Are You A Nihilist?

Ойын-сауық

For some, the meaning of life is the love we share with friends, family, and loved ones. Some others believe life's existence in itself makes it worth living. But for nihilists, life is meaningless. All actions, suffering, and emotions both good and bad, are entirely senseless and meaningless.

I am in a big depression lately and I cut myself off all religions and faith systems. I began to just stay in the nothing lane. No point, no meaning and no reason. I’m just done. There’s days I wish I can rewind time. But then there’s days I’d want to just leave, vanish, disappear into thin air. Living check to check, with a good heart, and never winning in life no matter how much I try makes me feel used, abused and thrown to the side. There’s days I wish I can have a car, afford a house and just have something for once but instead the evil people get it all while people with good hearts and hard working go through the worst. It’s like I take 2 steps ahead, I fall back 3 steps. If you’re reading this, I hope you’re happy and not in a dark place like me.

Lost my only child, my 24y/o son to an accidental cocaine/ fentanyl OD in 2020, lost my grandson in 2021 at 3y/o to drowning and just lost my husband of 30yrs to sudden death due to a combo of shit! The little family I spent so many years nurturing as best I could (not having any role models, I was winging it!) just GONE....so meaningless.... really makes ALOT of sense to me right now😮. Just tryin' to cheer you guys up a little, IT CAN ALWAYS GET WORSE, remember that.... always. Wishing you all the best of whatever you want in this journey of life! Take care guys!❤✌️❤

When I was going through a depressive period in my life, I had pretty much chosen nihilism as my coping measure. I saw no point in anything, and I continued to stay miserable. Then one day came; it's a funny story, but I remember seeing a starving street dog looking for food outside. There was a hen in front of him, moving around, but the dog made no move to harm and eat it. Eventually, he walked away hungrily. It was not a big, life-changing scene or anything, but it made me realize that because of a few problems in our lives, we can't just forsake ourselves. Ever since then, I've been trying to get better, and I'm actually doing great.

I may have published three of six in my series thus far, but I don't give a rat's arse if they mean anything to anyone else. I'm crafting my exemplary (and award-winning!) work for *ME*. If others enjoy it... great! If others loathe it... that's their prerogative as well, but I don't care; I've WORK to do. 💪😎✌️ 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨ "Before I start, I must see my end. I personally believe that “the meaning of life” is for each individual to figure out for themselves and there is no standardized answer that applies to everyone. The interesting thing is, since our subconscious takes place in our brain, it is a part of us. We don’t have control over it, that’s for sure, but making decisions from our subconscious is still our bodies making that decision in some sense. So one could argue that we are still making that decision, even if it’s not free will. Some scientists discover new things accidentally, and they still get recognized for that, even if it wasn’t their intention in the first place. Because they did something, accidental or not, that contributes to society. I’m new to all of those concepts, but i find it all really fascinating. If we didn’t dissociate our bodies from our identity, if we weren’t animals who evolved into an intellectual world, we wouldn’t be so attached to the concept of free will. This left me with so many more questions than answers and i love it

@@are_you_f_serious I respectfully disagree with that last statement. Life without any belief can be a life worth living because if you don't believe in anything, you gain a more objective perspective of reality which can lessen stress and anxiety, as well as provide a "whole" experience that you normally wouldn't get if you fill your mind with subjectivity. Think of it like a monk who has trained themselves to operate under a more objective view of the world (pure consciousness). That is sort of what you get if you were to live a life without any belief, which can be euphoric and thrilling, creating a sense of purpose and well-being. How is that not a life worth living? It sounds much better than being a prisoner of your own mind. Not knowing whether or not what you believe is true, but nevertheless is affecting your experience of reality. That, to me, is not a life worth living. I would much rather live a life of wisdom (knowing there is no truth) than a life filled with my own delusions (beliefs and bias).

