Much more water towers, power generation facilities, prefab housing & updated waste management. Much faster & cheaper internet access is also needed for competitive businesses today. The government really needs a good list of priorities when it comes to spending tax payer's dollars.

THIS THIS THIS! Vanessa. Jeremy you are life! What he is saying is what I say to my peoples all day. Intially people look at me funny. Life is not about happiness. Its great to be happy but greater to be content. We learn from being under pressure, finding the ways to balance and to deal with pressure makes us stronger. What do we learn about our selves and each other if we are contantly blissful. He is so right about incubating Ghana and being mindful that we are not just trying to turn the influences of the west on to Ghana. We must hold our govenment accountable to ensure that Ghana is preserved and it doesn't become the UK or the US. We're leaving those places for a reason. The west taught us that what they have is civilisation but I would question that. This hunger for more more more. Consumerism, money. Take take take culture is the total opposite to what Africa and the brotherhood is and was ever about. We must must all strive and endevour to preserve the goodness and greatness of our continent. Holding family and community dear. The richest person that holds the highest monetary value that money helps, but it does not solve the woes and aches we think we long for. If you cannot find contentment where you are, you won't find it when you're rich either.

To be honest I am a bit worried about the year of return ideology cos we open our country to anything and everything without thinking through the consequences. We are also money hungry and that blinds us in our decision making. If we are not careful the diaspora will absorb us and not the other way around. I think Ghanaians who have left to build up other societies, where they are not appreciated, should be encouraged with packages and incentives to bring them back and of course the locals who are holding this place down should feel as important as the arrivals. My only issue with westerners moving back is that they (majority) move back with money. That already puts them at an advantage with the typical Ghanaian who's average monthly salary is 300 credis. It's great when they bring business w them but it's not great that they are paying locals a low income because that's the standard there. So what's the point of advantaged westerners moving back to Ghana? They will create an even larger gap between the rich and the poor and bring their privileged western mentality that has been ingrained in them to Ghana. Actual Ghanaians will still be economically disadvantaged. That I have a major issue with.

I absolutely agree with you, I think if we are going to bring wealth back to Ghana we should distribute it properly in the economy so that lower income people can benefit from the new money and get paid a better/higher wage. I've always said that if I ever do business in Ghana Id pay the locals a better price than what they're currently getting, otherwise the gap will never stop growing.

Finally there's a video with someone like Jeremy! I've been binging on videos of people moving to Ghana from Europe and the USA, and I felt that many had an exploitative undertone (Ghana = land of (business) opportunities)- what I am seeing is there is an emerging 'diaspora class' and (at least in Accra) we're starting to price the locals out i.e gentrification. I understand that the structures of society are set up in a way that many of us will continue to sustain a capitalist system but I'm really worried that in the long-term it will cause some harm. This is to say that we need to be more conscious about moving to Ghana and our impact as Jeremy expressed. Keep up with your videos Vanessa - they've been insightful :) Christina x

The population problem of Lagos has more to do with political impasse in Nigeria than what could have happened if other rural parts of Nigeria are focus on with some level of development. A lot of the negative things in Lagos or elsewhere in Nigeria are deliberate because a few in control of power and Huge resources are profiting from it.

Vanessa, well done and thank you for interviewing Jeremy Boateng! I enjoyed this so much! As a fellow African, I agree with everything he said! I love Ghana (and Africa) but I always feel that Ghana and Africa in general is vulnerable because most us can only 'see as far as the end of our noses'. We don't look at the pros and cons (for the future) enough, nor do we analyse things enough in order to understand them. We need to think about what is good for the future of people's health and what is good for the land as well as financial security. We never discuss the impact of things on the development of children. A lot of us are very materialistic and fashion conscious and seem to be only looking for material and financial gain.

Technology is not something to be feared. It’s that science and technology that will detect the problems (health, air, soil and water purity etc.) and solve them as well. Africa should learn from the mistakes of the west and implement ‘green’, renewable initiatives as a foundation, rather than as a fix to repair a damaged environment and an ailing population (as it is in the west). Also, not everyone can or should have to till soil to eat bread. Any thriving society will need contributors on all levels - teachers, doctors, engineers, journalists etc. If old school farming is your spiritual calling, more power to you - it is a healthy and noble pursuit. However, we can’t all be farmers.

Many things people enjoy today The creativity came from the creator. For example, the traffic light and innovative ways of agriculture, freezers, refrigerators, The list goes on and on. There is an African American brother who invented a machine that takes the moister from the air to create clean water. These inventions that come from our Heavenly Creator and Father to us. I saw one video which was about build homes and what shocked me that the chief said he don't want no traditional mud homes on his land only European built concrete home which goes against the land and nature.then with concrete you going to need air conditioning.im wanting to get land to build a modern mud house.i don't know Ghana at all so it's a bit scary.

I totally agree with Jeremy cos lately lands in Ghana are being sold ten Times to different people, and I feel like we have almost run out of lands already, it makes Ghanaian citizens who have lived there all thier lives loose what they have acquired over the years. It would have been better if these celebrities will adopt some of this kids from poor home to be educated in abroad and build a better Ghana in future.

That's an interesting, and unique way to put it. Today, technology and the speed of information, and communication has made it easy to live day to day, and work day to day. The high demand for new tech and faster info, and communication has made us lazy too. However, made people think critically, creatively, and innovatively. I agree with his concerns, but I will admit, technology is needed in many areas of Africa. For hospitals, education institutions, farming, security, and many other necessities that are essential to meet the demand of its people. New technology and faster info and communication is vital.

There’s a delicate balance between bringing destructive vs. constructive Western ideologies. I don’t think it’s leaving behind any ideas that can be categorized as western. There’s a lot Diasporans can contribute with the skills and concepts they’ve picked up-what is required is discernment and humility in knowing what is constructively applicable and what is not. He speaks of applying what he’s learnt in L.A. around perma-culture and mass farming techniques. Hydroponics and all those emerging agricultural trends can be considered Western, however are they good practices to introduce? I’d think so. A lot of times the disconnect is that people want to see Western outcomes (financial, societal, technological etc.) without thinking through the African/Ghanaian/Accra-relevant context, so they think blindly introducing certain Western things will get them the results they want. Not only are they wrong, it also ends up being destructive.

Smart young brother ... Ghana needs more people like you coming back to her bosom instead of those seeking to suckle it. The worst harm those in diaspora could do to that country is to turn it into another London or New York, which I'm afraid it has already happened to the housing market. Accra needs to remain authentic Ghanaian and a beacon for major African cities to emulate. Much respect !!

I think that, if people are trying to move back to Ghana need to have the mindset of much patience, commitment, care and love for they people and respect of culture there and the people already living there. Also with the mentality to also be a help to those who are there that do not have much. Contribute to the economy there and not be selfish. We can benefit from the move but us moving there should not take away from the people already but to add to it. Making it of benefit to those there and not taking away from those who are already there. So we should not bring our western ignorance onto a country that has much moral and values. We need no more stupidity. I think we can benefit from the nice values that the people have there and learn them and apply to ourselves. It could really benefit us and break the chains of bad morals and values.
