Patents are not necessarily relevant to climate change. What are they patents for? (My father held a patent also. It was on the processing of sesame seeds. Did that make him a specialist on climate change?) And Kerry didn't come up with the facts himself. He is relying on information from climate scientists with Ph.D.s who have devoted their lives to the study of climate. That is the crucial point. And what is in it for Republicans to deny global warming? Oh yeah--it might hurt the oil industry (i.e. BIG MONEY). It's a conflict of interest. They're denying climate change because they don't want the inconvenience and cost of addressing it. People like Massie are only fooling the people who don't understand the science.

For instance are you aware that the major oceanic currents are slowing down due to rising temperatures? The currents help carry warm water from the equator northward and southward thus providing the poles with warmer climates. But since the currents are slowing down, the data suggests that will result in a warmer equator but much colder the farther north and south you get. Massie, a man who studied actual fields of science, is far more qualified than Kerry, a man who studied how politicians act.

Massie's science questions (not the political science ones, which were unnecessary) were the kind of questions Mr. Kerry should have been asking the scientists advising him. Anybody leading scientific endeavors or most anything else needs to know a good deal of the subject matter, in order to evaluate truth, fiction, and oversights. But he can't; he doesn't have the relevant education. Massie displayed good Socratic questioning. This is essential when trillions of funding are at stake. The Press doesn't do it, as they should. It takes education in thermodynamics, radiative heat transfer, differential equations, and a bit of quantum mechanics to understand greenhouse gas behavior. This is part of top mechanical engineering curricula. Unfortunately, very few in our society have this background and hence can fall under the spell of spin masters if not skeptical.

Instead of lobbying firms sending John Kerry to DC, why dont they figure out a away to sell their energy efficient products at more affordable cost, instead of creating a monopoly and forcing Americans to buy it? At the time, the team set several world records including a lap speed in excess of 62 mph (99 kmph), and straight-away speeds in excess of 70 mph (112 kmph).[6] In 1992, Massie won MIT's then-named 2.70 ("Introduction to Design and Manufacturing", now named 2.007) Design Competition.[7] MIT professor Woodie Flowers, who pioneered the 2.70 contest, mentioned that Massie watched this contest on television in seventh grade and wanted to come to MIT to win this contest.[8] In 1993, at MIT, Massie and his wife started a company called SensAble Devices Inc.[9] Massie completed his Bachelor's degree in the same year and wrote his Bachelor's thesis, Design of a three-degree of Freedom force-reflecting haptic interface.[10][11] Massie was the winner in 1995 of the $30,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize for inventors,[5] and the $10,000 David and Lindsay Morgenthaler Grand Prize in the sixth annual MIT $10K Entrepreneurial Business Plan Competition.[12] The company was re-incorporated as SensAble Technologies, Inc., in 1996 after partner Bill Aulet joined the company.[9] They raised $32 million of venture capital, had 24 different patents, and 70 other employees.[13] Also in 1996, Massie completed his Master's degree (SM) and his master's thesis was titled Initial haptic explorations with the phantom : virtual touch through point interaction.[14] Massie sold the company, and he and his wife returned to their hometown in Lewis County."

The co2 from crops isn't a sustainable way to harvest co2 from the atmosphere, unless new forms of regenerative farming techniques are used (which most farmers don't). This is unlike the growing of trees for lumber or other plants (like bamboo), where the resultant crop's co2 isn't released during consumption, making it a sustainable way to harvest co2. The co2 is trapped in the lumber until it is either burnt or decays. The co2 in food crops is released, including in the form of other damaging gases like methane (ie. when consumed by farm animals). There is no net gain, in terms of co2 harvesting.

If yall can't see how we are ruining this planet then you're too far brainwashed. The last little over 100 years we went from moving around the earth by horse, boat or train and burned and buried trash and mostly grew our own food to all of a sudden having cars, electricity, technology, planes to go anywhere in the world. The whole world was all of a sudden becoming modernized and polluted. There's literally garbage islands in the middle of our oceans from people!!! The world population has grown like 5x in such a small amount of time. What do yall think will happen when the world continues to warm?? What will happen to land when the ice all melts?? Islands and coastal areas are already going under water all around the world. Look at the crazy weather we've been having. The once in a thousand year flood in NYC. The drought thats devastating the west. The polor vortexes we've had the last 2 winters and the crazy hott weather in the north. Look at Greenland. @@bikersoncall Actually, I do sometimes call myself a Doctor, mostly for communications with other academics and biotech companies. That doesn't mean that I would raise my hand if I was sitting in an airplane and a call for a doctor went out over the PA. Coincidentally, one of my in-laws is a nurse and has responded to one of these calls. She has most definitely not earned the title of "Doctor" (her education is more equivalent to a Master's), but I would confidently follow her instructions during a medical emergency.

What is perplexing is that Massie has an MS in Engineering from MIT and built a house that runs entirely on solar energy. You would think he'd be less ignorant than the bunch that embarrassed themselves in the Facebook/Google Congressional hearings a few months back.

@Ben Santoyo I just come from reviewing that thesis. It is a mere description of an existing system. There is not a single calculation of any kind. There's not a single experience or application of any kind. There's not a single experimental procedure nor a theoretical approach. It's a continued paragraph of a mild description of a technology that he hasn't even replicated. That sir is a very average undergraduate work. And I include the whole planet.
