Man, Im 45 been skating since I was 5 and I remember we used to get our mates dad to lathe down our wheels to about a 38 to 40mm size haha, When Plan b video first came out he had the entire towns population of skaters asking for small wheels :).

Haha,, I did the same thing!! My dad made a jig for his drill press that held a skateboard wheel. As the drill spun, I would shape the wheel by holding a file to it and checking it with a caliper. It worked great!! However,, it really bums me out when I think about the things I could have now,,, like a solid gold skateboard, or a flying car,, and probably still have enough left over for my own Scrooge McDuck style swimming pool full of money!! Sigh,, only if I would have just kept all those 80s wheels! I would have crushed eBay!! Frown,, at least 3 pairs of first edition Cockroach Wheels were turned into 38s. Only to be flat spotted after 1 day. They go for around 1000$ now.

You're absolutely right about the skate park being a shared space. That said, if you ever find yourself in that situation again, just chat the kid up. "Hey man, care if I skate the hip with you? We can take turns." In my experience, the kid's hyped that one of the older guys is treating him like a friend. Tell him you're filming for youtube and he's really stoked!

OJ's makes a wheel called the Thunder Juice. its 75mm its my fav soft wheel. It rides dirt rocks, bottles, boulders, sand, anything in your way it will over come. I ride those wheels on a 10in Heroin Popsicle. U need a pair. if you were in socal bro, id give you a pair. funest wheel to skate A to B or go super fast on flat ground, just a amazing wheel.

@@nickhem12 Bones swiss, risers, as many as you need, im technically using the ojs big risers its like 3 1/8th risers in one.169 Indys. because the wheels stick out a half inch all together. and its more easy to ride without the Wheels sticking out. I tried 215s and they were to big. the perfect trucks would be the ace af1 77s I think. 9.5 width. its a mean machine bro. makes your skate super fast, and get comfortable at high speeds.

I think me, you, and Stumpy from Heroin all cant stop skating this 10.00in popsicle. we are all hooked

Now you gotta try those Snot wide boys! I like the long format sometimes. It's a good change of pace and nice to hear your thoughts in the moment. But I think your regular editing style is better for most videos. I don't think I'll always want to click on a 20+min video, but I always watch you regular length videos as soon as they come up.

Yeah having a low set up felt good actually! The way I was able to get such a quick pop off of the ground 👌🏽

One thing you have to try with small wheels is nose/tail to truck combos. Like noseslide to crook or tailslide to switch crook. You can do them as stalls on the quarter pipe too. Since the wheels are so low, you barely need to pop out of your nose or tail to get enough leverage to get it onto a truck. A personal favorite I learned is nosestall on a quarter pipe, then throw it into a crook and then keep going and bring it in like a nose pick. You can throw it into disaster and revert out if you want those bonus points too!

I actually thought that would be the case and tried to learn nose slide to crooks when I skated the 45mm Boardy Cakes and had no luck 😅 I like the sound of trying those tricks in a quarter pipe though! Thanks for the ideas 🙏🏽

Yeah dude, it’s much nicer to skate now! It was so slippery at first not just because it was a brand new polished ground but the council dumped a whole bunch of dirt on the skatepark when it was completed to stop people skating it before the landscaping was finished and the park was officially opened so once they opened it there was still so much loose dirt floating around which made it so slippery and dangerous! I had some Powell wheels back in 1992 called Arnaold Palmer’s, they were 42 mm. Back then I was dirt poor living hand to mouth, and my skateboard was my only means of transportation. Those wheels were also 101a. I can’t believe I managed to ride all over the city back then.

back in the early 90s you could buy a dozen 39mm wheels that literally came in an egg carton. 7.5" wide boards were the norm, plus pants that were stupidly huge

i'm still working on getting comfortable with slappy bs crooks, idk about ollies into them on a higher ledge. even in the early-mid '90s the smallest wheel i ever ordered was 44-45. i like 56-60 these days. even 52 is decent but i'd get a 56mm and ride it down to 52 or so rather than buy a new wheel at 52mm

My buddy had some type of spitfires in 38mm back in 93-94. I had 43mm Powell jelly balls on a new deal ron knigge slick deck with a rat on the bottom. That was my first complete.

