Are we SLEEPING on Detroit Lions James Houston's potential?

Спорт

Jeff Iafrate, Booner, and Lukas Klotz discuss whether or not Detroit Lions fans are sleeping on James Houston's potential and if it's possible that Brad Holmes doesn't prioritize the defensive-line early in the draft because of it. What do you think of his ceiling with the Detroit Lions?

Back in early days of life I was given a number 20 Jersey with Sims on it. Fast forward a decade and I got another #20 with Lions. Some guy named Barry. That was the last Jersey I bought.....till December 2022. I custom ordered and got the original Jersey for Houston. Talk about electric, that man is not to be slept on. Was a little miffed about him switching numbers in off season, but I have the original. I am stoked on him, and so are the Lions. That being said, He is a depth hybrid player. He is NOT a D-Line starter. Wouldn't have it any other way. Can't wait to see him bounce back this year. Both things can be true, not one or the other.

Id love to see us get a quality WR early like a Legette,Polk,Pearsall,Coleman or Franklin, followed by an Edge like Kneeland or Braswell, then an OG like Mahogony or McCormick, then a safety like Trey Taylor, followed by an OG like McMahon ,then followed by another safety Vaki and finally an Edge in Gabriel Murphy

I think we forget too what does DJ Reeder do for the outside guys as well as the new DL coach. They are going to have to take a double team off of Hutch or give double up the inside guys to be disruptive. This will make the opposite side of hutch have less pressure to win their 1:1

They got not much from the Okwara's last year. They were both more cover edges, you know, and I see maybe a need in that area of the line. It'd be nice to loosen Hutch up to roam a bit at times. Houston helps with that on passing downs and we all hope Davenport does, too. I can see them wanting more from the draft

Last year, the 15th, 28th, and 31st selections in the first round were edge rushers. They put up 3, 3, and one-half sacks accordingly. I think these guys keep ignoring where Detroit is selecting. It would take extreme luck to draft a guy at 29 who would be a double digit sack man. Additionally, there is a lack of trust regarding coaching. I believe that Campbell's staff will develop the young talent that they select. Stop thinking that the shiny new thing is automatically better.

I think we need to chill and let Brad cook. I think we add either DRobinson or Kneeland in the draft. If I could, I would double down with both of them, because like Hutch, Drob can kick inside. If there is one thing we know about Brad is that we know Brad likes to double down in the draft. 👍🏾🎙👍🏾

Yes everybody is sleeping on James Houston. And no I do not think Aidan Hutchinson is going to get double-digit sacks this season. Not because he can't, but because it's too much talent on the defensive line. Especially if the Lions draft Bralen Trice. Before McNeill got hurt he was on pace to the door of double-digit Sacks. Pair that with our new Young DT, who potentially could pick up eight sacks in his own right. Now with James Houston in the outside linebacker position rolled down on the line, Sacks everywhere!!! Don't be surprised if Aidan Hutchinson only comes away with 7 to 8 sacks himself.

James Huston had 8 sacks in 2022 and was injured as Jeff pointed out in 2023 if you’re immediately thinking we need to draft positions of need . In the case of Brad Holmes is an incorrect assumption .its always best football player on the board and what I mean by that I those guys who are not only athletic freaks but can be moved around on the field like Brian branch jack Campbell Jaymer Gibbs Jameson Williams ect none of those guys have to be lineup in the same spot that have skill and athleticism to be lined up all the field as much as their position allows but all have be able to block and play physical football. Outside of quarterbacks if your not a physical football player that has versatility your not a Detroit lion
