Are You Going to Grow the New Glow in the Dark Petunia? // Why No Posts On Facebook? // Recap 🌿

CORRECTION: The new glow in the dark petunia coming to market is apparently crossed with luminescent mushrooms, and not a worm or fish. Just wanted to clear that up. Maybe we will give it a try after all.

But Laura it is still genetically modified with the mushroom, it is not a hybrid. I've been reading about other plants such as the orange petunia that was genetically modified with corn and then research showed it harmed butterflies and created "super-weeds" and then Europe banned it. I personally don't trust GMO products and from the years I've followed your channel I don't think you want GMO on your property.

I am going to order 1 plant and hope I can keep it alive. Maybe I'll make a little moon garden on my back deck. ETA (edited to add): they cost $30 per 4" plant and the shipping is like $24. I think I'll pass this time just due to the cost.

Just paused the video to respond to the discussion about Facebook videos. I don’t blame you for not posting your videos there. It seems to me that account hacking/duplicating on Facebook has become so very common that it’s hard to know what’s legitimate anymore, and the focus seems to be about inundating members’ personal feed with ads. As a result, I’m not even checking my FB that often. I was once on FB MULTIPLE times every day, and now I check my feed maybe 3-4 times a week. If my family didn’t post pictures of all my “littles” there, I’d probably not check it at all. KZread is by far my favorite, and I also prefer vlog-style content over short content. Y’all do an awesome job with your channel…you’re one of my favorites by far! Please don’t change a thing.

Maybe if they had glow-in-the-dark purples, whites, yellows, and reds that will stand out from the green glow. At the moment, it's an amazing achievement, but it's not something that I'd be too keen at adding to my garden. I'm also leery of it's growth. I assume that the proteins that allow the plant to store and release the energy comes at the expense of the plant's growth rate and overall healthspan. $29 and one month later, you have a scraggly petunia that's all leggy and barely blooms. Evolution and genetic persistence dictates that the overall benefits of the phenotype justifies the amount of energy required to produce that phenotype. Right now, idk how glowing in the dark is "paid for" by the plant.

It's just mushroom DNA inserted into a plant you will not eat. You are eating GMO corn, wheat... Stuff that is bathed in pesticides and herbicides... Unless you are eating purely from your garden, and all your beef is homegrown too. That beef is eating lots of GMO grains, any factory farmed animal is. 😬 So uh, if you all don't want to get wet, why are you all in your bathing suits, sitting in the deep end with the rest of us?

@@kittiew260I agree ... Supertunias that don't need deadheading, the locust tree Laura talked about, Thornless plants, disease resistant roses, etc ... are these the natural order? Methinks No. Aren't they gmo? I don't know the exact processes these breeders go through to introduce new and 'more acceptable' plants, but aren't any changes 'natural order' changes? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the expression? BUT, if those plants are indeed a cross between glow worms and plants? Somewhat strange..

Great recap this week. I'm with Laura on rocks in the south garden. Unless they are serving a purpose like a retainer or border on a berm, they are somewhat pointless in a flat landscape. Why put a big rock in a landscape for aesthetics, to then hide it by planting all around it. Looking forward to the coming videos. See you in the next one 🌺🌱🌾

You were talking about metal tree cages today. They can be handy to have. I went to a going-out-of-business sale at a garden nursery. I bought a bunch of their unused tree cages and use them for plant cages around Peonies and my Annabelle Hydrangea or any perennial that wants to flop over. They are now rusty and they just blend in the landscape. One of the best buys I have made. I got them for $1 each.

I can't wait to see this new project come to fruition. I'm glad that you (Laura) have learned to appreciate rocks and berms around the water feature. We can't improve on what God had made . Plus we really don't know what on Earth we could be messing with or what we could release into the world. All the cost and effort put into this to make a glow in the dark plant. Try putting that effort into actually helping people with what they actually need. Love the knowledge ideas and inspiration you all put into your channel. Blessing from the UK ❤

I remember going up into the bush to get what we called Dilworth Shale with my dad to build a dry stack rock wall in front of our home. We filled the trunk of our 62 two door Chevy Sedan over and over again. I would have been 5 or 6. We then planted hen and chicks in some of the cracks. 55 years later, descendants of those plants grace my own garden.
