha Argerich plays Schumann so well !!

One of my favorite pieces of music, by anyone. And it's nothing like his solo piano works (but I love them too).

The Schumann Quintet is a feast to the ears and soul. Great performance.

Soulful and exhilarating. They sometimes say that Schumann was very hard for a musician to keep up with. And here sometimes you can almost see the musicians fighting to keep their seats as they struggle to keep up with the composer. My favorite composer.

My favorite composer as well. He always touches me where other composers, albeit remarkable geniuses, don’t.

The crazy thing about Schumann’s music is that he found no comfort in anything. You can hear it in his works. He was surrounded by darkness, but sometimes an angel with lighted wings would brighten the darkness. Yet Schumann still found reasons to not only afraid of demons but angels too.

Martha as usual gave speed tempo on the end of the 1st part.

oh dang the third movement is like, FURIOUSLY fast, and I kind of like the tempo for its drive but... wow I would not want to actually play it that fast myself.

Vigoroso, melodioso, destaque para o violoncelo; parece que o quinteto de Brahms tem filiação com esse mais que com o de Schubert; o tema do primeiro movimento é muito repetido; segundo movimento: melancólico, quase marcha fúnebre; coda muito longa; parece não conseguir concluir. No todo, é uma composição tipicamente romântica da fase intermediária.

Argerich often plays faster than "normal", this is a typical example

Mauvaise balance du son, le piano écrase les cordes. Et ce n'est pas la faute de Martha...

For a moment I thought this was a Beethoven work.....oh wait nevermind just another composer ripping off his style :)

that’s what happens throughout the history of music :) early Beethoven did a few ripoffs from his predecessors as well, I can assure you of that.
