Are there jobs in New Brunswick? [Watch BEFORE you move here!!]

Are there jobs in New Brunswick? Well...it's not exactly a black and white answer and a lot of it actually has to do with you and not the job market. This is not a one-size-fits-all video. This video is more about adjusting our mindsets to approach the job market in New Brunswick. The province is not exactly known for its low unemployment rates. But as you will see in the video. Stats don't always paint a perfect picture.

    I’m moving to Moncton late this year from Brazil to make a post-grad. My wife is a dentist and we both know we won’t be able to apply for high level jobs during our temporary stay. However, I see a possibility that NB jobs market may grow due to many Canadians moving to NB seeking for an affordable house and new immigration programs. All in all, I truly believe having one of the poorest provinces and the highest taxes of all Canada, doesn’t help the economy grow at high levels.

    This was a major eye opener for us when we moved here. We were on a wait list from December 2017 and only got a family doctor by fluke in January 2020. I have met people who have been on the list for longer. The premier has recently said he is working on getting everyone on the list off and with nurse practioners but they need to hire these people who just aren't here. It's alarming BUT there are some great doctors at the walk in clinics which are readily available, at least here in Saint John.

  • @billybob2229

    @billybob2229

    Hey! born and raised in NB. Not to scare anyone off but this is actually a massive issue in NB. I have been on a waitlist for a doctor as often as I have had one. Even when you get one, they can retire, leave the province, etc. The typical waitlist is 3 years long. And I have lost multiple doctors to them leaving the province and you end up right back on the list. The other issue is when you do not have a family doctor it is very hard to get treatment. If you go to the clinic you need to call as soon as the lines open and redial until you can be placed on hold and then wait until they can eventually get to your call - often to tell you they will not accept patients for those concerns and you have to go to the ER. But at the Er you are looking at a 5 hour minimum wait and they often ask why you did not go to the clinic instead. Again, not here to scare anyone. But this is a very very real reality in NB, and I do think it is important to consider. Especially if you or someone in your family has medical issues

  • @nikitashah7906

    @nikitashah7906

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@billybob2229 WOW that's really concerning! I don't have any medical issues that need constant attention (knock on wood) but I'm not sure if we'll be in Ontario or New Brunswick when my husband and I start having kids. I can't imagine going through a pregnancy without a family doctor or regular care. I get shots regularly and I feel like I might need to learn to give them to myself lol! It's insane that the state of health care is like that in New Brunswick when New Brunswickers pay higher taxes. And for what? Inaccessible health care? The government should give local doctors incentive to stay and give doctors from outside the province incentive to come. My husband and I are in a situation where if we stay in Ontario we're looking at $1M to own a townhouse or move to where he has family in NB and run the risk of not having health care when we need it.

    @@mariastamatakos3205 Thanks for your perspective Maria! When we plan on moving it will be to Fredericton where my husband has family. My brother-in-law sent a screenshot of his phone records - he called his clinic over 600 times and didn't get through! I'm not sure if clinics give preference to pregnant people and infants but it really has me thinking about in which province we're going to start our family.

    The answer will be different for every person. It's dependant on where you are and what your needs are at this current time in life! For a young family who works remote and loves the outdoors, it's really a no brainer. For a single person pursuing a career as a musician, Toronto is probably a much better idea.
