Are They The NEXT GREAT Group of 5 Team? (The Rise of USF Football)

Спорт

Back in 2007, USF found themselves ranked as high as number 2 in the nation in the AP Poll and was viewed as the next great football program in the state of Florida. They set record after record until it all came crashing down in the 2010s. Finally, the program looks to be on the right trajectory after a strong year one under head coach Alex Golesh. But how did we get here? This is the story of the rebirth of USF football.

Ok I’m about to say something unique about south Florida : their cheerleading team just won their 3rd and back to back to back college cheerleading championship in January of this year

USF has had 6 eras: 1997-2004: Origins and building the program 2005-2010: The "golden era" of the Bulls. Upset Auburn, FSU, Miami, #2 in the nation 2010-2014: Skip Holtz destroys the program 2015-2018: Willie Taggart and Quinton Flowers lead the resurrection; 2 straight 10-win seasons 2018-2022: Charlie Strong and Jeff Scott destroy the program 2023: Alex Golesh and Byrum Brown give us hope for the future

18 years as a season tix holder... The 2009 Bulls was LOADED. 9 NFLers. I wonder what would have happened if Leavitt stayed. Holtz didn't know how to recruit. He missed a Junior's Day Open House for recruits to play in charity golf event in Tahoe. Willie should have stayed another couple more years at USF as he was not ready for the bigger jobs. Strong went ROAD: Retired On Active Duty and coasted on the back of Flowers. Scott was in over his head. All he knows is 'The Clemson Way' Golesh is doing great. I didn't think he could so much in just 1 season. Future looks bright.

@@larryd9549 Good assessment of the coaches. It was so disappointing to see Taggert leave before his team fully bloomed. I blame him for the big decline and not achieving their 1st conference title.

I am a Oregon fan who recently moved a lil' south of Tampa. So, moved to USF territory. Didnt know much about the team. A great time for this video. Obviously not giving up on Oregon. But nothing wrong with rooting for your local team.

They were so much fun to watch during leavitt beating upsetting huge teams like fsu, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Miami. They're located in a hot recruiting bed to they can always stay competitive as long as they have a competent coach

I remember hanging around the campus in those prime Leavitt days and USF really seemed like the next big school in the state, not UCF. Hopefully Golesh can keep the momentum going because it's great to see the smaller schools in state doing well (Go Canes 🙌🏾)

I would say USF and UCF are not small schools. Enrollment is 50000 and both located in hot recruiting beds. They can always be competitive given the opportunity with the right coach.

He knows UCF is now power 5, I think he meant for the time when they both were G5. UCF is extremely popular and is in a great location in Orlando, with huge support not only from the students and administrators but also Orlando and across the nation. Due to their huge investments in creating a renowned athletic program.

I disagree a little bit with the narrator. Yes UCF is winning against us now, but we're not their punching bag. Most of those games have been competitive and could have easily gone the other way. I miss the WAR on I4 and I think most UCF fans miss it too.
