thanks. i've been watching all of your videos. I've acknowledged that I possess ALL the symptoms of an ACOA...in fact, the first drilling rig I worked on out here, one of the guys asked me "are you the black sheep? alcoholic family?" I need to address my psychological wounds. I'm going to Al Anon here in Williston tomorrow night. I've been watching your videos around the clock. People like you are the greatest gift to people like me

i left home at 24 (yes, a bit late) to work 2,000 miles away in the north dakota oil field. I never knew my mom was an alcoholic, but I did know my family was incredibly dysfunctional. She came to visit me out here a few days ago and in the past 3 days I've realized how extreme of an alcoholic my mom is. It's been very difficult lately for me...I got literally "sick to my stomach" and didn't sleep at all last night. These videos are helping...and the family model of alcoholism fits my family'...

My experience is that this is a genetic issue. But you mention foster parents, adoptive parents in the end of the video. Do you mean that the child gets the psychological wounds inflicted after birth or that these wounds are inherited? BTW you are awesome, a few of my friends are talking a lot about your findings. You're doing a great job packaging your gift of helping people. A life changer for me and everybody around me.

Thanks for your feedback. Children raised in a home with one or more addicted (wounded) parents inherit some mix of the same psychological wounds whether they're biologically related or not. All kids e2nduring significant early-childhood abandonment, neglect, and abuse are apt to inherit some wounds, whether their adults are addsicted or not

I propose they are not "sick," but they have inherited psychological wounds + unawareness from their ancestors.

...to a T. These videos are helping me get through this...this is the hardest thing i've dealt with in a while, but I think it's best I separate from my family, as my dad is co dependent for my mom and just as sick as she is but cannot see it. thanks for the insight

Although alcohol was involved, my dad was very loud, physically abusive to my mother (beating her at least once a week), and emotionally abusive to my sister n I. I've had emdr and strong Christian faith, but still struggle with hardships & crying at times. Dad recently moved away, but I'm left to take up the pieces of my mom & sister who struggle with skitso & ptsd. My sis can be violent person like dad. So again I cry sometimes because I have to be the strong one. What now? Thankssomuch!

People can develop in three biological, cognitive and socio-emotional.

You sisters have probably inherited psychological wounds. If so, you can heal them over time. See "lesson 1" at sfhelp.org/gwc/guide1.htm. Questions = welcome.

Did Gerlach state that he has two alcoholic sons in the other video, or was he referring to his parents ?
