This makes sense. I have a smaller following (a little less than 2k). The most views I got on a reel was 15k but my average is about 1200-2000. Been posting more to my stories because I just wanted to share ideas without feeling the pressure of needing to be a "polished production" and my engagement has gone up significantly. Like went from 95-100 views to 175-250 on average and I'm posting way less if at all on my main page. I will keep adding to my stories and work on more engagement type posts.

The reach and engagement keeps getting worse. We are tired. I keep having the same 20 people see/interact with my posts. On occasion my photo posts do better than reels. I also think people are tired of videos and want photos.

So welcome, Tina! The pause in Reels reach would likely align with the algorithm switch. Stories are definitely worth your attention to re-engage your existing followers. I have less than 500 followers ( by design and personal preference) and I was noticing a year ago that likes from falling on my posts. But I was getting a lot of views on my Stories. I started posting screen shots of my Posts in my Stories with a heading New Post!. I noticed an uptick in my likes on my posts. People were looking at my stories but never going to the posts on my feed.

interesting!!! I have 900 followers. for awhile reels got me to about 800 and then stopped. i tried carousel posts and each post is reaching 300+ likes. reels are now not hitting 1k views and hardly getting likes. I'm also getting 50+ story views when i. use to get like.... 5 LOL. I'm glad there's stats behind this happening, I'll shift to creating more carousels now!

Hi, you should post to Stories regardless of your followers and create Highlights with the useful posts as per the video. Post a mix of Reels, images and carousels to grow, you'd want to test and see which works best for you. All posts have less reach, and of all posts, Reels still have the highest reach, so try them all (check out the full study via the link in the description, it's fascinating). Stories help keep your current audience engaged which helps you in the algorithm - C

There is definitelyyyy a lot of repurposed content, which Instagram has said they don't want on the app and prefer original content... but the people don't listen!

My reels dont reach to non followers at all. Like if it reaches 500 people, it will be 20 non followers. Unless my fellow content creators do me a favor and share it in their stories and my non followers reach increase. However my carousels reach a lot more people. Sometimes more than my reels and a lot more non followers. Hashtags are working for carousels because it shows in my insight how much reach my hashtags gave. But for reels, hashtags are not working to reach new people.

Interesting. That's essentially what the study is saying for the most part, and perhaps partially it's due to your carousels receiving more engagement from your followers so then the algo feeds it to more non-followers. Keep testing different approaches to your Reels to see if you can change that! - C

Hi! So Stories are to keep your current base engaged, so that the algorithm knows to continue to feed your posts to your followers. It uses data like how engaged your audience is with your Stories to determine whether people want to see your content, so that would be the primary use for them. An account that is receiving engagement is often suggested to other new users, and that's how you'd use Stories to grow. Hope that helps! - C

They didn't specify how the DMs were to go, so I'd imagine it wouldn't matter. As long as conversations are going down in there, I don't think the algo is looking at how they started. - C

Aiming for 3-5 per day is a good sweet spot we’ve found. If very rich in storytelling / value you could get to 7-10 but that’s really content depending as you want to reduce the chance of having people exit early. Hope that helps!

Hi Adrian, correct - Stories expand your reach within your current followers, not to new followers. We've never done a video on types of Stories to create that I can recall, but things like Behind The Scenes, promotions, sharing memes, just casual content that wouldn't really be suited for the feed. Reels don't need to produced as much as before, you could do one Reel per week and see how it goes. I'd suggest that you stick to a posting cadence that you can consistently manage, so that your audience knows when to expect content. Hope that helps! - C

So welcome, and thank you for watching! Stories would be good to do 3+ per day, as much as you can manage, but don't stress yourself about it. And yes, one Reel a day is too much, the research suggests they're not performing as well as they used to be so choose a posting cadence (3 times per week, etc) and stick with that. What is the DM you mention here? Direct Marketing? Direct Message? I havent used Insta yet, but did put up a pic last week to test my account worked. And have not been back since. And are insta reels the same as fbk ? And are insta 24 hr stories the same as fbks stories. If I post some pics on my fbk, mainly for friends and family, fbk says "here's a piece of music you may like to add to your post and make a reel." Confused.

Hi Mary, DM in this case is Direct Messages, so the private inbox that Instagram has where you can message people away from public posts. Yes, IG Reels are the same as FB Reels for the most part, and IG Stories are the same as FB Stories (24 hour life span). You also can add music to a post or a Reel on IG, it's very siimilar to FB in the offerings, it's just presented differently - C

It's cool! It still has a lot of work to do as far as ways to keep people engaged. It's a tough ask to get people into a whole new app so it'll be a slow burn most likely but they seem very dedicated to it, and they're leveraging IG to push users to Threads. So I'd say we're optimistic about it, mostly because it's Meta behind it and they'll be relentless as far as making it work. How do you feel about it so far? - C

Hi, there's arguments for both options. You could attempt transitioning your current account, and that would depend a lot on whether the topic/niche will be too far of a reach for the existing followers. You may be able to clear out those who aren't interested and attract new folks quickly if you have a strong content strategy. But if you don't want the uncertainty or to do the extra work that it'd take to transition it over and keep the followers, then just kick off fresh - C

Reels will be there and will still rock. Stories only visible only for 24 hours , Reels - forever. Some Reels might hit after a few months or even 1 year. Do Reels and post them as your Stories. But stop doing dummy Reels , please

Question: if only people who follow you can see your stories, how will that lead to more reach?

