@@maameboa254 the West has lost its sense of connection and community, you have to work hard to create it. It is very isolating. In the USA the built physical environment also doesn't help because most neighborhoods developed along with the car and planning restrictions separated homes from shopping and work so they are just not walkable, unless you are in an older city you have to drive everywhere. That's when you get communities in "food deserts" where you are in the wealthiest country in the world but you have no easy access to fruit, vegetables and fresh protein. Really unhealthy. But the loneliness and social isolation is very obvious in the US. I think that's also part of the drug epidemic, people have noone to talk to and the healthcare system is set up where it is cheaper to give a patient drugs rather than talk therapy. I would be interested if Ghanaians feel less need for therapy too! Lovely to see a more human and humane society.

Oh wow! I’m blown away at seeing Bella, I had to do a double take. I’m 58, but I swear she looks just like me when I was her age. I showed my sister without saying a word and she immediately said she looks just like me. My sister said Bella looks more like she could be my sister than she does. It’s true! They say we all have a twin somewhere on the planet, looks like I found mine in Ghana!

Thanks for this. In Jamaica a "helper" is the norm for certain households. I would have no problem engaging staff to help me run my home. I respect no "employer" who feels it's the "thing" to abuse their staff there is no value in it.

I find it extremely sad when black people or any other race disrespects their Helper's, Home help, Support Worker's, Helper's need to be respected and properly trained to carry out their duties with competence, confidence, diligence, compliance, health and safety. All workers need to feel respected and valued. Without these special people many employees will be lost.
Ms. Vanessa, this was a very informative post. Ms. Bella being "woke" about her environment is truly a massive PLUS to Ghana and planet Earth! While listening to your interview, I became a little fixated on the references to the poverty conditions... During my scouting days, I was taught that no matter where you are, in order to live you must have SHELTER from the elements, Clean water to drink (EVERY DAY) and food to eat... I tell my children that an unshakable faith in The Creator before all those others will bridge the gaps which sometimes occur with those other three. We Americans tend to be arrogantly good at telling other people what would be better for them... In my pondering, I wonder would real help to our brothers and sisters in Ghana look like??? Years ago on a visit to a village in rural Zimbabwe, my father asked the Chief what one item he could use to improve the conditions for his people. The quick answer was a "bore hole" (well for clean water) At the time, the women and children walked several miles, each way to a river. The well made a real difference for the entire community.
We are all coming back!

When I went back to vacation in Togo, I realized that many places we went to had bad customer service. With a good customer service many of those places we visited could get more customer. This is was great. I remember growing up as a child we took out bowls to get street food and if you didn’t have a bow you get the food served in a leave. Going to the markets too people took baskets 🧺 and what you bought was wrapped in paper. Plastic was not a thing, we need to go back to those days. If you live in Ghana and you’re watching this interview please try to adopt these ways of sustainability as our ancestors have done all this while. The west is dying because of these things and now they’re trying to go back paper instead of plastic. It’s our job to take care of our environment, step by step the mentality will change. Thank you Nessa and Bella 🙏🏼

This interview made me want to cry. Its so beautiful. These women are speaking directly to my heart. Community and sustainability. I was beginning to question my desire to move to Ghana but no longer. If there is a community of people who feel this way in Ghana, I will be able to finally find a home.
Always good to get insight from people who have moved back. This allows people to think practically about what they are ready for and what adjustments they are willing to make. Everyone is coming from a different starting point. I was pleased that she was making an attempt to point out the different demographics. Everyone has exposure to different aspects of Ghanaian society when they are young. This can make a difference in approach.

🤯🤯🤯 OMGoshhh!!! I REALLY needed this and NOBODY has addressed what you both have!!! With plans to relocate all this have been on my mind! I had someone come to the US to "help" and I always thought I was open and kind. Needless to say it was a learning experience, we are so closed and controlling in the west and it is a huge put off to others. I had to learn the hard way that I needed just to let people help me!! That group effort is there but most of us here do not know how to let go of the controls. I need her contact Vanessa!!!!
Vanessa, thank you for introducing us to Nana. She is delightful and her house is amazing. You continually produce enriching content. Your passion for Africa is evident.

Good Interview. Show love
Very good interview covered several aspects of life in Ghana & her personal world - several times problems w/audio
This conversation really touched my heart as far as raising children and wanting to be in control of everything that happen in their lives overall. The young woman in black reminds me so much of myself when I was raising my children, although they are all grown now,I was ocd to assure that they were well grounded overall,HOWEVER their are many struggles that I now wish they had experienced in order to be able to appreciate things and not feel a sense of entitlement.GREAT VIDEO❤️ NEW SUBSCRIBER 👍🏽