"In a world without a God, we have to become Gods amongst ourselves, so we can truly ascend to a higher and functionally better state of being." Something I came up with recently that reminded me to some degree of something Nietzsche could have said, although I am not really a huge spokesperson for Nietzsche's thought processes. Anyway, self-optimization and striving to become better little by little over time is something that keeps me going, despite the realization that at the end of our days, we all gonna dance the dance with the grim reaper, no matter if you're a king or a street sweeper, and by doing so we will eventually return back to earth and lose our personhood. Still, for the time being, I will try my best to enjoy this ride and make my days count. Although admittedly, making my days truly count hasn't been a strong suit of mine in the past years, but my mindset is moving in that direction. Life is over so quickly, you get around 90 years tops for most healthy individuals, and puff, then it's gone. So I will always stay appreciative as long as I can derive some sort of enjoyment and personal meaning from living. :)

I would say this is akin to the idea that God is the ideal, that we should search to emulate. It's seen in Genesis, "God made Man in His image". We've been trying to figure out what that means for centuries. Some take it literally (Since Man looks like that, God must also look physically like man, like in the painting 'Adam's Creation'), while some take it metaphorically (God possesses the powers of creation and destruction, as do we. God possesses the ability of love and wrath, as do we. Etc.) And so, there is the idea that God is an ideal that we should seek to attain. If God is everything, it also includes everything *we* could be. It's extremely antropocentric and, dare I say, egotistical. However, it's difficult not to be overtaken with self-centeredness when so much of what characterizes mankind also characterizes gods. Including selfishness (implied or explicit). I think you would appreciate Carl Jung's ideas on the archetypes, and the archetypal structure of stories. I can make a quick introduction. Archetypes are the "ideal version of a given concept". Ideal, in this case, doesn't mean morally good. It means best. For example, one could say Cain is the archetype of the resentful murderer, while Jesus is the archetype of goodness. There's also the concept of wholeness, where you properly integrate the archetypes. There are a lot of fundamental archetypes within a person. For example, the persona, which is the mask we put on in social situations. It's not inherently bad, since it facilitates socialization and interactions, though it is a surface level representation of individual. There is also the shadow, which is that which is repressed. Childhood night terrors, unfounded dreams, traumas, untold desires (sex and violence, among others), etc. It is important to integrate the shadow to become a monster. A capable monster. But a controlled one. Someone who can control their shadow can do anything. You will see a lot of UFC fighters, such as GSP, who stay true to their character, and are kind, but harness their shadow in the ring to confront their fears and be capable regardless. Or NBA players, like Stephen Curry, who find motivation in insults and provocation, but stay controlled. There's also the Self, which is the entirety of your current realisation AND potential. There's a lot more depth, such as the interplay between all archetypes to achieve "wholeness", which we could represent with another archetype, that of "Jesus Christ". Carl Jung also mentions the "Image of God" often, in relation to humans. So perhaps that is also something that could interest you in your thinking.

That kind of reminds me of pantheism a little bit Which pantheism isn’t a religion (even though if someone asks you what you’re religion is you could answer Pantheism if you want since you think everyone and everything has divinity) but rather a philosophy that God is everything and everyone, because everyone and everything is God Since what you said here seems like a much more optimistic version of “God is dead and we killed him” and it seems more so like you’re wondering If Gods dead then what do we do now? What does that say about us as a species? Also as far as death goes death isn’t a moment it’s a process since we’re all slowly dying and each day is a bonus And once you’re dead you won’t even realize it happened, same as how when you were born you kind of just accepted it happened And that realization is why we’ve gone from the average lifespan being between 20-30 to 90+ years at this point So hopefully that helps you get over worry about death and make it easier for you to enjoy life I really hope you get to live an enjoyable life cause you seem like you have a big heart good luck

Right now I do not want to meet my great grandfather, or have him and others look down on me. It would be very comforting to believe that there is nothing after death and that everything was meaningless from the start. I can't and won't, though. I need to be better. My past mistakes and failures will only make my comeback greater.

