You had better get busy because the private banks are planing legislation to eliminate cash altogether. We would have no choice but to use debit cards and the banks would earn money on both sides of every transaction on the fucking planet..These banks are parasites..

It seems like you need some clarification on this subject matter. Why does everyone lose their minds when banking is explained to anyone. Stop it with the Jewish bankers. Jews don't have a monopoly right to issue promissary notes. Anybody can create money. Just look at all the crypto currencies out there. The key difference is that some tokens and liabilities are more widely accepted than others. Mostly the same thing applies to the US, even with reserve requirements. The key difference is that the Fed uses reserve requirements to make it easier to target the federal funds rate. The bank of England, Sweden and Norway don't use reserve requirements longer. (there are a few other countries that don't use reserve requirements.) Personally I think Sweden is the easiest central bank to understand. No reserve requirements to confuse the understanding of interest rates nor does the Swedish treasury hold an account at the central bank. "Reserve requirements create a stable demand for reserves. The Federal Reserve then adjusts the supply of reserves through open market operations to keep the level of the federal funds rate close to the target rate established by the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC)" - The Federal Reserve System Purposes & Functions 2016, page 41. The treasury's account at the central bank is an autonomous factor on the central bank's balance sheet. Transfers to and from this account will affect reserve balances in the banking system. Articles to read: www.norges-bank.no/en/Published/Publications/norways-financial-system/2017/ www.bankofengland.co.uk/quarterly-bulletin/2014/q1/money-creation-in-the-modern-economy www.norges-bank.no/en/Published/Papers/Economic-commentaries/2013/Economic-commentaries-92013/ Another recommendation is Marcia Stigum - Stigum's Money Market. It's a bit long but definitely worth it. It's more relevant to the US.

Mulder316 the federal reserve is not a federally owned bank, it is a privately held institution and should be held to all regulations and oversight every other private banking institution is held to. The USA is loaned money from the federal reserve with interest. This is a big part of the nations debt. Interest we owe to a privately held back that lends us our currency yet it has little to no oversight. What a ridiculous system!

Banks can still make loans. What's important is to take away their power to create money and also to create money debt free. It's quite simple. The central bank, who should be 100% under democratic control by the people, creates money and deposits into commercial Banks. Then they lend out these deposits at higher interest rate and collect the difference. Yes this would mean a potential money multiplier of 2x but that's okay. In addition governments should spend some created money directly into the economy. How much deposits/loans the banks gets from the central bank, how much is used to pay for infrastructure and gov wages and interest rates then become levers to make the economy stable, productive and work for everyone.

Now that will put some holes in their cheese , lots of holes not much cheese . Banks should be allowed to make as much money as they want , they just shouldn't have the right to take some-ones house or car when they can't pay it back . Take the risk cop the loss , in that way they would soon learn sound monetary policy .

Anybody can issue tokens and liabilities. It's just a matter of how to get them widely accepted. I'm curious as to how this will work.

I agree, positive money proposal is just the gold standard without the gold, and that never worked either. The problem is not private money creation per se, but what banks can lend to. As mentioned in the video, 2001-7 the exponential lending was to real estate, in fact most bank lending is to real estate. Lands supply is finite and housing market is bottlenecked, so as new supply cannot rise to meet demand, the more banks lend to land the more we have to bid up the price. Better lending standards can help, but a higher tax on land, and other economic rents would reduce this effect proportionally to the tax and mean banks would be forced to look for value from productive lending. A Chicago plan does nothing to change the ratio of return between productive and unproductive activities, so like the gold standard it will either result in longer more frequent recessions/depressions, or be so undermined by alternate lending and REIT's as to be impotent.

Also, while the 12 branches of the Fed are owned by their member banks, they can't sell the shares and they have to remit any profits to the treasury. Yes it's too independent, yes the board members should ALL be appointed by the govt instead of half, but to say the Fed owns our govt is silly. Besides, it was created as an act of congress in 1913.
