    Even the example about yourself, preparing meals takes a LOT of energy. I'm sure you appreciated your husband cooking. But it also saved you a lot of energy expenditure. So when you went back to it, it was an added stress to your body that triggered a flare. That was NOT you "keeping yourself sick!" HUGE difference...

    Except that as soon as I figured out what was happening, I felt better - AND was able to make dinner too... Literally the only thing that changed was my mentality about it all. No more or less energy expenditure. Look - feel like you're being blamed as a victim... that's your choice about it all. I have 2 diseases, my son has 2, and we're affected every single day by them. But do we feel like we're victims? Not at all. Does it suck? Yep! Do we wish we didn't have them? Certainly. But in no way do we feel like we're victims - because we have these mindset tools that have helped us to shift away from feeling like we are being "done onto" vs being in control of our diseases. Yes, like I said before and harp on endlessly on this channel - stress does cause flares! It's the #1 cause of flares in my opinion! But sometimes we bring the stress onto ourselves needlessly - there is absolutely no reason to have to go through a stressor if you can prevent it! And that's exactly what the info in this video helps you to uncover.

    I certainly learned early on to keep stressors down and cut out as much toxicity as possible in managing my health. I wish that part of the professional help people with AI diseases get was to help stress management and moving toward a chronic illness lifestyle. More often than not I see people treated with medication and told good luck, when it shouldn't stop there. This reminded me of the folks I see in AI groups that only try medication and refuse to try changing diet because they refuse to let go of comforts even though they're in pain and miserable. Of course that's their right to only make changes when they're ready, but it's quite a shame people suffer where they could be healing. We need more AI disease awareness in the world.

    For sure we do! I definitely wish I had even a 1/4 of this knowledge when I was first told about my hypothyroidism but instead suffered for over 8 years. It's such a shame that so many people could feel better in just a few weeks if they only knew some of this stuff.

    Ah, frustration is such a huge part of this whole journey. Even I experience it from time to time (along with resentment of why it's happened to me) but as long as you keep an open mind I think you'll figure out what works for you and feel SO much better!

    I'm here..I'm ready to get back to work because I'm feeling so much better consistently. But even doing all the entry level things, not even working yet and I was chronically tired for a few weeks after! I think it's hard to get back into the world especially with the fear of a flare!

    Hey Becky! It's great to hear from you! Yeah, going back to work can definitely cause tiredness as well - heck, even working one full day after not working for a while is enough to send you into a flare. But if it continues forever, that's when you need to look at other things as well.

    Wow Michele! I hope all these controversial comments will boost your channel. 😉 I connected to your message and felt that it confirms my recent decision to find a new job (and I really don’t want to go through that stress). My current job has become a toxic environment and it is giving me flares. I have felt “trapped” and this video encouraged me to have hope - find a better job and have less stress. Thank you❤

    The benefit of being disabled now for me would be that I no longer have to give all my energy away to others. I was drained, exhausted. Maybe a part of me now needs to be taken care of. I can now get the rest I so very much require. But, I miss my independence. 😕

  • @MicheleSpring

    I bet not having that independence is so difficult and am so sorry you have to deal with that. Do you feel like you'd have to give your energy away again if you didn't have to rely on getting taken care of? Like that you'd be obligated to do certain things that drain your energy?

    @@MicheleSpring Thanks, Michele. I'm very blessed that I don't have to do anything that takes me beyond my limits. That being said, I am able to do many good things for myself and I have wonderful support from family & friends. I'm definitely improving these days, but now very aware as to how I spend my energy. 🙂

    This mentality infuriates me! 😡 We are NOT keeping ourselves sick! That is complete victim blaming!! How about stresses flare our illnesses and things may not improve unless those stresses are minimized or resolved. That's a HUGE difference from "we are keeping ourselves sick." The woman in your example wasn't "keeping herself sick." She has an autoimmune condition that flares with stress. That stress minimized when she was on disability and increased when she went back to work because of her toxic boss. That wasn't her "keeping herself sick." That was her condition being flared by stress. There's a HUGE difference!! This toxic view of blaming people who are sick or get sick or have flares is HUGELY DAMAGING!!

  • @MicheleSpring

    @MicheleSpring

    I'm not victim blaming AT ALL! In fact, it's the exact opposite - it's taking complete responsibility for all of your actions, thoughts, and feelings - and stepping AWAY from being the victim. Yes, for sure stress causes flares - but for this particular woman she hadn't been experiencing any more stress. And for me, cooking dinner wasn't stressful. 2nd Gain (the concept I described in this video) is a very common mechanism by which we all keep ourselves stuck in a variety of negative thought patterns and situations - in all areas of our lives - but by learning to recognize it, it EMPOWERS you - not shames you. You get to be in control and not be a victim - that's why it's so wonderful and amazing! Every time I share this concept in this capacity as well I get so many people who tell me they've had massive a-has and gone on to be able to handle their situation so much better as well. So please don't look at it as victim shaming - it's empowering yourself with the knowledge that you may be unaware of - which is SO SO POWERFUL!!!