I think the idea that life is meaningless makes life the most valuable thing. The idea that nothing we do really matters makes me think that it means we can do whatever we'd like with our lives. Sure, no one will remember you 100 years from now, but couldn't that be a good thing? If no one remembers me, that means I should be free to do what I want with my life (within reason).

Life simply is. As conscious beings we are the products our conscious thoughts. These in turn lead us to perceive who we think we are. It's an unconscious self-created prophesy. Who we think we are thus becomes who we are and physically experience. The key here is to ultimately realize that we are neither the product nor the individual creation. We are simply consciousness itself. The empty space where All exists. I, for one, believe in Love. I may not be able to see it, but I can feel it, sense it. Believing in what I sense I then go on to create it. Being capable of all things our highest and grandest physical creation is Love. It's the All in the All. Allowing for All things. Even allowing us to sink back into the nothingness itself...the human experience of a broken heart. So, what is life? Life is the physical experience of consciousness experiencing itself. Or as Shakespeare so eloquently and simply stated "to be or not to be".

I get why some of us have a tendency for nihilism. It's part of our intelligence to consider the possibility that nothing matters. And as depressed enough as I can be to tag along with this notion, we ought to know deep down that it's a fallacy. Nature is our driving force and it has reason and purpose to justify things that exist. Our skills as humans in society have just the same value as a tree has a role to play in the forest. The fact that some of us may be in such circumstances blinding us from recognising this is sad. But every person has a role to fulfil. Even the worst of us

Whatever purpose you set becomes your meaning. Lack of desires often result in this meaningless life but spiritually if you think about it, desires are what created both goodness and badness. Desires such as greed, envy, longing and etc brings war, crimes but also inventions, marriage and etc. The ultimate goal is not have any desires but only if you truly don't desire, not desiring something deep down but denying it. Still meaninglessness is not bad because that actually truly makes you live in the moment. You need not find meaning in this life but enjoy it as what it is.

And I think that’s beautiful. We do things not because of some greater sense of duty but because we can. I am not nice to my friends and love those I love for any reason other then I want to be. I will die, they will die, we will all die and it doesn’t matter. I just want to do what I can while I’m here because I can. There is no meaning or reason behind what I do but I’ll do it because I can. I have the free will to do that and I will use it to be happy and make others happy. Nothing matters so do what makes you happy and what makes those around you happy.

And this is result of western economy. Also we can't answer safely if there is or not a transcendent scope. By the understanding that if there isn't a deeper motivation, there isn't action. This is in charge even for a messiah. Motivation have many more forms than we believe. In the technique to balance the facts, the arguments and the evidence, libra lying to the side of meaningfully. The senseless of all the violence … that to me makes me lose hope and faith. I was also enlightened by stoicism (I love the dichotomy of control) I now think that although there is no meaning it is up to the individual to create meaning. I think that virtue is enough. Let me quote from my person writing: "I used to wrestle with the question: Does the lack of inherent meaning or purpose to life or the mere fact that there are no objective universal moral truths imply that there is no reason to lead a good, virtuous life, however subjective, according to one’s conscience? Now, I can only say, of course not! Objects in the external world have no meaning or purpose besides what the observer sees. Yet, despite having no inherent value, they exist all the same. Much the same is life, except, unlike the rock, we are our own observers and can give ourselves meaning and purpose. Regarding my other point, isn't it true that if one did not live per their conscience, their conscience would disrupt their inner tranquility? Indeed, this is true and is all the reason to live a virtuous life."

Whether you believe in a final judgment or in reincarnation or in no afterlife at all, you should make the best of this appearance on the stage of the universe. Many people are felt the nihilism in vulnerable moment, sad things happens to them or whether they get jealous on other people they find nihilism is the way to comfort them? Embrace sadness like embrace happy moments...like nolan said don't try to understand everything just experience it... questioning over everything ruin those moments so stop questioning and start living...maybe your parallel universe self is living your dream life think that way

If you look at everything from a negative perspective then of course life will be bad and you will be unhappy.
