Are Video Games Getting Too Easy? Or Too Hard?

Ойындар

Hey guys it’s Tiller!
Today we’re tackling the topic of Video game difficulty OoooOOOhhh how spooky…
Anyways I think the whole discussion around difficulty and the “developers intended” difficulty is kind of weird. I mean if I’m given the option to play on Easy, then how is that not “intended”
Really unless a game explicitly states that a specific difficulty is the “intended way to play” I don’t believe there was ever an “intended” difficulty.
There’s the way you like to play and the way you don’t.
At the same time, if a game does not have optional difficulty, then it is the optimal way to play. And each hurdle was intentionally designed around that existing difficulty.
Regardless, from Pokemon to Elden Ring, I think the idea that freedom and choosing how to play, are essential components of difficulty in games today.
And I don’t think picking a difficulty because it’s the “way the game is meant to be played” means much more than: It’s the difficulty best suited for me.
But hey, I’m just one guy and this is just my opinion.
So if you have any thoughts about difficulty in games, you should leave a comment below.

The older I get, the more I look for easier games

When I have a lot of games to play and not a lot of time I want to focus more on clearing the story than worrying about if I have time to clear something. Sometimes I do want a challenge but it really depends on if I have time or the energy to deal with that.

I love a challenge but the biggest challenge in modern games is bad controls.

I prefer challenging games. The frustration makes me feel more emotionally invested into the game. I don't mind easy games, but I usually don't feel anything substantial long after I finish it.

It varies from game to game for me. If a game has a strong narrative, even if it was easy, I'll still feel it, but if its a more gameplay focused game, then I could see how a lack of difficulty can make it a struggle to stick.

I feel like they're getting lazy nowadays but difficulty could be different for everybody like Ancestors controls or DMCs complexity and I'd like to see more unique challenges tho