    This is VERY VERY dangerous. This goes beyond recognizing stressors and DOES victim blame. Did u read Dr. Sarnos? This is textbook medical gaslighting gold. I had 3 MRIs last month which showed tendinitis in my wrist, elbow flexors, extensors, and shoulder. The work comp doc didn’t know this and told me I was lying crazy or malingering. I hope you never end up brain dead in a neurocritical ICU like some of my patients I’ve cared for as an ICU nurse- who’ve searched for answers from medical gaslighting docs only to have them stick to this mentality and kill or prevent their patients from receiving an appropriate diagnosis. There is SOME truth to exiting situations that are disrespectful and stressful but framing it in a “sickness is benefitting you” instead of “situations and thoughts/stress produced by them” are keeping you sick IS victim blaming. You are playing with some very serious bad karma here - I fear for you and your loved ones. You’ve got a hard lesson to learn it seems. Dangerously Naive.

    @MicheleSpring Stress can be physical, mental, and/or emotional. It isn't always just emotional. The woman in your example took time off from a stressful, toxic boss and work environment. She had improvements while off work, away from that environment. She had a flare when she went back to work, back into the stressful environment of a toxic boss. That is NOT keeping yourself sick! That is a body responding to an increase in stress, in this case physical, mental, and emotional. That is absolutely NOT the same thing as someone keeping themselves sick. And what if she hadn't been able to leave that toxic situation, due to finances or other necessities? The stress likely would have continued and she may not have improved. But in that case, saying she's "keeping herself sick" IS victim blaming. Sometimes we're able to do the things that can help our health improve, but sometimes we can't, for a variety of reasons. That doesn't mean we're keeping ourselves sick. It means we're dealing with the things that can exacerbate our conditions the best we can. Words matter. "Keeping ourselves sick" is harmful and victim blaming.

    Ok- I understand the nuance between saying keeping yourself sick and the thoughts- so is it the video itself that is triggering you or the title? I can change the title if that is better- but what I say IN the video I feel is extremely important information. Every time I’ve shared this I’ve gotten so many people who tell me this was the missing key to feeling better. That they had tried diet, medicine, surgery, etc- but as soon as they heard this they saw that place in their life that they’re doing this and got better almost immediately. So I don’t want to rob people of this incredible realization for themselves. But how do I do it in a way that won’t cause you guys to think that I’m coming from a bad place? I do this with 100% good intentions trying to help people make that final leap towards feeling better that may be stuck!

    I never get attention ftom anyone.. when im up to bompany, i go out and none of those people know whats wrong with me. I dont like to talk about it, i dont rag on my doctor, i see him as little as pissibpe. I just font want yo live in it. When i have to, i sleep and dont eant company. ( Ovrrstimulation and hyper dtimulation whrre even a nice breeze on a hot day hurts. Smells , goosebumps, all ellicit a pain responce, so. Im alone ehen i ned, and ho out when i want to be around people. I walk in, get a drink dnd hit the dancefloor, im Around people, but not With them. Because when i sit still, pain over rodes dnd tgey sound like grown ups on chatlie brown. I was born like this, or st 18 months, had a "mono like" virus i was hospitalized for for a month. I have had pain ally oife, even great days. But i dont live there, My kids dont even know that the last three years, ive had a flare up from having had covid march 2020. Lol But im.goimgbtonsend ku docs these videos i found today, Yours snd a couple other thyroid , Physical Tgerapists, fibro specialists, docs should know all this. But when they get a new fibro patient, instead of keeping the reseatch fresh, they hive the parient my number. . And treat them like drug seekers. I got a "waitvand watch at my dppointment i had to wait three months for. And tests ordered, when i advicated for those tests three konths ago to do BEFORE i saw him. And.. after 16 yeats, he cant figure itbout and ordered a sleep study instead of a full thryoid panel. . And a pt order tonevaluatecand trEAt instead of DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE. . I DO MY PT EVERY DAY. i just cant do the deep tisue work on kyself in many locations. But every shower is 20 minutes of hitting every ligament.. since before diagnosis.. I was the first patient outside the stidy of fibromyalgia by Harvard aftervit was complete ten years. And first deemed unemployable by SS.
