The creek/crick answer is interesting because one of the least garbage people in my family was my grandfather, and out of nowhere when I was about 16 years old he broke out crick. Me and my cousin had no idea what he was talking about. I didn't hear it again until 15 years later when I got down south at my stepfather's house and his hillbilly family always uses it. My grandfather was born, raised and lived in north NJ, moved to central NJ as a senior. Only time he wasn't around NJ was the four years he served in WWII, so maybe that's where he picked it up. But I heard it once in my first 30+ years and it was from him. He also was the only person I knew who said the street name "route" like a driving route (rhymes with pout) instead of saying "root", like root 70

It is weird how that happens. My dad was the same. Perfect English & no accent but raised in the Bronx. We lived in central NJ. He pronounced H as hay-tch. Found out later it was all the Irish nuns when he was in school.
