Simple. Any influencer who’s numbers are in question should just screenshot and share their subscriber count over time graph for the duration of their channel’s existence.

Short answer... yes. The subscribers vs. engagement ratio would indicate buying subs. There are no card shows would drive subscriber count materially higher. The number of subs and followers is the new social currency nowadays. Smoke and mirrors.

I enjoyed this video and your openness. I feel like that is a topic people want to hear more about, your channel's numbers your goals. I liked how you said 10% of your subs count the first 24 hours. I started following you back in 2020 with your buddy who bowed out of card content. It is amazing how consistent you are and the passion is obvious. I've watched on and off for the 4 years now. As a viewer I stopped watching as much a couple years back when you frontloaded all the info and ads. I hope you make a decent deal off that because I do think it could possibly hurt viewership. Maybe It's not my place to say or I could possibly be dead wrong and it only makes me turn it off, but I want you to succeed so it comes from a good place, genuinely.

Hey thanks man, appreciate the feedback. And you are right, I think heavy sponsorship probably turns some off and affects viewership negatively, but I’ve weighed the pros and cons and it’s still worth it when taking everything into account. I do try my best to strike a balance, and this whole YT thing is just one giant experiment. Enjoy your channel, keep it going!

Hello, I think we need to be careful when we say "buying subs". Buying subs is illegal, and youtube will terminate your channel, so I don't think anyone is buying subs. What I think is happening is that they are using the promotion feature that is within youtube to promote their videos in youtube studio. If so, there is absolutely nothing wrong with promoting your brand. These new subscribers subscribed because they must of enjoyed their content, and it's a good way to promote your channel under the youtube guidelines. No difference than a company promoting their brands, products, movies, etc... we are surrounded by advertisements, we live in a world of advertisements, and yet the sports card community seems to have a problem when one of them promotes its brand. I recommend sticking to what you do best and getting away from this toxic jealously that will only negatively impact all sports card channels, because real collectors which you seem to praise don't give a crap a out it. Sincerely, ODN1

It wouldn't surprise me if subs are being bought but are we accounting for appearances on other people's channels? Mojo was on Sports Cards Live a few weeks ago, for example, and is constantly doing content for Burbank Sports Cards.

I could see why there would be some speculations on content creators buying subs. But if you watch videos on buying subs its actually extremely expensive. To be buying that many subs in a month is probably gonna cost them over 1-2K. Im not saying its impossible just saying it be dumb. Cause bot subscribers don't translate to views. And buying views and subs can kill your channel, like I mentioned not out of the question just dumb if they did.

Nice shirt! Agree - I don't really ask for subs in my videos, but have noticed the sub rate has gone down a lot the last couple years. Maybe it's part of the "hobby system" correcting itself after the explosion during Covid times. 🤷‍♂ Some of those content creators you mentioned....something definitely doesn't add up with their 'looking from the outside' numbers.

Real question I’d love someone to answer… IF you like the content you’re watching… how does it affect anyone but well, Dustin, and having to “keep up with the Jones’s” as he calls it. It doesn’t matter to me if Dustin’s following is 100 subs or 1 million subs. Or his competition. If you’re enjoying what you’re watching then the numbers mean nothing to the viewer. We don’t get paid either way as your audience and I personally haven’t paid attention to numbers on social media since I was 16. IMO, only “influencers” or teenagers do that 🫡 🤷‍♂️
