Just got back from our RV family vacation to the Black Hills. We stayed in South Dakota for 5 Days(not enough time) We went non stop and saw Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse(did the face to face tour-highly recommend), Badlands NP, Wall Drug, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Hiked around Sylvan Lake, Mammoth Site and Deadwood!! Did not want to leave!!! Absolutely gorgeous there. We stayed at Mount Rushmore KOA at palmer gulch. Camp ground was big but we enjoyed our stay!!! We will definitely be back to SD one day without the kids😊

Thanks... Lawrence, your in luck with Mount Rushmore National Memorial being directly adjacent to Badlands NP along with the Black Hills NF, Devils Tower National Monument, Jewel Cave National Monument and Wind Cave NP. Along with tons of other sites and activities including Custer State Park that could be a national park itself. A definite bucket list destination. Natalie, like Badlands \Black Hills, Yellowstone NP is another epic bucket list destination with with multiple parks including Grand Tetons NP immediately adjacent (you drive from one directly into the other) and if you are that far north you might as well add Glacier NP. The northern CA, OR and WA is another great bucket list choice.

We left Florida June 1st and are working our way to Moab, Grand Tetons, Jackson, Wyoming and Yellowstone before working our way back thru Mt Rushmore, Badlands, Sturgis, then up thru the UP and Mackinac Island before heading back to Florida. Great topic this month! Hoping Jax is doing better.

But as you know our neck of the woods is also a must. Thanks for the shout out. Our Bucket list Items Drive the 101 from San Diego to Sunshine Coast north of Vancouver. New York State, Maine, New Hampshire etc. More of Tennessee and the Carolina’s. Maritime Provinces of Eastern Canada inc Newfoundland. Alaska via northern British Columbia. And lastly, we will be going back to New Zealand to finish off our adventures there because unfortunately we were there in March of 2020 and got locked down half way through our trip.

Interesting list. Your list is following our travels! Lol We attempted to get tickets for the Wave on two separate occasions. No Luck. Yellowstone is not commercialized, but it is very crowded. Go during the shoulder season. When we were there it felt like Disneyworld with the traffic and crowds. It is stunning, but hard to get over all of the crowds. The campgrounds on the National Park open for reservations one year out. Grand Teton is actually a nicer National Park to visit (only a few miles from Yellowstone). Your bucket list needs to include Utah's Mighty 5! Utah Rocks!

As for Yellowstone, yes lots of people. But it is just huge, larger than some eastern states. And other than the roads the park service does a good job of managing the crowds. Plus the is so much to see that the crowds are spread out quite a bit. We have spent a couple months there total over the last 5 years. Also it is close to the Grand Tetons. The Wave, there is a lottery system and you should be somewhat experienced in hiking in those redrock conditions, the trail is not marked and people do get lost commonly out there. Visit in Spring or Fall when it is cooler or even in Winter. The Badlands is one of our favorite parks, it is best visited slowly. Spend a week there. Most people just drive thru, but take your time. Spring is best, Fall may have Blizzards. We had to leave ahead of a Blizzard at the end of September a few years ago. Montana and Wyoming both have old prisons open for visitation. The Wyoming one house Butch Cassidy if you know who he was. Rush more was underwhelming for us but the surrounding Black Hills are good.