Thank you man 🙏🏽 I’ve got a bit of a weird answer for you lol The wider boards have definitely made it way more comfortable to skate being a big guy but at the same time these wider egg boards still have a shorter wheelbase and length than I would like which ends up making me have to stand with my feet closer together so it’s a bit of a yes and no answer 😂 I love them though but I’m just trying to find similar egg boards with a wider wheelbase and length and that would be perfect 👌🏽

I wouldn't say keen, but now at 31 like yourself i'm getting back on a board after a 12 year hiatus so it's the finding what comfortable for me and not riding the same old setup I used to ride in 2008 just because that's what everyone else road. So playing around and relearning it all from scratch

i had some old spitfire wheels that i rode down the smaller than that, lol. it use to be kinda a trend to have the smallest wheels. we called them bearing condoms, lol.

I'm just about to buy new wheels so this was a good watch. I've been considering running two sets: something 56mm on the soft side for street/cruising, and 53mm hard wheels for polished concrete. My mate's hard 58mm feel so heavy, especially on a big deck. I like the idea of keeping the weight down with small wheels but they'd suck to ride anywhere other than polished concrete. I Also, you could try redrill a heroin deck. I've made some hectic custom wheel bases for decks by re-drilling

If you were asking for feedback on the long format I will share mine. I found there was a little too much talk between the action. I just wanted to watch you try the tricks on the little wheels and tell me after. And I couldn’t just skip the talking and watch the tricks because the spacing was too close to skim through it. Like I would try and skip forward to see the trick and end up missing it. I’m not even saying make your videos short but just give me more skating at once. I can tell what’s happening just by what your tricks are doing. I don’t need to hear about it every trick. Just my 2 cents. Hopefully you don’t take it personal.

y'all don't know that pain we went through in the mid 90's some companies sold wheels in sets of 6 you get 2 extras because with such small wheels flat spots were a daily occurrence. and I mean one side of the wheel was just flat. from one nose slide or hitting a rock . lol. I had some Guy Mariano 39mm blind wheels. once but I usually rode 42 mm wheels. at that time. and they felt huge.

The impact gets so much higher with small wheels. I think they look cool, but they are really bad for your knees.

Yeah dude, they might look cool but the negatives definitely outweigh the positives with wheels this size lol

maybe the smallest made but def not the smallest skated haha. I remember back in highschool my buddy made it his mission to skate through to his bearings, and he succeeded.

Someone seems to be at the age when its time to think about quit skateboarding, when you get scared off tricks on such small obsticles its time to start think if it still would be worth it.

The guy who made me a Skateboarder...when I first met him, skated "Bearing Covers." as they were called. I ended up doing a company with him we took world-wide. He could do four foot airs on a six foot half-pipe and ollie over tennis court nets. WHO SKATES A TEN INCH BOARD? I will never understand why the industry is pushing such massive widths right now.

As a kid I was used to huge boards, heavy, you really had to drag your foot well to lift it. Whan I tried a small H-Street Ron Allen mini, I ollied seven boards in a fee attempt, and I was used to ollie 4-5 ones, with my board

Back in the day if you skated bigger than 45mm you got made fun of and told to go to the vert ramp. I've skated wheels down to the bearings starting to show through. We did it in philly not cuz it was cool but cuz we was all poor AF!

I know I wanted 36mm and ended up with 43mm and was embarrassed about it on Christmas when my buddy came over with new 38mm. They made fun of them that they were huge. I actually ended up digging them and stuck with them.

@@LeonPaxton Haha yeah. I discovered them because I was looking for boardycakes drip drops in Europe. The only shop I could find was Penüs skateshop in Germany. They make their own small wheels as well.

Really stoked wider boards are more available (& better designed/proportioned than in the 90's); "bearing covers" & rolling slower always sucked for me. Tiny wheels is not a trend I'll re-investigate, anything smaller than 50mm is just foolish.

I remember low 30's and people say as low as 32, but I have a wheel I saved from then (not mine) and its about 23 or so (super worn out), so people rode em very small. If I remember correctly there were rare extreme cases of near-useless wheels, with only a few mm around the bearing being sold, maybe as a kind of joke, skaters being skaters.@@LeonPaxton

That is absolute insane man, you would have had to be skating on the Kat perfectly smooth ground for that to feel slightly normal lol It’s pretty cool to see the trends of skateboarding though and how much things change over the years
