Great overview on the power and flexibility of Roles. One thing not explained here (and I don't think anyone else has either) is in the roles menu you get numerals after each addition such as Dialogue-1, Dialogue-2, etc. Is there any reason to select them? Is there any purpose for those appearing in the list after adding a Role to a clip?

It’s just additional organization! You can open up the roles even farther if you want to reveal the sub roles. This is handy for when you have stems for music, and want to separate out each instrument into a new role. Or when you have an interview with two mics. You would want those roles to technically be “dialogue” but you don’t want all the dialogue bunched together.

I just use QuickTime’s built in screen recorder! It’s just important to make sure you’re recording on a Retina display. If you record on a non-retina display, that’s when your recordings can fall apart.

You can change the roles directly in the browser! Just right click on the clips in the browser and make the change there. This will make it so anytime after you apply that audio clip to the timeline, it will have the new audio role. Hope that helps!

Question ? Is it possible to create a role from the browser? Say I have a music track I drop it in my browser and create a roll from there and then every instances on my timeline it’s showing that role. It’s like I created a project cut music but now I have to select each and every clip in my timeline. Why can’t I go back to the browser and do a master role and it all updates? Hope that makes sense.

You can’t retroactively apply a role, but you can apply a role in the browser beforehand! I just generally apply the role right when I go to use the media, or when I import it. You could use the index to search for your song title, select all of the different elements, then use CTRL OPTION M to change the role though!

Lately I've had issues exporting my edit to Logic, my dialogue channels don't retain the edits, just repeat the first seconds through the timeline. Any idea of why this happens or what should I do? I have both apps updated.

The best audio feature of Final Cut is using Logic… Actually, I wish the video editing in Final Cut was the same as the sound editing in Logic; feels so much more intuitive to me

I wuz playing with "Video Rolls" and when set, the titles started overlapping!!!! Two titles one over the other. Apple has a LOT of bugs in FCP! for a multi-billion dollar company, you'd think Apple could make less buggy software.

There’s so many variables that can make a bug happen. Pretty much impossible to squash all of them! Even stuff like a solar flare from the sun hitting the earth can cause a bug in your computer haha!