Hi, the point with Stories is to increase your ranking in the overall algorithm which leads to you being shown to your followers more often, and supports the growth of your account when your followers share your content either in their own Stories or directly to a friend. So it's more of a long play but it's super effective if you're consistent - C

I deleted my last 2 reels because the reach was soo low and based on what my audience loved I was sure it would work. I knew it made no sense

I wouldn't necessarily encourage you to delete the content if it doesn't hit. You can repost it in the future and mostly just learn from it and tweak and adjust your next batches of content. - C

@@Highseasonco it’s just really embarrassing when the rest of my content gets like 1000 or 3000 thousand views and then all of a sudden 2 or 3 videos hit only 400 and doesn’t push it’s like stuck. Making my account look like it’s declining it’s so weird.

We toke a year off. Now that we are back our reels views are terrible. Only getting 10 views now as oppose to 500 to 1K per video. Any tips ?

It takes time. Try all of the tips in the video and just adjust expectations that it may take a few months or longer to get back on track - C

This is exhausting, instagram and social media should just die already. Gotta do all this just for some eyes, straight up ridiculous.

The algorithm have no real structure it gives random ppl high numbers on post that aren’t even following these strategies. It’s sad.

It's quite structured in that it's constantly feeding posts to people and if they engage, then it feeds it to more people and so on. If the post doesn't get engagement then it stops feeding it to people. There's definitely some luck involved in parts of it but if your content is hitting, then the algorithm can be your friend :) - C

what is a carousel?

Hi, a carousel is a slideshow post where you can post multiple images or videos (up to 10) and people can swipe through them to see them all - C

I posted more stories and more content. It was doing well. I paid for a boost and it seems like my page has dropped ever since.

Last year two of my reels one reached 64m views and the second 30m views, now i get consistent 4k views . That reach drops should be studied lol PS : i have 95k followers

Those are some serious numbers! This demonstrates the level to which Reels views have dropped, though a more extreme case. But the same strategies should get you back up there, potentially there's a better chance since you've already done it before - C

How do you access carousels on Instagram?

Hi! When you go to make a post, it takes you to a screen with all of your Recent photos and videos. If you select the little icon with a square with a shadow (right next to the camera button), that will allow you to select up to 10 images and videos to post as a carousel. Hi, Instagram is prioritizing DMs because as Adam said, more content is shared via DMs than in the feed. The idea is to get your audience into the DMs so you can have more personal 1:1 conversations which can lead to sales and building a better community. - C

It's OK - the algo seems to prefer smaller accounts so go hard on Stories! - C

Its really sad that as a small content creator you sit your ass down to write your content and film it to post then you get no views but a big account will check up your page copy and remake it on thier page then bammmm they get 1.2 million views, Instagram is about copy and paste 😏

The point about Stories is to cultivate and serve the community that you have, getting more interactions and therefore increasing your standing in the algorithm, which leads to being exposed to new people. You could pay for Meta Verified for another of your accounts (either FB or IG) and that'll get you access to their support directly. That's likely your best option - C

We'd just suggest that you make sure it's either your product or service, or something that is really relevant to target audience so that way you don't run the risk of just having randoms enter and follow you who won't end up being engaged in the future. We also recommend that you add "share this and tag us" so you can get more shares on your post. Hope that helps! :) - T

​@Highseasonco great advice. I've found that giveaways aren't bringing in followers as much as they used to last year. Not many people are doing it and I have also noticed that when people do a giveaway; not so many people are commenting and they are not gaining followers from it

@@lizet3more ty! It’s definitely not as aggressive as before which is a good thing! That used to flood feeds so now there’s less saturation. From what we’ve assessed the prize has to be of true value and worth someone taking the time to perform the actions, additionally the higher the value the more you can ask for. Overall though we’d never recommend someone give away a MacBook Pro for example if it has nothing to do with their business, hyper relevance is the key.

According to the study, accounts with less than 500 followers have some of the best reach in Stories so it's definitely still worth it! - C

Not changing niches but changing the approach to your content. Eg if you do the same types of Reels all the time, try something new, a different approach to your content. Definitely keep the niche. I'd love to see how you go if you commit to daily Stories. Also I imagine your account is about your music based on your handle, so try to come up with some sort of series where people can follow along and have some sort of expectation for the next piece of content, something like BTS recording an album, the writing or recording process etc.@@noface_singer

They don't! The idea is that you're engaging your current followers with Stories, and if your content is good enough they'll share it with someone and your account can grow from there - C

just tell your viewers the truth "If you're not rich or you're a female dancing in your underwear you won't get views, there's algorithmic needed period but the honest truth.

It feels like slavery. They want us to work for them by posting daily but most of us get nothing in return. They want us to post to keep people on the platform but whats the incentive for us who are posting daily.

I get it. It can be a lot. It didn't used to be like this, before social was inundated with everyone as creators plus businesses. The incentive would be to build a community around your brand and your content. It's the most overlooked part of social as most people tend to be distracted by the numbers. - C
