    I'm an Australian, and I 100% wanted Messi to beat us and go on and win this World Cup. I would've been devastated had we somehow beaten Argentina. And as they pointed out I'm sure there are those in France who felt the same way as did people in Mexico, Poland, Holland and Croatia. That's how beloved Messi is. He has given us, and the game of Football, so much over the years, and aside from Johan Cruyff, I don't think anyone in football history is more deserving of winning a World Cup.

    Diego Maradona was a larger than life character, a flawed genius, he had his faults but he had extraordinary charisma to go with his ability and so he was always seen as one of them by the Argentine people whereas Leo is essentially a very shy and introverted personality with extraordinary ability. He wasn’t poor growing up, they weren’t poor but they weren’t rich, Messi didn’t choose to be gifted genius, genius chose Messi to embody its grace. The losses as hard as they were for us and by us, I mean all of us that love him (I’m not Argentine) we’re cruel blows to him that we felt too and I think the Argentine people started to realise that he does love us, he is one of us and he is trying his best to win for us and he’s not getting the luck. Messi stuck at it and BOOM, Copa America, Finalemente and now the holy grail, THE WORLD CUP. Your boy did it and he did it for you Argentina because he has always loved his country. He was offered to play for the Spanish national team and he turned it down because he didn’t want to turn his back on his country, that says everything about his loyalty to his country and now look at him, he is a national treasure, the man who finally joined Diego Maradona as Argentina’s favourite son!❤🙏🏻✨🇦🇷🏆👑🐐 Messi is the greatest player ever and that can no longer be denied.

He did what no one thought he could do and that is be instrumental outside of Barcelona without all those talented midfield players and win tournaments with and for the national team and be decisive. To me he is the greatest player ever, to others Pele or Maradona but in the end, what does it really matter, he has done it all and now no one can say anything at all about his pedigree and I think he would be satisfied enough with that.❤️🙏🏻✨

    @@simonpitt8145 not being anti English in any way, but no chance. They bottled it against France and will never win anything with that manager. England have a fantastic set of players, but, as always, they’ll be let down by a lack of ambition, being overly cautious. Argentina showed the world how to play outside of the limits of what is actually not a star studded team. Most people outside of England just cannot understand the decision making tbh. Very frustrating to watch when you look at the talent at your disposal.

  • @simonpitt8145

    Interesting view. Bear in mind, however, that whenever England hired exotic high profile managers in the past, like Capello or Eriksson, we flattered to deceive. Southgate has actually got us further in international tournaments than either of those said managers, who both had at least an equally talented a team. So changing managers for someone of supposedly greater status isn't necessarily the guarantor of success. People keep banging on about Guardiola. Really? Someone who fails year after year in the champions league with Man City despite an inordinate amount of money to spend on players - I think Southgate is a better bet to stay at the helm personally.

  • @Patrick-sh9tt

    @@simonpitt8145 i hear you. It’s a difficult one and England have certainly improved. However, I would say that, somewhat like Spain for many years, they are eternally underachieving. I think many people outside of England would say that if they were being honest and not partisan. Southgate seems to react to public and media pressure too much. He included Maddison in the squad due to media pressure, despite never wanting to play him. His choice of Foden also seemed to come out of that kind of pressure. He always seems to be reacting to outside influences which is a downfall in any manager. He has one more tournament now, England have a great chance, but only if he has actually learnt some lessons from the last few tournaments which I’m not sure he has.

  • @simonpitt8145

    @simonpitt8145

    @@Patrick-sh9tt I certainly don't subscribe to the theory that Southgate is perfect. His substitutions are not good. Bringing on Grealish with only a minute left of injury time - what was the point of that? And taking Saka off when he was IMHO our most potent attacker just seemed bizarre to me. But I don't believe that changing managers is necessarily going to fix things as if it were the equivalent of waving a magic wand. Why do people always assume this to be the answer to every setback in life? You mention that he responds too much to media pressure. I read this with some interest and I feel there may be some merit in your view. However, perhaps it should be balanced by his decision to stay faithful to Harry Maguire, for whom there was a huge clamour to have him dropped due to his indifferent form at club level. Some people ( I'm looking at you Simon Jordan ) don't believe that Southgate is good enough tactically in that he can't respond to problems as they manifest themselves on the pitch when England are under the rack. Yet he sorted Griezmann out all right for the second half didn't he? This tweak resulted in England's much improved display I am sure.

    Happy to see a new champ. However, soccer(football) is so flawed with all the calculated penalties + theatrics. Killing a counterattack should be an instant yellow but refs are too scared to actually get control of the game. It’s certainly not the beautiful game imo

    Of course, a lot of people in Fra wanted Arg to win. Let's face it Fra for all their talent became a joke with their faceoff with Morocco. France knows it but we have to see Mbappe in the final even if we have to bring politics into it. And nobody can tell me Morocco was duly rewarded for the two fouls in the box by the dirty French. The referee played the whistle as though nothing happened. But the problem is Morocco has been outstanding all tournament and was a big injustice from a neutral perspective to see them get robbed like that. One was where the Mor player was completely chopped in the box and the other was where a Mor player wanted to jump up in the air to meet a cross in the box and had his opponent's arms all over him as well as rugby tackled to the ground. You can't just ignore those two incidents and then give three penalties in the final. It's crook on a big, big scale. You can't even get past it. I mean I am surprised that Sheik Mohammed of Qatar didn't tell the two finalists to take it somewhere else. Have the finals in Lebanon. It's robbery and finally, no one pities that Fra lost for the reason they looked 2nd best in their semi, that's no joke. Also, I shouldn't forget Argentina...big congrats. At least you got the job done😉

    😂🤣 You are on something!! Argentina is much better, France had everybody. NO EXCUSES! Also, the only reason they strugled was because Scaloni took out Di Maria, otherwise this would have never happened. This should have been Argentina's easiest game all WC. Also France doesn't have a midfield only wings, and their defense is bad. France finally played a real team this WC. Get this right, nobody is better than Argentina and Brazil.

    So we're all gonna pretend that Qatar Saint Germain has NOT treated Argentina with kid gloves since they were demolished by Saudi Arabia? It got to the point we were all betting how quickly a penalty would be given to Messi. Argentina are a dirty team who barely get a lick of the red cards they should. I don't know where the hell France was last night. I get the team got sick but I know one thing - Mbappe showed me who the GOAT is. Not since Maradona have I seen such a display of one-man brilliance. Unlike his teammates, he did his penalty homework. Maradona is looking down on Mbappe with awe. Messi who? Oh, the guy that needed all the help in the world via Qatar Saint Germain to finally raise the cup. Very apt the goalie used the glove near his crotch as they were handed this tournament.
