The two headed eagle appears on many flags, including these three national flags. Serbia, Montenegro, and Albania. But where does this symbol come from and are they all the same bird on these flags?

Thanks for another great educational video, Tareth! We all have to know about the roots of events. I must confess that after the Chornobyl catastrophe of 1986, we, merry young guys, used to call the double-headed eagle "the Chornobyl Chicken" since it represented one of the anomalies that were caused by the nuclear accident...🙃

The Chornobyl Chicken, that’s a great term. Wish I’d known that beforehand I am sure I would have crowbarred that expression into this episode. Thanks as always.

@@FlagsinFocus I am afraid it would have sounded a bit too rude for the people living in those countries... I would have been banned from entering them, I'm sure 😰

Another interpretation of the two heads I have heard is that one symbolizes the church and the other symbolizes the state, but that kind of goes along with your mentioning of Imperial and spiritual power.

wait Serbia doesn't have a vertical version of their flag where the COA is turned so it looks good?

No because they decided to put it on the left, without any prior public discussion.

Shame really, I love a vertical flag when the COA or symbols are rotated. That said, there is evidence that the eagle has been rotated but there's nothing officially stating that it can be: www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/rs.html

I have a flag inquiry for you. Can you do the flag of the Stan region of Asia to understand I am trying to, but cannot seem to understand why the flag of Turkmenistan Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have woven runs on them in some shape or form.

You’re getting ahead of me. I’m currently planning a Kazakhstan video as we speak so watch this space for later this year. There is definitely a heritage aspect for both Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, hence their complex designs, but these hark back to past tribes and have deep meanings. Leave it with me.
